IIT Madras will conduct GATE 2027 with a new Robotics and Automation paper coded RA. This takes the total to 30 test papers. Registration opens on August 14, 2026 and the exam runs from February 6 to 21, 2027.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has introduced a new Robotics and Automation (RA) test paper for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027. The announcement was made on the official portal at gate2027.iitm.ac.in. With this addition, the total number of GATE 2027 test papers has risen to 30.
IIT Madras is the organising institute for GATE 2027. The exam is conducted jointly by IISc and the IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board. The updated syllabus for the RA paper is available on the official exam papers and syllabus page.
Alongside the new RA paper, the Textile Engineering and Fibre Science (TF) paper has been modified. The sectional codes XE, XH, and XL have also been revised. Candidates are advised to review the updated syllabi before applying.

How to Apply for GATE 2027?
Registration for GATE 2027 opens on August 14, 2026 on the official portal. Candidates can select the RA paper or any of the other 29 papers as their primary choice. GATE allows a candidate to appear in a single paper or in two papers from approved combinations.
