NTA will remove optional questions in JEE Main 2025. Section B will have five mandatory questions per subject, returning to the pre-pandemic format. Candidates must prepare all topics.
A significant change was announced by the National Testing Agency in the Joint Entrance Examination pattern from 2025 sessions onwards, the agency reported in a public notice issued recently. The facility given to the candidates, where they have been enabled to choose the questions to be attempted from section B of each subject, will no longer be available and will be restored to the earlier structure.
This marks the end of a temporary measure introduced as an instrument for facing the stress of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. As per the new pattern, from JEE Main 2021 onwards, candidates were allowed to attempt only five out of ten questions in Section B, while after the WHO announced this year in May that the global public health emergency of COVID-19 was over, the NTA has now decided to go back to the original format of the exam.
Key Changes in JEE Main 2025:
- Section B of each subject will contain exactly five questions, all of which must be attempted by candidates.
- The new trend will be effective from Paper 1 (B.E./B. Tech), Paper 2A (B. Arch), and Paper 2B (B. Planning).
- In Section B, there will be no optional questionnaires or alternatives.
The NTA had categorized these changes as actually done to emulate the previous standards of taking the exam without the pandemic and for all the future examinations that should be conducted uniformly.
Impact on Candidates:
However, the candidates may have to alter their strategy of preparation since questions can't be avoided or chosen anymore. The candidates are further advised to visit the official NTA website and https://jeemain.nta.nic.in regularly for any subsequent update and detailed examination pattern, which shall be published in the Information Bulletin of JEE (Main) 2025.
This trend indicates the need for thorough knowledge of a subject, and thus, the candidate must focus equally on every topic in preparation for JEE Main 2025.
The decision by NTA is seen to be a return to pre-pandemic norms, and also, it is a reversion to traditional examination processes in general, as after the COVID-19 period, they can be resumed again.
