IIT Bhubaneswar has introduced the AI and HPC Research Center (AHRC), which aims to drive innovation through interdisciplinary collaboration, focusing on the realms of artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC).

New Delhi: IIT Bhubaneswar has inaugurated a new center on its campus, known as the AI and HPC Research Center (AHRC), to facilitate interdisciplinary and collaborative research in the domains of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC).
The IIT Bhubaneswar has designed the AHRC as a national research center, involving prominent academic, industry, and government research entities both nationally and internationally. This collaborative effort aims to address real-world challenges across various domains through research, innovation, and the practical application of artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC), the official sources revealed.
According to the IIT Bhubaneswar statement, the AHRC's primary research and innovation focus lies in the application of AI and HPC in areas directly impacting society. These include but are not limited to fields such as medicine, the environment, agriculture, sustainable communities, cybersecurity, and smart city.
The Chairman of the AHRC Board, Shreepad Karmalkar, who also serves as the Director of IIT Bhubaneswar Faculty, highlighted that the institute is hosting a unique national research center. This initiative aims to offer a global platform to researchers, not only from the state but also from across India, facilitating cutting-edge research and innovation in the crucial field of AI and HPC, addressing the current imperative needs.
Ashwini Nanda, the Director of AHRC, outlined the center's objective to bring global expertise to benefit the people of India. The overarching goal is not only to have a significant technological impact globally but also to contribute to the global community through the center's world-class research initiatives.
Subhranshu Ranjan Samantaray, Associate Centre Director of AHRC, mentioned that the institute initiated this center using its internal resources. He expressed the intention to submit significant project proposals to both the government and corporate entities, aiming to secure funding for ongoing research endeavors.
Highlighting the inspiration drawn from an advanced AI laboratory in the USA, Samantaray stated that they are committed to transforming it into a model center that can set benchmarks for others across the country.
In addition to its international partnerships, AHRC is engaged in collaborations with domestic institutions such as AIIMS, other IITs, universities in Odisha, and the Odisha government.
As per official sources, the center's scientists are actively involved in the development of AI tools for diagnosing various diseases and conducting rapid screenings for life-threatening conditions in rural communities in Odisha. This collaborative effort includes scientists from AIIMS Bhubaneswar and the State University of New York in the United States.
