Mr. Saurabh Mittal is the Head of the Department of Commerce at the Astral Institute of Technology and Research. After completing his B.Com. in Taxation, he earned his M.Com. in Marketing from P.M.B. Gujarati Commerce College. Thereafter, he finished his Diploma in Elementary Education degree as well. Besides his present employment, Mr. Mittal has worked at Maharishi Vidhya Mandir Public School, Indore, Children’s Academy School and Devi Ahilya Arts and Commerce College.

What is your experience in the education industry? 

In regard to my experience in the education industry, I have been working as an educator for the past 15 years, serving as a professor in this field. Specifically, I have been working at this college for the past year. I am genuinely pleased and fulfilled to be an educator and I aspire to continue in this role for as long as possible.

What are your roles and responsibilities? 

My roles and responsibilities at this college mainly involve teaching commerce and management students. Many students believe that there are limited options available for them after graduation and post-graduation. However, new roles and models are emerging in this field. I aim to prepare our students for these evolving opportunities. While some students are knowledgeable about the banking sector, I believe it's important to expand their understanding of other domains in commerce and management. I want to ensure that students are aware of the various career paths available to them beyond banking. Teaching is not just about imparting knowledge; it also involves guiding students in their career choices. Therefore, I aim to provide career guidance from the beginning of their college journey so that they are well-prepared for their future endeavours.

What are the growth opportunities available for students in your institute? 

We have a dedicated placement officer to oversee growth opportunities. Right from the first year of admission, we provide students with comprehensive guidance on where and how to pursue opportunities alongside their studies. The key aspect is offering placement opportunities throughout their academic journey, starting from the first year until their final year. We prepare them through mock interviews and continuous support so that by the time they reach their final year, they are well-equipped to pursue their career goals without facing any hurdles.

What is the top priority of your college in the upcoming years? 

In the upcoming years, our top priority will be focusing on delivering quality education and ensuring quality output from our students. Alongside providing quality education, we are also attentive to any new challenges students may encounter. We aim to identify and address these challenges, particularly regarding the lack of platforms for skill development and showcasing talents. Our institute recognises the need for additional platforms and opportunities, and we are committed to expanding them in the future. Thus, in parallel with education quality, we prioritise working on students' placements right from the outset.

According to you what is the role of a good leader?

From my perspective, the role of a good leader involves understanding each student individually. In the classroom, it's essential not only to focus on the group as a whole but also to engage with students individually to understand their unique challenges and concerns. Addressing these individual needs is the fundamental responsibility of any leader.

Any suggestions you want to provide to the students and aspiring youth?

I want to emphasise the importance of hard work for all students. Every student's dedication and hard work pave the way for success. It's a key component of achieving one's goals. Furthermore, if students encounter any challenges along their educational journey, the institute is committed to supporting them even after their completion of education.
