Pondicherry University's new eco-friendly process of disposing of Date Palm obtains a patent. Emeritus Professor S.A. Abbasi & Associate Professor Tasneem Abbasi are the backbone of this new technology
New Delhi: The Pondicherry University has got patent for its eco-friendly process of disposing of date palm wastes completely. S.A. Abbasi, emeritus professor & Tasneem Abbasi, associate professor, Centre for Pollution Control and Environmental Engineering, Pondicherry University developed this process with the help of former doctoral students Pratiksha Patnaik & Tabassum Abbasi.
The newly developed process allows for the use of date palm waste to generate energy and fertilizers. This process does not require any chemicals and does not leave behind any residue.
The cultivation of date palms worldwide result in over 105 million tonnes of waste, and there are currently no commercially or environmentally viable technologies available to manage this waste. Consequently, date palm waste is a significant source of pollution and represents one of the largest streams of solid waste generated annually.
Pondicherry University's Acting Vice-Chancellor, Tharanikarasu, praised the inventors for their accomplishments, emphasizing the university’s dedication to innovative and sustainable research.
