Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, has opened applications for its full-time and part-time doctoral programmes for the academic year 2025. Online applications are being accepted through the official website, mgu.ac.in, by January 31, 2026.

The application portal will be active till January 31, 2026, up to 4:45 PM. Interested candidates belonging to the General Category must pay the application fee of INR 1,290, while SC and ST candidates must pay the application fee of INR 970.

The PhD programme at MG University, Kerala, is offered for 3 to 6 years, a full-time and part-time course. For the 2025 December admission cycle, the PhD programme will be provided in various disciplines: Arabic (SC–ST only), Biosciences (including Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Life Science, and Inter-disciplinary Sciences), Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Computer Science, Economics, Education, Electronics, English, and more.

Admission to the Doctoral programme will be based on an entrance test, MG University, Kerala, entrance examination, conducted by the institute, followed by a presentation, an interview, and viva voce. Applicants are required to hold a postgraduate degree with at least 55% marks, while candidates qualified in the entrance test UGC, CSIR, ICAR, ICSSR and ICMR examination/ GATE scores or have a fellowship from NET/GATE/GPAT/JEST/SLET, are exempted from the entrance exam.

Candidates must know that the selection will be based on the marks obtained for the Doctoral Interview and as per the available vacancy in each subject. Qualifying for the Doctoral Interview alone will not ensure admission for research; it needs a recommendation as 'Recommended' for admission by the Doctoral Committee. Doctoral Committees for all Disciplines shall be completed within three months from the date of publication of the notification.

1. Copy of photo identity card (Passport / PAN Card / Election ID).
2. Copy of the Transfer Certificate from the institution last studied.
3. Copy of the mark list and certificate of the qualifying examination.
4. Eligibility Certificate for candidates who have taken the qualifying degree from other universities.
5. Equivalency Certificate for candidates proposing to do research in a particular discipline, with a qualifying degree from other universities in a discipline not offered by this university.
6. Copy of the qualified exam.
7. Caste Certificate, Non-Creamy Layer Certificate, or EWS Certificate, as applicable to the respective category.
8. Copy of the Medical Certificate issued by the Medical Board in the case of differently-abled candidates.
9. Employment Certificate / No Objection Certificate / Undertaking from the employer (if working and applying for research in part-time mode).
10. Copies of the Research Proposal in the prescribed format (the research proposal shall not exceed five pages).
11. Copy of the result of the Entrance Test (downloaded from the university website in the case of candidates who have passed the Entrance Test).
