Dr. Bhagyashree Jogdeo is the Principal at Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune. She has a Ph.D. in Nursing and a Post Graduation in Child Health Nursing. She has been a research guide for students since 2013 and has published over 30 papers in National and International Journals. Being the Principal of Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune what is your leadership philosophy? How would you describe your role?

It is about sharing power and leadership to empower others to be their best. Highly effective college leaders see the strengths in the people around them and create opportunities for those strengths to flourish. My role at Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing is to make this nursing college a centre of excellence for imparting nursing education In India. For students, my role is to provide all facilities to them to get quality nursing education and to help them to become a good human being.


Being the Principal of Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune how do you plans for the marketing and administration of your college?

For marketing, our students and alumni are the best ambassadors for Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing. Our college is the first Private Nursing College in the state of Maharashtra. We are known for the quality education and our outgoing students are placed across the globe in field of Nursing. We do create awareness among the schools, colleges and Community regarding Nursing courses and its current and future scope in the healthcare industry global acceptance with national coordination is what we look at.


When you first came to Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune what was your vision for the college? Has it evolved, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

I initially joined Bharati Vidyapeeth as a staff Nurse in Bharati Hospital and Research Centre and later as faculty in Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune. We worked in line with the vision of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Pune and still working as Principal on the same plane. We have implemented the vision by large for the society by contributing towards their promotion of health & Prevention of illness. As a Principal of Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune I always try to make college a world class through dynamic programmes, innovative practices and research.

What would you like people to know about your college they may not know?

There are few things that people should know and these are that Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune is a Constituent unit of Multidisciplinary University, Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) and At Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune we provide excellent clinical competency exposure, National trust & NGO scholarships. We also have a library with an excellent collection of books and beside this student also get a chance to be a part of an international student exchange program where we are in collaboration with Malardalens University, Sweden & University of South-Eastern, Norway.


What do you see as Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune’s greatest strengths?

Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune is Constituent unit of NAAC A+ accredited Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Pune. College offers all the courses from GNM to PhD in Nursing and having state of art Multi specialty Bharati Hospital and Research centre, Urban and Rural Health training centre for students’ clinical exposure. Along with this a team of dedicated faculty who performs the entire task efficiently and effectively. The other highlighting factor of our college is our alumni recognized all over the globe for their knowledge, skill & attitude towards patient care.


What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune specifically?

Some of the biggest challenges which we came across at Bharati Vidyapeeth College Of Nursing is getting an admission in advanced nursing courses like PBBSC Nursing and M.Sc. Nursing Course. Majority of the students prefer to go for a job either in the Government sector or abroad after completion of their UG course. Other contributing factors for less admission to the nursing courses are mushrooming of colleges in India. Other contributing factors for less admission to the above mentioned courses are mushrooming of colleges in the state as well as across India.


How do you involve nursing students in community outreach programs and volunteer activities to develop their leadership and social responsibility skills and suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students who would like to make a career in Nursing?

At Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing we engage our students in various activities of National Service Scheme and Community outreach activities in terms of House-to-house health survey, Identification of Illness, Provide Basic Treatment, Health awareness activities health camps and participation in all National Health programs, which in turn helps in developing their leadership and social responsibility skills. Nursing is profession of Pride and all the aspiring students should come forward to join this noble profession where they can grow high both in their professional and personal life with satisfaction.


Can you share some success stories of your nursing college alumni and how have they contributed to the nursing profession?

Our alumni from Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune are placed across India and Globe in the field of nursing. They are doing comprehensive well in the field provide patient care as well as creating a next generation of nurses with moral values and scientific commitments. They also contribute to the nursing profession by becoming examiners, resource persons to various scientific sessions, researchers, teachers, mentors, and leaders to lift the nursing profession from local to global level and have advanced knowledge in the field of nursing.


What are your future goals and aspirations for the nursing college, and how do Do you plan to achieve them?

My future goals and aspiration of the Nursing College is to make this nursing college as centre of excellence and make available quality education in different areas of knowledge in the nursing field to the students. This can be achieved to bring more collaboration with national and international institutes, implementing the curriculum based on The National Education Policy guideline, involvement of technology in imparting learning experiences to the students and by providing global opportunities to our students in the field of nursing and related career of nursing.


Can you discuss any ongoing collaborations or partnerships with other educational institutions or healthcare facilities that benefit Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing, Pune?

At Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Nursing we are in Collaboration with Malardalen University, Sweden, University of South-Eastern, Norway for faculty and student exchange programs. We are also tied up with the Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO), India for dissemination of nursing knowledge and skills required for the Nurses across Maharashtra and India. We are also tied up with Honda India for a skill development program for Multipurpose workers in the Health sector, Tata Motors, Pune Municipal Corporation and Rehab Centers for students’ clinical exposure where students from our college get the opportunity to learn.
