UPTAC 2026: Registration Open till 15 June, Choice Filling, Seat Allotment and Cutoff

UPTAC 2026 (Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling) is the centralised admission process conducted by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow for first-year and lateral entry admissions to B.Tech, B.Pharm, B.Arch, BHMCT, BFAD, BFA, MBA, MCA, and other professional courses across more than 800 AKTU-affiliated and state government colleges in Uttar Pradesh. The UPTAC 2026 Round 1 registration and fee payment window opened on May 25, 2026 and closes tomorrow, June 15, 2026, on the official portal uptac.samarth.edu.in. Candidates who have a valid JEE Main 2026 score and meet the eligibility criteria must register before the deadline as no fresh registration will be accepted in Rounds 2, 3, or 4.

• Registration Closing: UPTAC 2026 Round 1 registration, fee payment, and document upload window closes on June 15, 2026. The registration fee is ₹1,000 and it is non-refundable. No fresh registrations will be allowed in later rounds.
• Document Verification: Online document verification is being carried out from May 28 to June 20, 2026. You should keep scanned copies of JEE Main scorecard, 10th and 12th marksheets, domicile certificate, and category certificate ready.
• Choice Filling: UPTAC 2026 Round 1 choice filling will be held from June 22 to June 25, 2026. You can fill and lock up to 200 institute-branch preferences in priority order.
• Round 1 Seat Allotment: The Round 1 seat allotment result will be declared on June 27, 2026. In 2025, around 1.6 lakh candidates registered for UPTAC counselling across all UG and PG courses.

What is UPTAC 2026?

UPTAC 2026, which stands for Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling, is the centralised state-level counselling process for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate professional courses in Uttar Pradesh. It is conducted by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow. UPTAC manages seat allotment for more than 800 colleges affiliated to AKTU and other state universities for select courses.

The counselling covers admissions to B.Tech, B.Tech (Lateral Entry), B.Pharm, B.Pharm (Lateral Entry), B.Arch, BHMCT, BFAD, BFA, MBA, MCA, MAM, and integrated courses. Admission is granted based on the candidate’s valid score in JEE Main 2026, CUET (UG/PG) 2026, NATA 2026, GATE 2026, or the qualifying exam, depending on the course applied for.

For the 2026 cycle, AKTU has moved the counselling portal to uptac.samarth.edu.in, while uptac.admissions.nic.in continues to host important notices. The whole process is online till the seat is allotted, and physical reporting takes place only at the allotted institute. UPTAC 2026 will be held in five regular rounds and two special rounds.

This makes UPTAC one of the largest state-level engineering and professional admission processes in India, with around 1.5 to 1.7 lakh seats on offer every year across UP. For the last 3 years, registrations have stayed in the 1.5 to 1.8 lakh range across all courses.

UPTAC 2026 Latest Updates

• June 14, 2026: UPTAC 2026 Round 1 registration window will close on June 15, 2026. You should complete your registration, fee payment, and document upload before the deadline.
• June 12, 2026: AKTU has clarified that no fresh registrations will be accepted in Rounds 2, 3, or 4. Only candidates registered in Round 1 will be eligible to fill choices in subsequent rounds.
• June 5, 2026: The official counselling portal has been shifted to uptac.samarth.edu.in. Candidates should use this portal for registration and choice filling.
• May 25, 2026: UPTAC 2026 Round 1 registration started on the official portal. The registration window is open till June 15, 2026.
• May 23, 2026: AKTU has released the complete UPTAC 2026 counselling schedule with all round-wise dates.

Action required: If you have not yet registered, complete your application before 11:59 PM on June 15, 2026. Registration will not reopen in later rounds.

UPTAC 2026 Important Dates

UPTAC 2026 Eligibility Criteria

The UPTAC 2026 eligibility differs slightly across courses but follows a common pattern. You must have a valid score in the qualifying entrance exam and meet the academic conditions set by AKTU. The detailed eligibility for the main UG courses is listed below.

For B.Tech and B.Tech (Lateral Entry)

• You should have passed Class 12 (10+2) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, plus one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or any Technical Vocational subject.
• You must have scored at least 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST candidates) in the qualifying exam.
• You must have a valid JEE Main 2026 rank.
• For Lateral Entry, you must have a 3-year diploma in Engineering with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST).

For B.Pharm

• You should have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology.
• You must have a valid JEE Main 2026 or CUET (UG) 2026 score.
• The minimum aggregate must be 45% (40% for SC/ST).

For B.Arch

• You should have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with at least 50% aggregate.
• You must have a valid NATA 2026 or JEE Main Paper 2 score.

For BHMCT, BFAD, BFA

• You should have passed Class 12 in any stream with at least 45% marks.
• Admission is based on CUET (UG) 2026 score or AKTU SET.

For MBA and MCA

• For MCA, Mathematics at Class 12 or graduation level is mandatory.

Domicile Requirement

UPTAC 2026 has a clear distinction between Home State (UP) and Other State candidates. If you have passed your qualifying exam from a school in Uttar Pradesh or hold a UP domicile certificate, you will be considered under the Home State category. Other State candidates can also participate but most reserved category benefits apply only to UP domiciled candidates.

UPTAC 2026 Registration Process

The UPTAC 2026 registration is a fully online process. You can complete the registration on the official portal uptac.samarth.edu.in within the registration window. The whole process takes around 30 to 45 minutes if your documents are ready.

Step-by-Step Registration

• Step 1: Visit the official UPTAC portal at uptac.samarth.edu.in.
• Step 2: Click on the "New Registration" link for the course you want to apply for (B.Tech, B.Pharm, etc.).
• Step 3: Enter your JEE Main 2026 application number, roll number, and date of birth to fetch your details.
• Step 4: Fill in personal details, academic details, category, domicile, and contact information.
• Step 5: Upload scanned copies of all required documents in the prescribed format and size.
• Step 6: Pay the registration fee of ₹1,000 online using net banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI.
• Step 7: Submit the form and download the confirmation page for your records.

Important: Register only once and use the same credentials for all rounds. Multiple registrations may lead to cancellation.

UPTAC 2026 Application Fee

The UPTAC 2026 application and seat acceptance fees are uniform across categories but the seat confirmation amount changes based on the category. The fee is non-refundable in all cases.

The seat acceptance fee is adjusted against the first-year tuition fee at the allotted institute. If you withdraw after seat acceptance, only a part of the fee may be refunded as per AKTU’s refund policy.

You must keep all the required documents in soft copy format (PDF or JPEG) before starting the registration. Missing or incorrect documents are the most common reason for rejection during verification.

UPTAC 2026 Choice Filling and Locking

Choice filling is the most important stage of UPTAC 2026 counselling. You can fill up to 200 institute-branch preferences in the order of your priority. The seat allotment depends entirely on the choices you fill and the order of priority.

How to Fill Choices

• Log in to the portal with your registration credentials.
• Go to the "Choice Filling" tab.
• Search and add institutes and branches in order of preference.
• Reorder choices using the drag-and-drop feature.
• Save choices before logging out (auto-save is also available).
• Lock choices before the deadline.

You should fill choices generously. A common mistake is filling only top colleges and leaving out backup options, which can result in no seat allotment. Choice locking is irreversible once you confirm it, so you should review the list carefully before locking.

If you do not lock your choices manually, the system will auto-lock them at the deadline based on the order saved.

UPTAC 2026 Seat Allotment

UPTAC 2026 seat allotment is based on three factors: JEE Main / qualifying exam rank, category, and choice priority. AKTU runs an automated allotment algorithm that processes all candidates and choices together to give the best possible seat as per merit.

What Happens After Allotment

Once the result is declared, you have three options to choose from within 2 to 3 days:

• Freeze: Accept the allotted seat and exit further rounds. You will report to the allotted institute.
• Float: Accept the current seat but stay eligible for an upgrade in the next round. If a better choice is allotted, the current seat is automatically cancelled.
• Withdrawal: Cancel your participation in UPTAC 2026 completely.

You must pay the seat acceptance fee to confirm the seat. Missing the payment deadline results in automatic cancellation of the allotted seat with no second chance.

Round-Wise Allotment Pattern

In 2025, around 45% of total seats were filled in Round 1 itself. Rounds 2 and 3 filled another 30%, while special rounds covered the remaining vacancies. The same pattern is expected for UPTAC 2026.

UPTAC 2026 Reservation Policy

UPTAC 2026 follows the Uttar Pradesh State reservation policy, with both vertical and horizontal reservations applied to seats in government and government-aided colleges. Private affiliated colleges follow the same pattern for state quota seats.

You can claim only one horizontal reservation from UPFF/UPAF/UPHC. Female candidates can claim UPGL along with one other horizontal category. The reservation benefit is available only for candidates with a UP domicile certificate.

Counselling is a strategic process. A good rank does not always mean a good seat unless you plan your choices well. Here are some practical tips to help you in UPTAC 2026.

• Research before choice filling: Check the placement records, NIRF rank, and faculty for each institute on your list.
• Use the cutoff data: Compare your JEE Main rank with the previous year’s closing ranks to set realistic expectations.
• Fill more choices: Most students fill only 20 to 30 choices, but you can fill up to 200. Use this freedom to add safe backups.
• Prioritise branch over college (sometimes): A top branch in a Tier-2 college often gives better placements than a low-demand branch in a top college.
• Keep documents ready: All certificates should be scanned and uploaded in the correct size and format to avoid rejection.
• Lock choices on time: Do not wait for the last hour, as the portal may slow down due to heavy traffic.
• Use the Float option carefully: If you choose Float, your current seat may be cancelled in the next round if a better one is allotted. Use Float only if you genuinely want an upgrade.
• Track special rounds: If you do not get a seat in regular rounds, special rounds are a real chance, especially for private colleges.

The paper difficulty has more impact on the cutoff than the total number of candidates, so do not rely only on registration figures.
