Uttarakhand NEET UG Counselling 2026 will be conducted by Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBUMU), Dehradun, for admission to MBBS and BDS programs in government and private medical and dental colleges of the state. The counselling covers 85% state quota seats and is open to all NEET UG 2026 qualified candidates who meet Uttarakhand’s eligibility norms. As of now, NEET UG 2026 has been conducted and the counselling process is expected to begin in July 2026 once the NEET UG result is declared.

• NEET UG 2026 Result: The NEET UG 2026 result is expected in June 2026 — it is a mandatory prerequisite before Uttarakhand counselling registration can begin. In 2025, the NEET UG result was declared in the 2nd week of June.
• Counselling Registration: Uttarakhand NEET UG Counselling 2026 registration is expected to open in July 2026. In 2025, HNBUMU opened registration on August 8, 2025. The registration fee is ₹6,500 (non-refundable) plus a refundable security deposit.
• Seats Available: Around 9 government and private medical colleges and several dental colleges participate, offering approximately 1,350 MBBS seats and 300+ BDS seats under the state quota across Uttarakhand.
• Counselling Rounds: HNBUMU conducts 4 rounds — Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round. In 2025, Round 1 ran in August, Round 2 in September, and the Stray Vacancy Round concluded in November 2025.

What is Uttarakhand NEET UG Counselling 2026?

Uttarakhand NEET UG Counselling 2026 is a centralized, online state-level admission process for MBBS and BDS courses. HNBUMU — Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University — conducts this counselling on behalf of the Uttarakhand state government every year. It fills the 85% state quota seats in all government and approved private medical and dental colleges of Uttarakhand based on NEET UG scores.

The remaining 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government colleges are filled separately by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) at the national level. AIIMS Rishikesh, being a central government institution, is entirely outside HNBUMU’s jurisdiction — all its seats are managed by MCC and AACCC.

Only NEET UG 2026 qualified candidates can apply. Uttarakhand domicile holders with a valid state-issued domicile certificate get preference for reserved category seats. Non-domicile candidates can also participate for unreserved state quota seats, and management quota seats in private colleges have no domicile requirement at all.

How to Register for Uttarakhand NEET UG Counselling 2026

Uttarakhand NEET UG Counselling 2026 registration is done entirely online through the HNBUMU counselling portal. All steps must be completed within the registration window. Missing any step or the deadline can lead to disqualification from that round.

1. Visit the Official Portal: Go to hnbumu.ac.in and click the Counselling link when it goes live.
2. Login with NEET Credentials: Enter your NEET UG 2026 Roll Number and Application Number to log in and create your counselling profile.
3. Fill Personal and Academic Details: Enter your personal information, NEET score, category, domicile status, and Class 12 PCB marks accurately.
4. Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of required documents — photograph, signature, domicile certificate, category certificate (if applicable), NEET scorecard, and marksheets — in the specified format and size.
5. Pay Registration Fee and Security Deposit: Pay online via Net Banking, Credit Card, or Debit Card. Keep the payment receipt safely.
6. Choice Filling: During the choice filling window, log back in and select your preferred colleges and courses. Arrange them from most preferred to least preferred.
7. Lock Choices: Manually lock your choices before the deadline. The system auto-locks saved choices at the deadline, but it is safer to lock yourself to avoid errors.
8. Download Confirmation Slip: Save and print your choice confirmation slip for future reference.
9. Await Allotment Result: HNBUMU runs the allotment algorithm and publishes results on the portal. Log in on the result date to check your allotment.
10. Report to Allotted College: If you get a seat, report to the college with all original documents and pay the admission fee by the joining deadline.

Important: Choices do NOT carry forward between rounds. You must register and fill fresh choices for each round (Round 1, Round 2, etc.) separately.

Uttarakhand has 5 government medical colleges and 4 private medical colleges participating in HNBUMU centralized counselling for MBBS seats. Several dental colleges also participate for BDS admissions. Here is a detailed overview of each participating institution:

Government Medical Colleges (MBBS)

• Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Dehradun: The most sought-after government medical college in Uttarakhand. Located in the state capital, Dehradun. It has a 150-seat MBBS intake and is attached to Doon Medical College Hospital. The closing rank for General category (state quota) in 2025 was around 15,000 AIR, with a closing score of 543 marks. This is the top choice for most Uttarakhand candidates.
• Government Medical College, Haldwani (Kumaon Medical College): Located in Haldwani, Nainital district, it serves the Kumaon division. It has 150 MBBS seats and is the preferred choice for students from eastern Uttarakhand. The 2025 General state quota closing score was 535 marks.
• Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Govt. Medical College (VCSG), Srinagar: One of the older government medical colleges in the state, located in Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal. It has 150 seats and serves the Garhwal division. The 2025 General state quota closing score was 517 marks — making it relatively accessible among government college options.
• Soban Singh Jeena Govt. Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (SSJ IMS), Almora: Located in Almora in the Kumaon hills with 100 MBBS seats. The 2025 General state quota closing score was 511 marks. This is a good option for candidates with scores in the 500–520 range.
• Government Medical College, Haridwar: Established in 2024, this is the newest government medical college in Uttarakhand. It has 100 MBBS seats. Because it is newly set up, its closing cutoff tends to be slightly lower than the older colleges, making it accessible for a broader range of candidates. The 2025 General state quota closing score was 513 marks.

Private Medical Colleges (MBBS)

• Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences (SGRR), Dehradun: The largest private medical college in Uttarakhand with 250 MBBS seats. It has its own multi-specialty teaching hospital in Dehradun. Annual fee for management quota students is approximately ₹21 lakh. State quota seats are filled through HNBUMU counselling.
• Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Dehradun: Part of Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU). It has 150 MBBS seats and is attached to Himalayan Hospital at Jolly Grant, Dehradun — a major referral hospital in the region. Management quota annual fee is approximately ₹21 lakh.

Dental Colleges (BDS)

Government medical college seats have regulated tuition fees of approximately ₹1.45 lakh per year for domicile candidates. All students joining government MBBS colleges in Uttarakhand must sign a 5-year rural service bond. Non-compliance with the bond attracts a penalty of ₹1 crore.

Choice filling is the single most important step in the entire counselling process. A well-thought-out preference list can mean the difference between getting into a government college and losing out entirely. Here are practical tips to maximize your chances:

Study the 2025 Cutoff Data First

Before you start filling choices, look at the 2025 state quota closing marks for all government colleges (given in this article). Compare your expected NEET UG 2026 score against those cutoffs. Identify the colleges where your score falls comfortably above the cutoff — these are your safe options. Colleges where you are close to the cutoff are your borderline options. Fill both types in your list.

Fill the Maximum Number of Choices Available

• Never leave your preference list short. You should fill every college and course combination that is even remotely acceptable to you.
• Include all 5 government medical colleges — even those with lower cutoffs in Almora or Haridwar. A government MBBS seat anywhere in Uttarakhand costs only ~₹1.45 lakh per year.
• If you are open to private colleges, add state quota seats in SGRR, HIMS, Gautam Buddha, and GEIMS as well. State quota private seats have regulated fees (~₹14–15 lakh/year), much lower than management quota (~₹21 lakh/year).

Don’t Limit Your Choices to One City

Many students fill only Dehradun colleges because of the city’s convenience. This is a mistake. Government MBBS seats in SSJ Almora, VCSG Srinagar, or GMC Haridwar are equally valid government seats with the same recognized MBBS degree. Limiting to one geography reduces your chances significantly — especially if your score is in the 510–530 range.

Put Your Most Preferred Option First

The allotment algorithm gives you the best seat on your list that your score can get. So rank your actual first preference at position 1. If you put a "safe" college first and your score could have got you a better one, you lose out on the better option. Always rank from most preferred to least preferred.

Lock Choices Before the Deadline

Always lock your choices manually and well before the deadline. The auto-lock feature is a backup — it activates at the deadline on saved choices. Any preference not saved and locked will not be considered. A last-minute internet issue can cost you your allotment.

Upgrade Strategy Across Rounds

If Round 1 gives you your top choice, great — report and confirm. If Round 1 gives you your 3rd or 4th preference, consider participating in Round 2 as well.
