NEET UG 2026 Result Row: Bombay HC Orders NTA to Produce Original OMR Sheets by July 30 at nta.ac.in

The Bombay High Court has passed an urgent order concerning NEET UG 2026. It has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to submit the original Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) answer sheets after three candidates alleged serious discrepancies between their calculated and awarded marks.

The Aurangabad Bench of the court is hearing the three petitions. The bench comprises Justice Nitin Suryawanshi and Justice Abasaheb Shinde. The next hearing has been listed for July 30, 2026, under the urgent category.

The NEET UG 2026 result was declared on July 16, 2026. NTA conducts NEET UG for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and allied medical courses across India.

Who Are the Petitioners and What Do They Allege?

Three NEET UG 2026 aspirants have jointly approached the Bombay High Court. The petitioners are Hricha Deshpande, Soham Gavate and Atharva Jagtap. Each candidate has reported significant gaps between their calculated marks and the scores awarded by NTA.

Petitioner Hricha Deshpande claims that she scored 619 marks according to her OMR sheet. However, her final result showed only 280 marks. She also claimed that the result reflected fewer attempted responses in Physics and Chemistry.

Petitioner Soham Gavate has alleged an even larger discrepancy. According to him, NTA awarded him only 95 marks, instead of the 522 marks he calculated. His case relates to the June 21, 2026 re-examination conducted for select candidates.

All three petitioners reportedly received revised OMR sheets by email after July 15, 2026. They alleged that these sheets were different from the OMR copies they had previously viewed on the NTA candidate portal.

How Has NTA Responded to the OMR Row?

The NTA issued an official notice on July 20, 2026, through nta.ac.in. It stated that the OMR sheets circulating widely on social media were digitally altered. The agency described the viral images as fabricated content.

According to NTA, the authentic OMR sheet of every candidate remains available in its official records. The sheets were shared through the candidate portal and candidates’ registered email addresses during the official challenge window before the declaration of the result.

What Does This Mean for NEET UG 2026 Counselling?

NEET UG 2026 counselling will begin on the basis of the declared result. One of the petitioners has raised concerns over counselling proceeding on the basis of the disputed marks.

The hearing scheduled for July 30, 2026, could determine the immediate next steps in the admission and counselling process.

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for All India Quota seats, while the respective state counselling authorities manage the state quota rounds. Any further direction issued by the court may affect the counselling timeline for either or both streams.
