Prof. Dr. Naresh Kumar Granarashimaiah is the Professor and Dean at Vivekananda Institute of Management. He did his Ph.D. from Acharya Nagarjuna University. He has a total of 19 years of academic experience. How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty members?
A healthy relationship with students and fellow faculties is the result of trustworthiness, listening to them, enquiring about problems, and extending possible support. We should respect boundaries, celebrate moments, be realistic, and need to branch out.
How do you try to bring a practical approach to the subject and make it industry-oriented?
Nowadays specific skills among applicants who can join their respective teams with minimum additional effort and investment from the team or the firm. Though it’s a challenge to scale and standardize, the way out is clear, therefore institutions on the one hand, and practitioners and industry leaders on the other need to inculcate this collaborative spirit and work ethic to move business education forward.
What are the best practices offered by the department to students that help them gain the necessary skills?
Enhanced onboarding, robust campus experience, proactive advising, early exposure to career planning, promoting experimental learning activities, enhanced student support services, fostering success-oriented mindset, and a sense of belonging helps them to gain necessary skills.
How do you strategic the curriculum and how often does it get updated to make it befitting for the students?
Since the market is dynamic and needs continuous updating, a management program should be research-driven and stakeholder-driven initiatives—which have led to new course modules, elective courses, and programs.
What are your views on the placement and higher education of the students from your department or how does your department prepare your students for higher education?
Placements offer students a quick start on their careers. It allows them to grab more opportunities in life and set their right foot forward in the huge market of working life.

How do you help your students to cope with the competition so high on the outside world?
Helping the students to benchmark themselves with the standards and not with peers by a holistic approach and take risks by stepping out and always in learning mode to stand firmly in the competition.

We make sure our students solve real-world case studies to sharpen their skills.
