New Delhi: The NCERT India is aiming to revise and refine the Social Sciences curriculum. Michel Danino will lead a 35-member committee under the National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC) and work on restructuring the Social Science curriculum for classes 6 to 12.

As per the notification from NCERT, the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) was unveiled in August. This framework is intended to serve as a reference for crafting the curriculum and textbooks used in school education throughout the nation.

Furthermore, curriculum area groups operating under NSTC will be responsible for devising subject-specific curriculum and developing teaching-learning materials (TLMs), encompassing textbooks among other resources.

More About the Committee Members and their Objectives

The 35-member committee includes notable names such as Sanjeev Sanyal, Banabina Brahma, MD Srinivas, and several others from different educational and research backgrounds.

In line with the NEP initiative, a curriculum area group specializing in Social Sciences, covering subjects such as History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, and Psychology, has been established. Initially, this group will develop teaching materials for teachers in three languages: Hindi, English, and Urdu, with plans for translation into other languages in the future.

NCERT aims at getting the first drafts of books, teacher teaching materials, workbooks, etc., by January 20 whereas, the final drafts are expected to be completed by February 10. NCERT also aims to deliver and prepare the 'Handbook' for the teachers by February 25.
