Jadavpur University appoints Prof. Bhaskar Gupta as the new Vice Chancellor. The appointment was made as per the recommendation of the state government. Read full details here!
New Delhi: Senior professor Bhaskar Gupta has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University. West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose has appointed the Vice-Chancellor on April 22, 2024, upon the recommendation of the State Government. The state Government has submitted a list of Vice Chancellors for six State Universities.
The West Bengal Education Minister, Bratya Basu, spoke on this appointment and expressed optimism about similar appointments in other universities. The Jadavpur University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) greeted the new Vice Chancellor.
Education Minister Basu said, "Prof Bhaskar Gupta has been appointed as the VC of Jadavpur University by the Honourable Chancellor. His name was recommended as the VC of the same university by the Higher Education department with the approval of the Hon'ble Chief Minister."
In August 2023, the Governor appointed Prof Buddhadev Sau as Interim VC of JU. However, in December of that year, the Governor removed him from the position. Education Minister Bratya Basu expressed happiness about the news on X handle. Basu mentioned, "Good sense has prevailed" regarding the development.
Basu stated that the Higher Education department recommended Prof Gupta's appointment, with approval from the Hon’ble Chief Minister. In another post on X, the minister expressed hope for similar appointments of VCs in other universities, following the state government's recommendations.
