Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow for admission to B.Tech, B.Arch, MBA, MCA, M.Tech, B.Pharmacy, and other technical programs in more than 756 colleges across Uttar Pradesh. Registration for UPTAC 2026 is currently open on the new official portal uptac.samarth.edu.in and closes on June 30, 2026 — candidates who have not yet registered must act immediately. Around 1.6 lakh candidates are expected to participate in UPTAC 2026 counselling, competing for approximately 1.09 lakh B.Tech seats and over 1.5 lakh total program seats across government and private colleges in Uttar Pradesh.

  • Registration Last Date: UPTAC 2026 registration closes on June 30, 2026. Visit uptac.samarth.edu.in immediately, pay the Rs. 1,000 non-refundable registration fee, and upload all required documents. The APAAR ID verification via DigiLocker is a new mandatory step in 2026 — set it up before starting registration.
  • Round 1 Choice Filling: Candidates must fill and lock their college-branch preferences from July 4 to July 7, 2026 as per the latest revised UPTAC 2026 schedule published by AKTU. AKTU advises adding at least 50 choices — choices must be locked before the July 7 deadline or they will not be processed in allotment.
  • Round 1 Seat Allotment: The UPTAC 2026 Round 1 seat allotment result is expected on July 9, 2026. After checking your allotment on uptac.samarth.edu.in, you must pay the seat acceptance fee (Rs. 20,000 for General/OBC/EWS; Rs. 12,000 for SC/ST) and declare Freeze, Float, or Withdrawal by July 12, 2026.
  • Physical Reporting: Candidates who freeze their seat after the main rounds must report to their allotted college with original documents between July 27 and July 29, 2026. Missing the reporting deadline will result in automatic cancellation of the allotted seat and forfeiture of the seat acceptance fee.

What is UPTAC 2026?

UPTAC stands for Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling. It is the official centralized online counselling process conducted by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU), Lucknow on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh Technical Education Department. UPTAC is not a written entrance exam — it is a rank-based seat allotment process. Admission is given based on your JEE Main 2026 or CUET UG 2026 score, with no separate UP state engineering entrance test required.

Uttar Pradesh abolished UPSEE (Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination) from 2021 onwards and replaced it with UPTAC. Since then, JEE Main scores are used for B.Tech admissions in all AKTU-affiliated colleges. Candidates who have valid JEE Main 2026 or CUET UG 2026 scores simply need to register for UPTAC and participate in the online counselling rounds to get admission.

UPTAC 2026: Latest Updates (June 27, 2026)

The UPTAC 2026 counselling schedule has been revised multiple times by AKTU this year. As of June 27, 2026, the key active updates are listed below. Candidates must read all updates carefully before taking any action on the portal.

  • Registration Extended to June 30, 2026: AKTU has extended the UPTAC 2026 registration deadline to June 30, 2026. It was originally June 15, then extended to June 22, and now extended again to June 30. If you have not registered yet, visit uptac.samarth.edu.in and complete registration before June 30.
  • Revised Schedule — Round 1 Allotment Now on July 9, 2026: Following the extension of the registration deadline, AKTU revised the counselling schedule again. As per the latest revision, Round 1 choice filling runs from July 4 to July 7, 2026, and the Round 1 seat allotment result is now expected on July 9, 2026. Earlier versions of the schedule had shown allotment on July 4 or even June 27 — those dates are now superseded.
  • New Portal Active — uptac.samarth.edu.in: UPTAC 2026 is being conducted on the new Samarth platform at uptac.samarth.edu.in. The older portal (uptac.admissions.nic.in) redirects to this new platform. All registration, document upload, choice filling, and allotment checking must be done on the new portal.
  • APAAR ID Mandatory for 2026: A new requirement introduced for UPTAC 2026 is APAAR ID verification via DigiLocker. Candidates must have their APAAR ID linked to DigiLocker before completing registration. Set this up before you start the registration process to avoid delays.
  • Document Verification Extended: The CDVT (Central Document Verification Team) online document verification window has been extended to July 2–3, 2026. All registered candidates must ensure their documents are verified before the choice filling window opens on July 4.

Note on June 27 allotment date: Some sources still show Round 1 allotment on June 27, referencing an older version of the UPTAC 2026 schedule. That date has been superseded by AKTU’s official schedule revision. Per the latest revised schedule, Round 1 allotment is July 9, 2026. Always check uptac.samarth.edu.in for the current official schedule.

How to Register for UPTAC 2026

UPTAC 2026 registration is fully online on uptac.samarth.edu.in. The last date is June 30, 2026. Here are all the steps to complete your registration without errors.

  1. New Registration: Visit uptac.samarth.edu.in and click the "New Candidate Registration" link. Enter your JEE Main 2026 or CUET UG 2026 roll number to start. Do not use the old uptac.admissions.nic.in portal — it redirects to the new site.
  2. Fill Personal Details: Enter your name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, and address. Create a strong password and save it securely.
  3. Enter Academic Details: Fill your Class 12 board name, year of passing, aggregate marks in required subjects, and your JEE Main 2026 or CUET UG 2026 score details.
  4. APAAR ID via DigiLocker: This is a new mandatory step for 2026. Link your APAAR ID on DigiLocker before starting your registration. You will need to complete DigiLocker verification on the UPTAC portal during this step.
  5. Upload Documents: Scan and upload all required documents in the format and file size specified by the portal. Low-quality scans will be rejected by the CDVT.
  6. Pay Registration Fee: Pay Rs. 1,000 online using net banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI. This fee is non-refundable.
  7. Submit and Download: Review all details carefully before submitting. After submission, download and save your registration confirmation page.

There is no correction window after submitting the UPTAC 2026 registration form. Double-check your name spelling, date of birth, category, domicile status, and qualifying exam roll number before clicking Submit. Errors discovered later cannot be corrected through the portal.

After registration, the Central Document Verification Team (CDVT) will review your uploaded documents online. You will receive an SMS and email once verified. Document verification must be completed before July 2–3, 2026. You cannot participate in choice filling without CDVT approval.

UPTAC 2026 Documents Required

You must upload scanned copies of the documents listed below during UPTAC 2026 online registration. You must also carry the originals when you physically report to your allotted college after seat confirmation. Missing or incorrect documents at the reporting stage can lead to seat cancellation.

Mandatory Documents for All Candidates

  • Class 10 Marksheet and Passing Certificate (for date of birth verification)
  • Class 12 Marksheet and Passing Certificate from the recognised board
  • JEE Main 2026 Scorecard or CUET UG 2026 scorecard (whichever applies)
  • Aadhaar Card for identity and photo verification
  • Domicile Certificate of Uttar Pradesh for candidates claiming state quota seats
  • Category Certificate — OBC, SC, or ST certificate issued by a Uttar Pradesh government authority
  • EWS Certificate with Income Certificate (for EWS category candidates)
  • Character Certificate from your school principal or a gazetted officer
  • Transfer Certificate (TC) or Migration Certificate from the last institution attended
  • Medical Fitness Certificate from a registered medical officer
  • Recent colour passport-sized photographs as per UPTAC 2026 specifications
  • Scanned signature on white paper in the specified format

  • Defence Dependent Certificate from the competent authority (for defence quota candidates)
  • Freedom Fighter Dependent Certificate (if applicable)
  • For B.Tech lateral entry: all Diploma semester marksheets and Diploma passing certificate

Important: OBC, SC, ST, and EWS category certificates must be issued by a Uttar Pradesh government authority. Certificates from other state governments are not accepted for UP category reservation benefits. Ensure your certificate is from the correct UP government-designated office.

UPTAC 2026 Registration and Seat Acceptance Fees

UPTAC 2026 has two types of fees: a registration fee paid by all candidates at the time of registration, and a seat acceptance fee paid only after you receive a seat allotment. Here is the complete fee breakdown.

Fee Type Applicable To Amount Refundable?
Counselling Registration Fee All candidates (mandatory) Rs. 1,000 No — non-refundable under any condition
Seat Acceptance Fee General / OBC / EWS candidates Rs. 20,000 Yes — refunded on formal withdrawal through portal
Seat Acceptance Fee SC / ST candidates Rs. 12,000 Yes — refunded on formal withdrawal through portal
Special Round Registration Fee Candidates registering freshly for Special Rounds Rs. 1,000 No — non-refundable

The Rs. 1,000 registration fee is non-refundable in all situations — even if you do not get any seat allotment, choose not to report to the college, or withdraw from counselling. The seat acceptance fee (Rs. 20,000 or Rs. 12,000) is refundable only if you formally withdraw your allotment through the UPTAC portal within the withdrawal window.

If you choose Float in any round, your seat acceptance fee is not lost. It is carried forward and applied to the seat you ultimately freeze. Only candidates who formally withdraw from UPTAC get their seat acceptance fee back. All payments must be made online — net banking, UPI, debit card, and credit card are all accepted.

UPTAC 2026 Choice Filling: How It Works

Choice filling is the most important step in UPTAC 2026 counselling. You create a ranked list of college-branch combinations in the order you prefer. The allotment algorithm assigns you the highest-ranked choice for which a seat is available in your category. Round 1 choice filling is open from July 4 to July 7, 2026.

Steps to Fill Choices in UPTAC 2026

  1. Log in to uptac.samarth.edu.in with your credentials on July 4, 2026 or after, once the choice filling window opens.
  2. Go to the Choice Filling section in your dashboard.
  3. Search for colleges and branches using filters: district, college type (government/private), branch name, university.
  4. Add your preferred college-course combinations to your list and arrange them in priority order — your most preferred choice must be at the top.
  5. You can add, remove, and rearrange choices freely during the open window (July 4–7, 2026).
  6. Before the deadline on July 7, click Lock Choices to finalise your preference list.

Locking choices is mandatory. If you save your choices but do not lock them before July 7, 2026, your preferences will NOT be sent to the allotment algorithm and you will receive no allotment in Round 1. Always verify the "Locked" status on the portal after clicking Lock.

Tips for Effective Choice Filling

  • Add at least 50 choices. There is no penalty for adding more options. A longer list means better allotment outcomes — especially if you include all branches you are willing to study, not just your top picks.
  • Check previous year OR-CR data first. Look up the UPTAC 2025 opening and closing ranks for each college-branch combination at the official portal. Use this to determine which options are realistic for your rank and which are long shots.
  • Mix government and private colleges. Add your preferred government college options first, then top private colleges as backups. CSE seats at top government colleges fill very fast — having private college options below them ensures you always have a safety net.
  • Prioritize branch over college if you have a target sector. If you want a software career, CSE at a reputed private AKTU college may give better placement outcomes than a less popular branch at a government college.
  • Consider college location. Colleges in NCR (Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad) and Lucknow attract more campus recruiters due to industry proximity. Factor this into your ranking if placements are a priority.

UPTAC 2026 Seat Allotment and Willingness Options

After the choice filling window closes on July 7, AKTU’s allotment algorithm processes all candidates’ locked preferences against JEE Main 2026 rank, category, and seat availability. The Round 1 seat allotment result is expected on July 9, 2026 on the official portal uptac.samarth.edu.in.

How to Check UPTAC 2026 Seat Allotment

  1. Log in to uptac.samarth.edu.in on or after July 9, 2026.
  2. Go to the Seat Allotment section in your dashboard.
  3. Check your allotted college, branch, and category seat type.
  4. Download and print the allotment letter. You will need this at the time of physical reporting.
  5. Pay the seat acceptance fee and declare your willingness option (Freeze, Float, or Withdrawal) by July 12, 2026.

Freeze, Float, and Withdrawal: What They Mean

Willingness Option What It Means Can You Upgrade Later?
Freeze You permanently accept the allotted seat and exit all further counselling rounds. You must report to the college on the reporting dates. No
Float You accept the current seat as a guaranteed backup but stay in the next round for a possible upgrade to a higher-preference choice. You cannot get a worse seat by choosing Float. Yes — auto-upgraded if a better choice opens in the next round
Withdrawal You exit UPTAC 2026 counselling entirely and get the seat acceptance fee refunded. This is permanent — you cannot re-enter the main rounds after withdrawal. No

If you do not pay the seat acceptance fee or declare a willingness option within the given deadline (July 12 for Round 1), your allotted seat will be automatically cancelled with no exception.

What If You Do Not Get an Allotment in Round 1?

If you do not receive a seat in Round 1, you are automatically considered for Round 2 without any additional action. You can update your choices during the Round 2 choice alteration window (July 13–14, 2026) to add more options or rearrange preferences. Adding more choices — including branches you might not have considered initially — significantly improves your chances of getting an allotment in subsequent rounds.

UPTAC 2026 Counselling Rounds

UPTAC 2026 counselling runs across 4 main rounds, 1 internal sliding round, and 2 special rounds — 7 rounds in total. Together, these rounds aim to fill most available seats before the academic year begins in August 2026.

UPTAC 2026 Round-Wise Schedule

Round Dates Purpose
Round 1 Choice Filling: July 4–7 | Allotment: July 9 | Freeze/Float: July 9–12 First allocation based on locked preferences and JEE Main rank
Round 2 Choice Alteration: July 13–14 | Allotment: July 16 | Freeze/Float: July 16–18 Upgrade round for Float candidates; seats freed by withdrawals are redistributed
Round 3 Choice Locking: July 19–20 | Allotment: July 22 Further upgrades; remaining vacant seats allocated
Round 4 (Auto Freeze) Allotment: July 24 Final main round; all remaining floating candidates are auto-frozen to their best available allotment
Internal Sliding Round Late July – Early August 2026 Branch upgrade within the same college for physically reported candidates only
Special Round 1 ~August 5–14, 2026 (tentative) Open to fresh registrations and CUET UG candidates; fills remaining vacant seats
Special Round 2 ~Mid-August 2026 (tentative) Final round to clear any remaining vacancies before the academic year

Who Can Apply in Special Rounds?

  • Candidates with valid JEE Main 2026 or CUET UG 2026 scores who did not register during the main counselling window can register freshly for Special Rounds.
  • Candidates who withdrew from main rounds can also re-register for Special Rounds.
  • Special Rounds offer only the seats remaining vacant after all 4 main rounds. Popular branches like CSE at top government colleges are rarely available in Special Rounds.
  • A separate registration and fee payment is required for Special Rounds if you did not register during the main window.

Round 4 is an auto-freeze round. All candidates who are still floating after Round 3 are automatically frozen to their best allotted seat. After Round 4, no choice changes are possible in the main rounds. Do not let Round 4 catch you in a seat you cannot accept.

UPTAC 2026 Reservation Policy and Seat Matrix

UPTAC 2026 follows the Uttar Pradesh government’s reservation policy. Your category determines which seats you compete for and what your effective cutoff rank will be. Understanding the seat matrix before filling choices helps you make more realistic decisions.

Vertical Reservation (Category-Wise)

Category Reservation Percentage
General (Unreserved) 40%
OBC (Other Backward Class) 27%
SC (Scheduled Caste) 21%
EWS (Economically Weaker Section) 10%
ST (Scheduled Tribe) 2%

Horizontal Reservation (Within Each Vertical Category)

Special Category Reservation
Female Candidates (UPGL – UP Girl/Lady quota) 20% within each vertical category
Defence / Freedom Fighter Dependents 5% within each vertical category
Divyangjan (Persons with Disabilities – UPHC) 5% within each vertical category

State Quota vs Outside-State Seats

  • Government and Government-Aided Colleges: 85% of total seats are reserved for UP domicile candidates (State Quota). 15% are open to outside-state candidates.
  • Private AKTU-Affiliated Colleges: 80% of seats are for UP domicile candidates. 20% are for outside-state General (OS-GE) candidates.
  • All category reservations (OBC, SC, ST, EWS) apply only to UP domicile candidates. Outside-state candidates compete on open merit within their 20% allocation in private colleges.

The detailed college-wise and branch-wise seat matrix for UPTAC 2026, showing exact seat counts per category per college per branch, is published on the official portal. Always check the seat matrix before finalizing your choice list to understand seat availability in your category.

Ques. When will UPTAC 2026 Round 1 seat allotment result come?

Ans. The UPTAC 2026 Round 1 seat allotment result is expected on July 9, 2026. This is the revised date per the latest AKTU schedule update. Earlier versions of the schedule showed allotment on June 27 or July 4 — both those dates have been superseded. After the allotment, candidates must pay the seat acceptance fee and declare Freeze or Float by July 12, 2026. Check uptac.samarth.edu.in on July 9, 2026 for your result.

Ques. Is JEE Main 2026 compulsory for UPTAC 2026 B.Tech admission?

Ans. Yes. For B.Tech first-year admission through UPTAC 2026 main rounds, you need a valid JEE Main 2026 (Paper 1) score or a CUET UG 2026 score. Uttar Pradesh has not conducted a separate state-level engineering entrance exam since 2021. For Special Rounds in August 2026, CUET UG 2026 candidates also participate along with JEE Main candidates. For lateral entry to B.Tech second year, CUET UG 2026 is the required exam.

Ques. What is the difference between Freeze, Float, and Withdrawal in UPTAC 2026?

Ans. These are willingness options you choose after receiving a seat allotment. Freeze: you permanently accept the allotted seat and exit all further rounds — you report to the college on the given dates. Float: you accept the current seat as a guaranteed backup but also participate in the next round for a possible upgrade. You cannot get a worse seat by choosing Float. Withdrawal: you exit UPTAC 2026 counselling entirely and get the seat acceptance fee refunded. This is permanent — you cannot re-enter the main rounds.

Ques. Can candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh apply for UPTAC 2026?

Ans. Yes. Candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh (called OS-GE candidates) can apply for UPTAC 2026. They are eligible for 20% of total seats in private AKTU-affiliated colleges. They cannot apply for state quota seats in government colleges, which are restricted to UP domicile holders. Outside-state candidates must have a valid JEE Main 2026 score and meet the academic eligibility criteria. There are no category reservations (OBC/SC/ST/EWS) for outside-state candidates.

Ques. What is the UPTAC 2026 registration fee and is it refundable?

Ans. The UPTAC 2026 counselling registration fee is Rs. 1,000 for all candidates. This fee is non-refundable in all circumstances — even if you do not get any seat allotment or choose not to report to the college. The seat acceptance fee paid after allotment (Rs. 20,000 for General/OBC/EWS; Rs. 12,000 for SC/ST) is refundable only if you formally withdraw from counselling through the UPTAC portal within the allowed withdrawal window.

Ques. How many choices should I fill in UPTAC 2026?

Ans. You should fill at least 50 choices in UPTAC 2026. There is no upper limit on the number of choices. Add every college-branch combination you are genuinely willing to join, arranged from most preferred to least preferred. The allotment algorithm assigns you the highest-ranked choice for which a seat is available in your category. Always lock your choices before the July 7, 2026 deadline — saved but unlocked choices are not processed in allotment.

Ques. What is the UPTAC 2025 cutoff for IET Lucknow CSE?

Ans. Based on UPTAC 2025 data, the closing rank for IET Lucknow CSE for General Home State candidates was approximately 40,786. The Information Technology branch closed around 48,210. These are approximate Round 1 closing ranks and will vary each year. UPTAC 2026 cutoffs will be published after Round 1 allotment on July 9, 2026. Use 2025 data as a reference guide, not an exact prediction.

Ques. Does HBTU Kanpur participate in UPTAC 2026?

Ans. No. Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU) Kanpur does not participate in UPTAC. HBTU conducts its own independent counselling process at hbtu.admissions.nic.in. Similarly, Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (MMMUT) Gorakhpur has its own separate counselling at mmmut.admissions.nic.in. If you want admission to HBTU or MMMUT, you must register separately on their respective portals. These universities are not part of UPTAC 2026.

Ques. What documents are needed for UPTAC 2026 counselling?

Ans. For UPTAC 2026 you need: Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets and passing certificates, JEE Main 2026 scorecard, Aadhaar Card, UP domicile certificate, category certificate (OBC/SC/ST/EWS — must be from a UP government authority), character certificate, transfer or migration certificate, medical fitness certificate, recent passport-sized photographs, scanned signature, and APAAR ID via DigiLocker (new requirement for 2026). Carry originals of all documents when reporting to your allotted college.

Ques. How many rounds does UPTAC 2026 counselling have?

Ans. UPTAC 2026 counselling has 7 rounds in total: 4 main rounds (Rounds 1 to 4), 1 internal sliding round (within the same college for physically reported candidates), and 2 special rounds in August 2026 (open to fresh registrations and CUET UG candidates). Round 4 is an auto-freeze round — all floating candidates are automatically assigned their best available seat. Special rounds fill any seats remaining vacant after the main rounds.
