What is Uttarakhand NEET UG Counselling 2026?

Uttarakhand NEET UG Counselling 2026 is the state-level centralised admission process for MBBS and BDS courses in medical and dental colleges across Uttarakhand. It is conducted by Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBUMU), Dehradun, on behalf of the Uttarakhand state government. The counselling is held online — registration and choice filling happen through the HNBUMU portal, while document verification and reporting happen at the allotted college.

HNBUMU fills the 85% state quota seats in government colleges and 100% seats (state quota + management quota) in private medical and dental colleges through this process. The remaining 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government colleges are filled separately by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) at the national level and are not part of HNBUMU counselling.

Only candidates who have qualified NEET UG 2026 are eligible to participate. For state quota seats with reservation benefits, candidates must additionally hold a valid Uttarakhand domicile certificate. NTA rescheduled the exam as Re-NEET 2026 on June 21, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM in pen-and-paper OMR mode. All 24+ lakh registered candidates are appearing for the re-exam without any additional registration. The Re-NEET admit card has been released separately.

Uttarakhand NEET UG Counselling 2026 registration is done entirely online through the HNBUMU counselling portal. Registration opens separately for each round — a single registration does NOT carry forward to the next round. You must complete all steps within the specified window for each round you wish to participate in.

Step-by-Step Registration Process

1. Visit the Portal: Go to hnbumu.ac.in and click on the active NEET UG Counselling 2026 link when registration opens
2. Login with NEET Credentials: Use your NEET UG 2026 Application Number and Roll Number to log in and create your counselling profile

Government Medical Colleges

• Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Dehradun: The most competitive government medical college in Uttarakhand, located in the state capital. It has 150 MBBS seats. The state quota General category closing score in 2025 was 543 marks — the highest among all government colleges in the state. Attached to the Doon Medical College Hospital, a major referral centre in Garhwal.
• Government Medical College (Kumaon Medical College), Haldwani: Serves the Kumaon division. Located in Haldwani, Nainital district. It has 150 MBBS seats. The 2025 state quota General closing score was 535 marks — the second most competitive after GDMC. This is the preferred college for candidates from eastern Uttarakhand.
• Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Govt. Institute of Medical Science & Research (VCSG), Srinagar, Pauri Garhwal: One of the older government medical colleges in the state. 150 MBBS seats. The 2025 General state quota closing score was 517 marks. Slightly less competitive due to its remote hill location. Attached to the Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Government Medical College Hospital.
• Soban Singh Jeena Govt. Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (SSJ GIMSR), Almora: Located in Almora, in the Kumaon hills. 100 MBBS seats. The 2025 General state quota closing score was 511 marks. A good option for candidates scoring in the 510–525 range. Many students avoid it due to the hill location — which also means competition is slightly lower.
• Government Medical College (GMC), Haridwar: The newest government medical college in Uttarakhand, established in 2024. 100 MBBS seats. As a newer institution, its cutoff is slightly lower compared to the older colleges. The 2025 General state quota closing score was 513 marks. It offers a good option for candidates in the 510–525 score range who want a city location.

Private Medical Colleges

• Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences (SGRRIMHS), Dehradun: The largest private medical college in Uttarakhand with 250 MBBS seats after a 50-seat expansion approved by NMC in 2025. It runs a multi-specialty teaching hospital. State quota annual fee is approximately Rs. 15 lakh; management quota is approximately Rs. 21 lakh per year.
• Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), Dehradun: Part of Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU), attached to Himalayan Hospital at Jolly Grant — a major referral centre in Uttarakhand. 150 MBBS seats. Strategy Tips for 2026

• Fill every option you are willing to accept: Do not leave the list short. Add all government colleges — even Almora and Haridwar. A government MBBS seat costs only Rs. 1.45 lakh per year anywhere in Uttarakhand.
• Use 2025 cutoff data as a guide: If your expected score is 525 marks, you are well above the Almora and Haridwar cutoffs (511 and 513). Fill all 5 government colleges plus your preferred private colleges for a complete list.
• Put your most preferred college at the top: The algorithm gives you the best seat your rank can secure — so always put your genuine first choice at position 1, not a "safe" pick.
• Include private colleges for a backup: If a government seat is not guaranteed, add state quota private seats (SGRRIMHS, HIMS, Gautam Buddha) — state quota private fees are regulated at approximately Rs. 14–15 lakh per year, much lower than management quota.
• Lock early: Avoid last-minute locking. Server load near the deadline is high. Lock at least 24 hours before the deadline.
