Despite Maharashtra having nearly 16,000 BSc nursing seats in over 200 colleges, more than 7,750 seats remain vacant.

MH Nursing CET Drops Nursing Percentile

The State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has announced a major change in the eligibility criteria for BSc Nursing courses. With approval from the Nursing Council of India, the Maharashtra government has decided to remove the minimum CET percentile requirement. This means that students who appeared for the MH Nursing CET can now apply for admission even if they scored 0 percentile in the entrance exam.

The change comes as a step to fill vacant seats in nursing colleges across the state and make it easier for students to pursue nursing courses. This move has been welcomed by students and college authorities alike, as it provides more opportunities for aspiring nurses to join the profession.

Earlier, candidates had to score at least 50 percentile in the CET exam along with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) in Class 12. But many seats were left vacant in nursing colleges because students could not meet the CET percentile requirement. To solve this problem, the government has relaxed the rule.

Now, the only requirement is that students must have 50% in PCB in Class 12. This change applies to the 2025-26 academic year. Over 7,750 BSc Nursing seats across more than 200 colleges in the state are expected to be filled after this update.

Students who could not apply earlier due to low CET scores can now register for nursing admissions online through the official CET Cell website. The last date for registration is October 5, 2025, and the final admission process will be completed by October 31, 2025.

The decision has been welcomed by nursing colleges and associations. Balasaheb Pawar, President of the Private Nursing Schools and Colleges Management Association, said this move will help fill vacant seats and meet the growing need for trained nurses. He also added that students with lower CET scores can still do well in nursing courses if they get proper guidance and practical training.

Experts say this step will increase the number of nursing professionals in the state. However, they also highlight the need for better infrastructure, skilled teachers, and training facilities to maintain the quality of nursing education.

Students interested in applying should visit the CET Cell website: cetcell.mahacet.org to complete the registration and check all the guidelines.
