ISB Launches Upgraded Version of India Data Portal 2.0

New Delhi: The Bharti Institute of Public Policy (BIPP) of Indian School of Business (ISB) has recently launched the fully revamped India Data Portal (IDP) 2.0. The portal is designed to promote evidence-based policymaking in India through an open-source ecosystem.

The launch event of IDP 2.0 included a panel discussion titled "Evolution of Open Data: Impact, Challenges, and Future Directions," in which subject specialists expressed their ideas and insights on the subject. Professor Ashwini Chhatre, Executive Director of the Bharti Institute of Public Policy, moderated the discussion.

Informing about this initiative, ISB officials shared that the India Data Portal (IDP) 2.0 was created with the goal to better equip journalists, researchers, students, policymakers, and other stakeholders with the ability to access, interact and visualise information, data and knowledge.

The key highlight of IDP 2.0 includes a feature that allows users to contribute their datasets while maintaining privacy for their own research and visualisation efforts. The portal has received technical upgrades, including scalable and readily maintainable architecture, which is supported by a network of microservices.

Speaking on this occasion, Professor Ashwini Chhatre, Executive Director of BIPP, ISB said, “The contours of the open data landscape have evolved and transformed over time. The readability of data has become easier than before, as we see a departure from non-machine-readable formats to computer vision and image analysis, which are more amenable”.

“Government alone cannot be the harbinger of change in the open data landscape; the growth of new technology would act as a potential solution to reconcile the demand and supply side. These initiatives, led by individuals with extensive domain expertise, aim to simplify and broaden the accessibility of government data for the benefit of all”, he added.
