The IIM Sirmaur is set to start a dedicated research center for healthcare management at the institute by November 2023. The institute is currently in a discussion with AIIMS Bilaspur to collaborate for hands-on training of students.

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur (IIM Sirmaur) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bilaspur (AIIMS Bilaspur) have joined hands to establish a center for healthcare management. The research center will be opened by November 2023.
According to IIM Sirmaur Director Prafulla Agnihotri, “We had a meeting with the board on August 22 where a proposal to set up a Centre for Healthcare Management and Innovation (CHMI) was approved. It will be funded by some of the pharmaceutical companies located close to our campus. It will also offer specialized courses, too.”
The institute is currently in a discussion with AIIMS Bilaspur to collaborate for hands-on training of students. In collaboration, IIM will offer a week-long healthcare executive management development program (MDP).
According to Kiran Kumar Paidipati, an IIM professor who will co-chair the center with two other faculty members, “The proposed collaboration aims to work together to offer programs for incubation and ideation centers, start-ups, and centers of excellence to promote entrepreneurship and innovation. With expert faculty members from IIM Sirmaur and the healthcare professionals from AIIMS, Bilaspur, we look forward to facilitating the exchange of experiences and opinions for mutual benefit and implementing joint social initiatives.”
Agnihotri has highlighted that the centre will deeply focus on healthcare research and consulting. It will broadly focus on healthcare management. The centre will work to reduce the scarcity of healthcare research in India in the Indian context from a management perspective. “My interaction with stakeholders shows that this industry requires professionals. Students from our region have to travel all the way to Mumbai and other places to get this experience and education. If we are able to provide it here locally, it will benefit not just the students but also small hospitals in the area,” he added.

Some of the research that will conducted are immunity and nutrition, correlation, outcomes, tuberculosis and nutrition coexistence and rehabilitation and vitamin deficiencies and after-effects.
In addition to research activities, the center will provide Management Development Programs (MDPs) and long-duration programs (LDPs) focused on healthcare management and hospital administration. Furthermore, certificate programs, including healthcare analytics, healthcare operations, and hospital administration, will be introduced in the near future. Regarding funding collaboration, Agnihotri mentioned that local industry partners have expressed their interest in supporting the establishment of the center. The institute currently hosts a center for sustainability and environmental management.
