What is JKBOSE 2026?
JKBOSE stands for Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education. It is the official authority that conducts Class 10 (SSE) and Class 12 (HSP-II) board examinations for students in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The board was originally established on 24 March 1965 under Act No. II of 1965 and was initially called the Jammu & Kashmir Board of Secondary Education. It was reconstituted in 1975 under the J&K State Board of School Education Act, 1975.
The board has two main offices — the headquarters in Jammu and a regional office in Bemina, Srinagar. It governs more than 10,200 affiliated schools and 22,856 employed teachers across J&K and Ladakh. JKBOSE also manages curriculum development, school affiliation, open and distance learning, and scholarship administration for the region.
One of the most important features of JKBOSE is its dual-zone examination system. The board conducts examinations in two separate annual cycles:
- Summer Zone: Covers Jammu Division and other areas with moderate winters. Exams are held between February and March, and results are declared in April.
- Winter Zone: Covers Kashmir Division, Kargil, Leh, and parts of Jammu Division that experience harsh winters. Exams are held between November and December, and results are declared in January.
JKBOSE certificates are recognized by all central and state universities in India. Students who pass Class 12 from JKBOSE are eligible to appear for national entrance exams such as NEET, JEE Main, CUET, and CLAT. The board follows NCERT-aligned textbooks for most subjects, especially in Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

JKBOSE 2026 Syllabus
The JKBOSE 2026 syllabus is largely aligned with NCERT textbooks for core subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. The board follows a comprehensive curriculum covering a wide range of subjects for both Class 10 and Class 12 across three streams.
JKBOSE Class 10 Syllabus 2026
Class 10 students must study a combination of core and optional subjects. The compulsory subjects are:
- English (compulsory for all students)

- Urdu or Hindi (second language, one to be chosen)
Optional and additional subjects include:
- Arabic, Kashmiri, Dogri, Bhoti, Punjabi, Persian, Sanskrit (regional and classical languages)

- Home Science
- Art and Drawing / Painting
- Music
- Physical Education
- Vocational subjects: Healthcare, Tourism, IT and Computer, Retail, Security, Agriculture
JKBOSE Class 12 Syllabus 2026
Class 12 students choose one of three main streams. English is compulsory for all streams.

- Students can also take both Biology and Mathematics
- Optional: Computer Science, Home Science, Physical Education
Commerce Stream:

The JKBOSE Class 12 syllabus for Science subjects closely follows NCERT textbooks. For most topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, NCERT books are sufficient as the primary study material. The board also follows NCERT for Mathematics (Class 12 level).
JKBOSE 2026 Grading and Marking Scheme
JKBOSE uses a grading system to classify student performance in board examinations. Understanding the grading scheme helps you know where you stand and what grade your marks translate to. The marking scheme also includes a grace marks policy for students who fall slightly short of the passing threshold.
JKBOSE Grading System
| Grade | Marks Range | Performance Level |
|---|---|---|
| A (Excellent) | 75% – 100% | Outstanding performance |
| B (Very Good) | 60% – 74% | Above average performance |
| C (Good) | 45% – 59% | Satisfactory performance |
| D (Average) | 36% – 44% | Below average, passed |
| E (Fail) | Below 36% | Did not meet passing criteria |
Passing Marks Summary
| Class | Component | Total Marks | Minimum to Pass |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class 10 | Theory | 80 | 26 (33%) |
| Class 10 | Internal Assessment | 20 | 7 (33%) |
| Class 10 | Total (per subject) | 100 | 33 |
| Class 12 | Theory (100-mark papers) | 80 | 29 (36%) |
| Class 12 | Practical / Internal | 20 | 8 (36%) |
| Class 12 | Total (per subject) | 100 | 36 |
Grace Marks Policy
JKBOSE has a grace marks policy to help students who narrowly miss the passing threshold:
- Up to 6 grace marks can be awarded in a subject if a student falls short by 6 marks or fewer
- Grace marks are applied at the discretion of the board, typically to help marginal fail cases
- If a student fails in two subjects and the combined shortfall is within 6 marks, grace marks may be distributed across subjects
Syllabus Relaxation (Winter Zone / Kashmir Division)
JKBOSE grants a 15% syllabus relaxation to students in Kashmir Division, Winter Zone Jammu, and Ladakh in certain sessions, due to disruptions from weather, unrest, or other conditions. Under this policy, students attempt 85% of the total marks and are evaluated proportionally. This lowers the effective passing mark. For example, in a 100-mark paper where the standard passing mark is 36, the revised passing mark under 15% relaxation becomes 31.
JKBOSE 2026 Result Rechecking and Re-evaluation
If you are not satisfied with your JKBOSE 2026 Summer Zone result, you can apply for rechecking (verification of marks) or re-evaluation (re-checking of answer scripts). This facility is available for both Class 10 and Class 12 students.
Types of Post-Result Services
- Rechecking: JKBOSE re-totals your marks and checks if all questions were marked. No change in the awarded marks, only addition errors are corrected.
- Re-evaluation: Your answer script is re-checked by an examiner. Marks may increase or remain the same. In rare cases, they may also decrease.
- Obtaining Answer Scripts: You can apply to get a copy of your evaluated answer script for your own review.
How to Apply for Rechecking / Re-evaluation
- Visit the JKBOSE official website at jkbose.jk.gov.in
- Download the rechecking / re-evaluation application form
- Submit the filled form with the required fee at the nearest JKBOSE office or as directed online
- The result of rechecking is usually declared within 4–6 weeks of application submission
The rechecking application window for Summer Zone 2026 results (declared 21 April 2026) is typically open for 30 days post-result. The exact deadline may have been notified by JKBOSE — check jkbose.jk.gov.in immediately if you wish to apply.
JKBOSE 2026 Winter Zone Exams
The JKBOSE Winter Zone exam cycle covers students in the Kashmir Division, Kargil, Leh, and selected areas of Jammu Division that experience extreme winters. These regions hold their exams in November–December rather than February–March to avoid disruption due to snow and harsh weather.

JKBOSE 2026 Preparation Tips
Whether you are appearing in the upcoming compartment exam, the bi-annual private exam, or the Winter Zone exams in November 2026, smart preparation is key. Here are targeted tips based on the current exam phase:
For Compartment / Re-Appear Exam Students
Students appearing in the compartment exam (expected July–August 2026) have a limited time to prepare. Focus on these strategies:
- Identify weak areas: Look at your Summer Zone result and focus only on the subject(s) you are re-appearing in
- Stick to NCERT: For Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology — NCERT textbooks are the most important source
- Solve previous year papers: Practice at least 5 years of previous JKBOSE question papers to understand the exam pattern
- Focus on high-weightage topics: Prioritize chapters that carry more marks based on the question paper format (long-answer questions carry the most marks)
- Revise internal assessment topics: Remember, 20 marks come from internal assessment that has already been awarded — focus entirely on clearing the 80-mark theory minimum (26 marks for Class 10, 29 marks for Class 12)
For Winter Zone Exam Students (November 2026)
If you are a student in Kashmir Division, Kargil, or Leh, you still have several months before your November 2026 exams. Use this time effectively:
- Complete the syllabus by October: Aim to finish all chapters by end of October so you have time for revision
- Make subject-wise notes: Short notes and formula sheets are very helpful for last-minute revision
- Take mock tests: Attempt full-length practice papers under timed conditions (3 hours per paper)
- Pay attention to school-based assessment: The 20-mark internal assessment is evaluated by your school throughout the year — submit all assignments and projects on time
Subject-Wise Tips
- Mathematics: Practice is the only way to score well. Solve at least 10 questions per topic every day. NCERT exercises are a must.
- Science / Physics / Chemistry: Focus on understanding concepts rather than memorising. Diagrams and derivations carry marks in JKBOSE theory papers.
- Biology: Diagrams are very important. Label all diagrams correctly. Read NCERT chapters thoroughly.
- English: Practice reading comprehension passages, letter and essay writing. Aim for clarity and grammar accuracy.
- Social Science / History / Geography: Make brief notes chapter by chapter. Focus on maps for Geography and dates for History.
