SLIET SET 2026 Preparation Tips

If you are preparing for SET-V (Ph.D. entrance test — August 6, 2026), or if you want to prepare for SLIET SET for future cycles, here are focused, programme-specific preparation strategies.

For SET-I — ICD Programme (Class 10 Syllabus)

  • NCERT is your best resource: The entire SET-I syllabus is Class 9 and 10 NCERT. Master all chapters before moving to any reference book.
  • Mathematics is the most scoring section: Topics like algebra, geometry, mensuration, and statistics are predictable and follow NCERT exactly. Aim for full marks in Mathematics to maximise your rank.
  • Physics — understand concepts, not formulas: SET-I Physics tests understanding of laws and applications. Focus especially on Electricity and Optics — these chapters carry more weight historically.
  • Chemistry — learn reactions and periodic table: Most Chemistry questions come directly from NCERT chapters. Memorise key equations, the periodic table groups, and properties of common metals and non-metals.
  • GK and Mental Ability — daily practice: Read a Class 10-level current affairs summary weekly. Solve 15–20 Mental Ability questions daily — this section improves fastest with consistent practice.
  • Negative marking strategy: With −¼ marking, never guess blindly. Scoring 65 correct and skipping 35 uncertain ones is better than attempting all 100 with 30 wrong.

For SET-III — B.E. Lateral Entry (Diploma Level)

  • Revise all Diploma semester content: Engineering Mathematics, Physics, and your core trade subjects are the foundation of SET-III. Go through 1st and 2nd year Diploma notes and also revise NCERT Class 11–12 books for Physics and Chemistry.
  • Basics of Engineering is the differentiator: This 20-mark section covers Engineering Drawing, Basic Electrical/Electronics, Workshop Technology, and Computer Fundamentals. Many candidates underestimate it. 20 marks can shift your rank by hundreds of positions — give it dedicated, focused preparation.
  • Solve previous year papers under timed conditions: SLIET publishes sample papers and previous year question papers on sliet.ac.in. Solve at least 5 full papers under exam conditions (120 questions, 2 hours) before the exam date.
  • Speed is critical: 120 questions in 120 minutes means 1 minute per question. Build answering speed through timed practice. Identify question types you can answer in under 40 seconds and use that saved time for harder questions.

For SET-V — Ph.D. Entrance Test (No Negative Marking)

  • Research-area focus: SET-V is stream-specific. Revise the core subjects of your proposed research area and your M.Tech./M.Sc. specialisation thoroughly.

It is used for admission to ICD, B.E. Lateral Entry, Integrated M.Tech. Lateral Entry, M.Sc., M.Tech., MBA, and Ph.D. programmes at SLIET. The main 2026 exam was held on May 9, 2026, and results were declared on May 18, 2026.

Ques. What is the eligibility for SLIET SET ICD programme?

Ans. You should have passed Class 10 from a recognized board (State Board, CBSE, ICSE, or National Open School) with English, Mathematics, and Science as compulsory subjects. There is no minimum percentage requirement and no upper age limit for ICD programme admission. Passing Class 10 is sufficient to appear in SLIET SET-I.

The result shows your subject-wise marks, total score, and merit rank in your category. The SET-V (Ph.D.) result will be declared on August 7, 2026.

Ques. Can I apply for SLIET B.Tech through SLIET SET?

Ans. No. Direct B.Tech admission at SLIET (4-year, after Class 12) is only through JEE Main scores via JoSAA/CSAB counselling — not through SLIET SET. However, Diploma holders can use SLIET SET-III for B.E. Lateral Entry — direct admission into the 2nd year of the B.E. programme.

Ques. What is the exam pattern of SLIET SET-III for B.E. Lateral Entry?

Ans. SET-III is a 2-hour CBT exam with 120 MCQ questions worth 120 marks. Subjects are: English/GK/Mental Ability (25 marks), Mathematics (25 marks), Physics (25 marks), Chemistry (25 marks), and Basics of Engineering (20 marks). There is −¼ negative marking for each wrong answer. The Basics of Engineering section is unique to SLIET SET and covers Engineering Drawing, Basic Electrical/Electronics, Workshop Technology, and Computer Fundamentals.

Ques. Is choice filling mandatory for SLIET SET 2026 counselling?

Ans. Yes. Choice filling is mandatory for qualified candidates in ICD, B.E. Lateral Entry (Group A and Group C), and Integrated M.Tech. (Group A). For ICD: ₹1,000 for General/OBC male, ₹750 for General/OBC female, ₹750 for SC/ST — all plus 18% GST and bank charges. The fee is non-refundable under all circumstances.

Ques. Is there negative marking in SLIET SET 2026?

Ans. Yes — for SET-I, IA, II, III, IV, VI, and VII, there is −¼ (0.25 mark) negative marking for each wrong answer. Unanswered questions carry zero marks with no penalty. SET-V (Ph.D. programme, exam August 6, 2026) is the only paper with no negative marking — attempt all 100 questions in SET-V.

Ques. What is the ICD programme at SLIET and why is it special?

Ans. ICD stands for Integrated Certificate-Diploma programme — a unique 3-year programme available only at SLIET and at no other central technical institute in India. It admits students after Class 10 via SET-I. Students earn a Certificate (Year 1) and then a Diploma (Years 2–3) in a vocational engineering trade. After completing ICD, students can directly enter B.E. 2nd year at SLIET. This makes ICD a powerful pathway for students who want to reach a B.E. degree from a Government of India university without needing 10+2.

Ques. How do I apply for SLIET Ph.D. admission 2026?

Ans. For Ph.D. admission at SLIET 2026, you need to appear for SET-V (Ph.D. entrance test). Applications are open until August 5, 2026, and the exam is on August 6, 2026, with results on August 7, 2026. You need a Master’s degree with 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) or a B.Tech./B.E. with minimum 7.0 CGPA. Apply at slietexam.co.in and pay ₹1,750 + GST (General male) or ₹1,000 (SC/ST) as application fee.
