New Delhi: As per the latest updates, the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is launching a four-year undergraduate BSc-BEd course with a dual major beginning with the current academic year.
NIT Calicut will provide BSc-BEd (secondary level) with majors in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 Directives and following initiatives by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), according to Prasad Krishna, Director of NITC.
The NIT Calicut’s new program has received approval from the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP), which has been implemented in institutions including two Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and four National Institutes of Technologies (NITs).
The ITEP seeks to make a significant contribution to the sector's overall revitalization. According to Prasad Krishna, the future teachers who graduate from this program will work in a multidisciplinary setting, absorbing international norms, and they will help India's educational system modify its national education strategy.
According to Prof Krishna, all students who decide to pursue teaching as a career after secondary school are eligible for the four-year ITEP. They can choose their major in the first semester and finish their BSc degree in the first three years, according to S.M. Sameer, Dean (Academic), NIT Calicut.
As per the press release said on July 11, 203, the ITEP offered by the NIT Calicut helps students to complete BSc-BEd after their Plus Two or XII grade. Students will benefit from completing a dual-major undergraduate degree in four years as it will save one year of study time.
S.M. Sameer said the exit policy of NEP helps students exit with a UG degree in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics after three years. Students may apply for the program if they have completed their Plus Two in science.
According to Sunil Jacob John, the four-year ITEP coordinator at NITC, it has significantly advanced one of the NEP 2020's primary goals. He said, "The program will also cultivate teachers rooted in Indian values and traditions and meet the 21st century's global educational requirements."
The national-level entrance exam will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to the integrated program. Those who wish to apply for the program can visit the official exam website at nita.ac.in, ncet.samarth.ac.in or ncte.gov.in.
