IIT Madras Launches AI-Powered English Learning Platform for Students

New Delhi: The Central Library of IIT Madras has launched an online AI-based English learning platform "LANQUILL'' to help students improve their communication skills. The platform will have sessions on Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing and Grammar.

As per IIT Madras, the AI-inspired LANQUILL platform will provide access to more than 500 hours of lessons, including self-paced tutorials and multimedia content, which will help students enhance their comprehension of English grammar through their mother language.

To access the learning platform, students have to fill out a Google Doc form stating their interest, which will allow the Librarian to issue an ID for them. The link will be available on the official website of IIT Madras, 'BeHappy initiative' at behappy.iitm.ac.in/communication-skills.html.

Certification Courses Offered by IIT Madras Lanquill English Learning Platform

Interested students who wish to learn the English language can access the English learning tool of IIT Madras and choose from 7-level certification courses, which are: 

• Grammar Assessment - Foundation-level Topics
• Vocabulary Assessment – Higher Elementary level
• Listening Skill Assessment
• Reading Skill Assessment
• Speaking Skill Assessment
• Writing Skill Assessment
• Adaptive Assessments

Informing about this initiative, IIT Madras said, “Communication in English is important for all, be it technical paper writing, quizzes, semester exams, internship interviews, project reports, placement interviews and general interaction with peers. The AI-inspired LANQUILL tool is suitable for all levels of learners”.

“It helps students to express ideas clearly in an academic and professional format. And real-time speech analyzer helps improve your accent and pronunciation and also grammar checker to help explore all aspects of your writing, including sentence structure, sentence length, writing style, punctuation, voice, and much more”.
