Capt. Ranjan Kumar is the Marketing Head of the International Maritime Business Academy. He has broad-based experience of 20+ years in Shipping, Logistics Ports, and Supply Chain. He did Ship Master’s Competency (HND) Exam from Fleetwood Nautical College, Fleetwood, Blackpool, Lancashire, U.K – 2001 and did Hazmat Course from Mitsui OSK Lines Training Institute, Mumbai, India.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

Our aim as an organization is to provide global standard quality education to our students. The joy that I find in creating a happy and healthy learning environment for my students has always inspired me to stay connected to the education sector. We at International Maritime Business Academy look at commercial shipping, away from merchant navy or other sailing jobs. Our institution is a solo institution in India providing similar courses in the field.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your style?

Flexible leadership is what I personally believe in. I strongly believe that dealing with a younger generation requires a lot of flexibility and open-mindedness. This quality not only allows us as leaders and educators to teach others but also to learn a lot of things ourselves. As we grow up we become rigid about a lot of things and form our own rules and regulations, which eventually are disrupted. Therefore, here at International Maritime Business Academy, we have made sure to create an environment, where the staff and the management would lead the students with utmost flexibility while maintaining the decorum of the institution.

How does the curriculum of International Maritime Business Academy ensure the best practice of industry?

The curriculum and pedagogy of the courses are closely designed by very experienced people from the field and all the necessary knowledge that is required by a professional is compiled carefully in the curriculum. At International Maritime Business Academy, we are determined to shape our students more professionally and specialized in the industry. We do not believe in flooding the market with half-cooked candidates. We have made sure to take any kind of extra effort required to build the skills of our students to fit properly with the industry and market standards.

Any insights into how your college could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

Our college has been very welcoming to students from all over. Since the courses that we offer are very unique and are not easily available to the students, we do already have a number of students from various backgrounds. The placements that we offer and the kind of growth a student can feel during their educational journey at the campus promote students from all backgrounds and races to be here as a part of the IMBA family. Students bring here a lot of experiences and diversity which gives an opportunity to all students to learn from their peers.

What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next 10 years?

Our greatest strength is the course diversity and the increasing demand of the industry. Therefore, our top priority will be maintaining the curriculum standards and the 100% placement statistics. The management ideology has always been to upgrade and upskill. Whether it is the curriculum or the staff. Our priority would be to maintain these standards and keep providing our students with the best opportunities to brighten their future.
