IIM Lucknow Research Highlights Impact of Major AgTech Platforms in Digitalising Indian Agriculture

New Delhi: IIM Lucknow recently published path-breaking research on the digitization of the Indian farming and agriculture industries. The research was conducted by Professor Sanjeev Kapoor from the Centre for Food and Agribusiness Management at IIM Lucknow, and Professor Neeraj Singh from the Marketing and Strategy Area at IIM Rohtak

The research done by IIM Lucknow studied four Indian AgTech platforms and discussed their networks, workings, and impact on Indian agriculture. The platforms that were observed for the study were Dehaat, Samunnati Agrielevate, IFFCO Bazar, and KRIBHCO-CSC-eGov. The research was also published in the journal ‘Technology Analysis & Strategic Management.’

Key Findings of IIM Lucknow and IIM Rohtak Joint Research

Informing about the research findings, Professor Sanjeev Kapoor said, “This study is the first to discuss partners for AgTech platforms. It investigates partners in both privately and collaboratively marketed AgTech platforms using a unique case research methodology”.

“This study is relevant to the development of digital agribusiness strategies because of the rise of the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and other democratic digital markets in the agricultural space. Practitioners and policymakers can utilize the emerging AgTech Value Proposition Canvas (AVPC) framework as an exercise to build and establish platforms for rural markets”, he further added.

IIM Rohtak Professor Neeraj Singh also highlighted the need for stakeholders in academia and management to study AgTech platforms. Studying the practical management of AgTech platforms could lead to the creation of more AgTech platforms and help bridge the gap between agriculture and technology, he added.
