India's First National Sports University to be Set Up in Manipur; Check Details Here

New Delhi: India's commitment to nurturing sports talent and promoting a culture of physical fitness, the northeastern state of Manipur is set to house the country's first-ever sports university. On August 3, Union Minister Anurag Thakur informed that India's first-ever national-level sports university has been allocated to Manipur.

The University will be built at a cost of INR 643.34 crore. Minister has mentioned that the previous government had a 'Look East Policy' but the current Narendra Modi government has adopted an 'Act East Policy' where special emphasis has been given to sports infrastructure in the Northeast region.

Minister has mentioned to a Parliament question on Sports Infrastructure Facilities in North East Region “ with the shift from 'Look East Policy' to 'Act East Policy,' the Government has given special emphasis and impetus to sports infrastructure in the North-east region,"

He added that the first-ever national Sports University of the country will be built in the northeast state of Manipur with a total sanctioned cost of Rs.643.34 crore.

Two Khelo India centers were already established in the North Eastern States, to flourish and nurture the sports talents.

Demonstrating this dedication, two Khelo India centers are being set up in every district of the Northeast, effectively enhancing the sports environment and inspiring young athletes to chase their aspirations.

Going beyond that, the government is presently engaged in 75 projects focused on sporting endeavours, with a remarkable value of 520 crore rupees, aimed at elevating sports infrastructure in the North East region.
