INI CET July 2026 Counselling is conducted by AIIMS New Delhi for admission to MD, MS, MDS, DM, and MCh programs at Institutes of National Importance including all AIIMS campuses, JIPMER, PGIMER Chandigarh, NIMHANS Bengaluru, and SCTIMST Thiruvananthapuram. Round 1 choice filling and locking is open from June 16–17, 2026 at aiimsexams.ac.in, with the seat allotment result expected on June 24, 2026 and reporting deadline of June 30, 2026.
- Counselling is centralized and conducted entirely online by AIIMS New Delhi on behalf of all participating Institutes of National Importance.
- The full counselling cycle has four rounds: Mock Round (completed June 15), Round 1 (active now), Round 2 (allotment July 10), and Open Round (dates TBA).
- A key INI CET-specific rule: Round 2 uses the identical choice list you locked in Round 1 — no modifications to your preference order are allowed between rounds.
- Students who do not join after accepting a seat under Option 2 face a non-joining penalty of Rs. 3 lakh.
- At the time of reporting, you must produce original documents as security or pay Rs. 3 lakh as a monetary security deposit in lieu of originals.
- Registering for counselling is mandatory — your INI CET rank alone does not guarantee a seat.
What is INI CET Counselling 2026?
INI CET (Institute of National Importance Combined Entrance Test) Counselling 2026 is the centralized admission process for PG medical and super-specialty seats at India’s premier Institutes of National Importance. AIIMS New Delhi is the sole counselling authority, administering the entire process online through aiimsexams.ac.in on behalf of all participating institutes — all AIIMS campuses, JIPMER Puducherry, PGIMER Chandigarh, NIMHANS Bengaluru, and SCTIMST Thiruvananthapuram.
The July 2026 session covers MD, MS, MDS, DM, and MCh seats. The INI CET exam was held on May 16, 2026, and results were declared on May 23, 2026. Students who cleared the exam and hold a valid merit rank are eligible to participate in counselling. INI CET is a fully independent process from NEET PG — an INI CET rank cannot be used for NEET PG counselling, and vice versa.
The counselling cycle comprises four rounds. The Mock Round (June 11–15, 2026) was a practice run allowing students to explore the choice filling interface without affecting real allotments; it is now over. Round 1 is currently active (June 16–17, 2026). A distinctive INI CET rule: Round 2 reuses the exact preference list you locked in Round 1 — there is no fresh choice filling between rounds. This makes it critical to submit a comprehensive, well-ordered list during the Round 1 window.

INI CET Counselling Eligibility Criteria 2026
You must satisfy all of the following conditions to participate in INI CET July 2026 Counselling. Falling short of any single criterion makes you ineligible for seat allotment regardless of your rank.
- Valid INI CET July 2026 rank: You must have appeared in the INI CET exam on May 16, 2026, and hold a valid rank on the merit list declared on May 23, 2026.
- MBBS / BDS completion: Your undergraduate degree must be from a university recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) or Dental Council of India (DCI). Compulsory rotating internship must be completed by the date specified in the AIIMS INI CET 2026 Information Brochure.
- Medical / Dental Council registration: A permanent registration with NMC or a State Medical Council (SMC) — or DCI for MDS applicants — is mandatory. A valid registration certificate must be produced at the time of reporting.
- Minimum qualifying marks in MBBS / BDS:
- General / OBC-NCL / EWS: 55% aggregate marks in MBBS / BDS
- SC / ST / PwD: 50% aggregate marks in MBBS / BDS
- Age limits (institute-specific): Most AIIMS campuses do not impose an upper age limit for MD/MS. However, NIMHANS prescribes a maximum age of 32 years for General category students and SCTIMST prescribes 40 years. Always check the Part B prospectus of each specific institute you intend to apply to for institute-level age requirements.
- Attempt limits: The permissible number of attempts varies by institute and by course (MD/MS vs. DM/MCh). Refer to the AIIMS INI CET 2026 Prospectus Part A and the relevant institute-specific Part B prospectus for applicable limits before registering.
- Sponsored / In-Service students: If applying under a sponsored or in-service quota, you must provide a valid sponsorship letter from the appropriate government authority at the time of counselling registration.
Reservation of Quotas for INI CET Counselling 2026
All seats at Institutes of National Importance are filled on an All India merit basis following Central Government reservation norms. There is no state domicile quota — students from any state compete equally for seats at any participating institute across India.
| Category | Reservation | Key Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| General / Unreserved (UR) | Open — no reservation | All India merit; no domicile restriction |
| Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) | 27% | OBC-NCL certificate in Central Government format; students from the creamy layer are excluded and compete in the General pool |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 15% | SC certificate from the competent authority as per Central Government norms |
| Scheduled Tribe (ST) | 7.5% | ST certificate from the competent authority as per Central Government norms |
| Economically Weaker Section (EWS) | 10% | Income and Asset Certificate from Tehsildar or above; must be valid for financial year 2025–26 |
| Persons with Disability (PwD) | 5% (Horizontal) | Horizontal reservation across all categories; disability certificate from a Government Medical Board; original certificate re-verified by the institute’s medical board at reporting |
| Sponsored / In-Service | Institute-specific | Select institutes (PGIMER, NIMHANS, SCTIMST, and certain AIIMS campuses) reserve a fixed number of seats for in-service / sponsored students; check the respective Part B prospectus for seat count and conditions |
OBC-NCL students must ensure their caste certificate is in the Central Government format — State Government OBC certificates are not accepted for Central Government institute admissions. Students belonging to the creamy layer of OBC are treated as General category and compete in the open merit pool.
How to Apply for INI CET Counselling 2026?
INI CET Counselling registration is done entirely online at aiimsexams.ac.in. You log in using the same credentials — Registration ID, Exam Unique Code (EUC), and password — created during your INI CET examination registration. There is no separate sign-up account for counselling. Follow the five steps below for each active round.
Step 1: Login to the Counselling Portal
Visit aiimsexams.ac.in and click on the "INI CET July 2026 Counselling" link. Enter your INI CET Registration ID, Exam Unique Code (EUC), and password to access your counselling dashboard. If you have forgotten your password, use the "Forgot Password" option to reset it via your registered email — do this before the choice filling window closes on June 17, 2026.
Step 2: Fill Personal and Academic Details
First-time users entering the counselling system must verify and complete their profile. This includes personal information, MBBS / BDS academic record (university, year of passing, aggregate marks), internship completion details, and your NMC / SMC / DCI registration number. Every detail you enter must match your official documents exactly — discrepancies discovered at reporting can delay or cancel your admission.
Step 3: Choice Filling and Locking
Navigate to "Choice Filling and Locking" on your dashboard. Browse all available institute-course combinations and arrange them in your preferred order. You may add, remove, and reorder choices freely until the deadline. Fill at least 15–20 choices to maximise your chances across all rounds. Once satisfied, click "Lock Choices." Your locked list is final — it is used for Round 1 allotment and automatically carried forward unchanged to Round 2. There is no facility to modify preferences before Round 2.
Step 4: Seat Allotment and Acceptance
Log in on June 24, 2026 to check your Round 1 allotment. If a seat has been assigned, you will see the institute, course, and category. You must respond by June 30, 2026 by choosing Option 1 (Accept and Freeze), Option 2 (Accept with Upgrade), or Withdraw. Students choosing Option 2 should note that a Rs. 3 lakh non-joining penalty applies if they receive an upgraded seat in Round 2 but ultimately fail to join that institute.
Step 5: Document Verification and Reporting
Students who accept a seat under Option 1 must physically report to the allotted institute between June 25–30, 2026. At reporting, present all original documents for verification. You must either surrender original documents as security to the institute or pay Rs. 3 lakh as a monetary security deposit in lieu of originals. If you fail to report within the deadline, your allotted seat will be cancelled and amounts paid may be forfeited.
How to Lock Choices for INI CET Counselling 2026
Choice locking is the single most consequential step in INI CET Counselling. Your locked preference list determines allotments in both Round 1 and Round 2 — making it vital to build the most comprehensive, correctly ordered list possible during the June 16–17, 2026 window.
Step 1: Log In to the Portal
- Go to aiimsexams.ac.in and click on "INI CET July 2026 Counselling."
- Enter your Registration ID, Exam Unique Code (EUC), and password.
- Click "Login" to reach your counselling dashboard.
Step 2: Open the Choice Filling Interface
- From the dashboard, click on "Choice Filling and Locking."
- The interface shows all available institute-course combinations with category-wise seat counts.
Step 3: Build and Arrange Your Preference List
- Use the search and filter options to browse by institute, course, or specialization.
- Click "Add" to include a combination in your preference list.
- Drag and reorder entries so your most preferred combination sits at rank 1.
- Add, remove, and reorder choices as many times as needed before the deadline.
- Plan carefully — this same list applies to Round 2 automatically; there is no later opportunity to revise it.
Step 4: Preview and Lock Your Choices
- Click "Preview" to carefully review your final preference order before committing.
- When satisfied, click "Lock Choices."
- A confirmation pop-up asks you to reconfirm — read it before clicking Yes.
- After confirmation, your choices are permanently locked and cannot be edited for any round.
Step 5: Save Your Confirmation
- Download the locked choice list PDF from the portal immediately after locking.
- You will receive an email and SMS confirmation summarizing your locked preferences.
- Retain both the PDF and the confirmation messages — you will need them for subsequent rounds and for reporting.
Once confirmed, your choices are locked and cannot be changed for any subsequent round.
| Action | Allowed Before Locking? | Allowed After Locking? |
|---|---|---|
| Add new institute-course choices | Yes — unlimited additions | No |
| Remove a choice from the list | Yes | No |
| Reorder preferences | Yes — drag and drop | No |
| View your preference list | Yes (draft view) | Yes (locked, read-only view) |
| Download preference list PDF | Yes (draft copy) | Yes (final locked copy) |
| Modify list for Round 2 | N/A | No — Round 2 automatically uses your Round 1 locked list |
INI CET Counselling Documents Required 2026
You must carry originals and at least three self-attested photocopies of every document listed below when reporting to the allotted institute. Documents are cross-checked against your online application. Incomplete documentation at reporting may result in denial of admission at the institute level.
- INI CET July 2026 Allotment Letter — downloaded from the AIIMS counselling portal after seat allotment
- INI CET July 2026 Offer Letter / Joining Letter — generated after online seat acceptance
- INI CET July 2026 Admit Card — original printed copy
- MBBS / BDS Degree Certificate or Provisional Degree Certificate from the university
- MBBS / BDS Mark Sheets — all professional examinations (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Final Year, including all parts)
- Internship Completion Certificate — issued by the Dean or Principal of your medical / dental college
- NMC / DCI Permanent Registration Certificate — or a bonafide letter from the Medical / Dental Council if permanent registration is pending
- Date of Birth Proof — Class X Passing Certificate, Aadhaar Card, or Passport
- Category Certificate (if applicable):
- OBC-NCL: Certificate in Central Government format, issued within the current financial year (2025–26)
- SC / ST: Certificate from the competent authority as per Central Government norms
- EWS: Income and Asset Certificate from Tehsildar or above, valid for financial year 2025–26
- PwD Certificate (if applicable) — from a Government Medical Board; original required for re-verification by the institute’s medical board at the time of reporting
- Sponsored / In-Service Letter (if applicable) — on official letterhead from the appropriate government authority
- Passport-Size Photographs — minimum 6 recent, identical, colour photographs
- Photo Identity Proof — Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID, or Driving Licence
- Migration / Transfer Certificate — from the last institution attended
- Anti-Ragging Undertaking — signed by student and parent / guardian, as required by the allotted institute
Note: At reporting you must either submit original documents to the institute as security or pay Rs. 3 lakh as a monetary security deposit in lieu of originals. Arriving without originals and without the security deposit will result in admission being withheld at the institute level.
How Much Money is Needed for INI CET Counselling 2026?
INI CET Counselling 2026 involves two main financial commitments: a counselling registration fee (if applicable) paid when entering the process, and a large security deposit required at the time of reporting. Students who choose Option 2 face an additional financial risk — a non-joining penalty if they are upgraded in the next round but then fail to join that allotted institute. Plan your finances well before the Round 1 reporting deadline of June 30, 2026.
Non-Refundable Registration Fee
A counselling registration or processing fee, if applicable, is charged at the time of participating in choice filling. This fee is non-refundable regardless of whether you receive a seat or choose to withdraw later. The exact amount payable for INI CET July 2026 Counselling should be confirmed from the official AIIMS counselling notification at aiimsexams.ac.in before the Round 1 window closes on June 17, 2026.
| Category | Counselling Registration Fee |
|---|---|
| General / OBC-NCL / EWS | As notified in the official AIIMS INI CET July 2026 Counselling Notification (verify at aiimsexams.ac.in) |
| SC / ST / PwD | As notified in the official AIIMS INI CET July 2026 Counselling Notification (verify at aiimsexams.ac.in) |
Security Deposit and Non-Joining Penalty
The security deposit is the dominant financial commitment in INI CET Counselling. At reporting, you surrender original documents as security or pay Rs. 3 lakh as a monetary deposit in lieu of originals; this deposit is refunded when you submit originals later or complete the course. The non-joining penalty is an entirely separate, non-refundable amount charged only to Option 2 students who fail to join after upgradation — it is not the same as the security deposit, though both are Rs. 3 lakh.
| Financial Commitment | Amount | When Applicable | Refund / Forfeiture |
|---|---|---|---|
| Security Deposit (in lieu of original documents) | Rs. 3,00,000 | At reporting to the allotted institute, if originals are not submitted | Refunded on subsequent submission of originals or on completion of the course |
| Non-Joining Penalty (Option 2 students only) | Rs. 3,00,000 | If you chose Option 2, received an upgraded seat in the next round, but failed to join that institute by the reporting deadline | Forfeited to AIIMS — not refundable under any circumstance |
Note: These amounts are sourced from the official AIIMS INI CET counselling notification and may be subject to revision. Always verify the final figures from aiimsexams.ac.in before reporting or making any payment.
INI CET Round-Wise Seat Allotment 2026
INI CET July 2026 Counselling allocates seats across four rounds. Allotment in each round is computed by the AIIMS algorithm based on your rank, locked preference order, available category-wise vacancies, and reservation criteria. Students who opt for upgradation after Round 1 are automatically considered in Round 2 using their same locked list — no additional registration or choice submission is needed from them.
| Round | Purpose | Choice Filling | Allotment Date | Acceptance / Reporting |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mock Round | Practice only — no real seats allotted; lets students learn the choice filling interface before Round 1 opens | June 11–13, 2026 | June 15, 2026 | No reporting required |
| Round 1 | First real allotment; all students with valid INI CET July 2026 ranks are considered | June 16–17, 2026 (Active now) | June 24, 2026 | June 25–30, 2026 |
| Round 2 | Upgradation allotment for Option 2 students from Round 1; also fills seats vacated by withdrawals | No fresh choice filling — Round 1 locked list carried forward automatically | July 10, 2026 | July 11–16, 2026 |
| Open Round | Fills remaining vacant seats after Round 2; may allow fresh registrations from qualified students who did not participate in earlier rounds | To be announced | To be announced (Expected: July–August 2026) | To be announced |
The table below lists all institutes participating in INI CET July 2026 Counselling. Exact seat counts per institute, course, and category are published in the official seat matrix on aiimsexams.ac.in when each round opens.

| SCTIMST | Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala | DM, MCh (Cardiology, Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery, and related super-specialties); note: upper age limit of 40 years for General category students |
Note: Not all AIIMS campuses offer all PG courses in every session. Newer campuses may have limited specialties. Check the official seat matrix at aiimsexams.ac.in for the exact course-wise, category-wise vacancies for INI CET July 2026 Counselling.
Option 1 vs Option 2 vs Withdraw: Making the Right Decision
After Round 1 seat allotment on June 24, 2026, every student who receives an allotment must respond by June 30, 2026. INI CET uses a two-option acceptance framework — distinct from the freeze/float/slide terminology used in JoSAA or MCC NEET PG counselling.
| Choice | What It Means | Seat Security | Financial Implication | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Option 1 (Accept & Freeze) | Accept the allotted seat permanently; exit all further rounds | Seat is fully secured with no risk of losing it | Submit originals or pay Rs. 3 lakh security deposit at reporting; no penalty risk in subsequent rounds | Students whose Round 1 allotment matches their 1st or 2nd preference institute and course |
| Option 2 (Accept & Upgrade) | Accept the current seat as a backup but remain in the process for a better seat in Round 2; AIIMS reapplies your locked Round 1 preference list to Round 2 automatically — no action needed from you | Current seat held until a better allotment replaces it in Round 2; if no improvement, you retain your Round 1 seat | Rs. 3 lakh non-joining penalty applies if a Round 2 seat is allotted but you do not join that institute by the reporting deadline | Students who received a low-preference allotment in Round 1 and want to try for a higher-ranked option without losing their backup seat entirely |
| Withdraw | Decline the allotted seat and exit INI CET July 2026 Counselling entirely | No seat retained; cannot re-enter this counselling cycle (Open Round eligibility depends on AIIMS conditions) | Amounts paid may be forfeited depending on the stage and terms stated in the AIIMS notification | Students who have already secured admission elsewhere, plan to appear in the next INI CET cycle (January 2027), or have decided not to pursue PG at an INI this year |
If you choose Option 2 in Round 1: AIIMS applies your locked list to Round 2. If a seat ranked higher on your list is available in Round 2, it is allotted to you and your Round 1 seat is cancelled simultaneously. If no better option is found, your Round 1 allotment is retained. You must then freeze and report to the institute holding your allotment by the Round 2 reporting deadline of July 16, 2026.
If you choose Option 1 in Round 1: Report to the allotted institute between June 25–30, 2026 with all original documents or Rs. 3 lakh security deposit. Your INI CET July 2026 Counselling participation ends after reporting; you are not considered for Round 2 or the Open Round.
If you withdraw after accepting a seat, the seat acceptance fee is not fully refunded — confirm the exact forfeiture rules in the AIIMS INI CET July 2026 Counselling Notification before making this decision.
As a practical rule: students whose Round 1 allotment falls well below their top preferences (choice 6 or lower) typically benefit from Option 2. Students allotted their 1st or 2nd preference are generally better served by Option 1 — freezing the seat eliminates the Rs. 3 lakh penalty risk with nothing meaningful to gain from upgrading.
FAQs about INI CET Counselling 2026
Ques: When does INI CET July 2026 Counselling Round 1 begin and end?
Ans: INI CET July 2026 Counselling Round 1 choice filling and locking opened on June 16, 2026 and closes on June 17, 2026 at aiimsexams.ac.in. The Round 1 seat allotment result is expected on June 24, 2026, and students who receive an allotment must complete acceptance and report to the institute by June 30, 2026.
Ques: Who conducts INI CET Counselling and for which institutes?
Ans: AIIMS New Delhi conducts INI CET Counselling centrally for all Institutes of National Importance. Participating institutes include all major AIIMS campuses (New Delhi, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Rishikesh, Nagpur, Raebareli, Gorakhpur, Bathinda, Kalyani, Mangalagiri, Rajkot, Bibinagar, Deoghar, Bilaspur, and Jammu), along with JIPMER Puducherry, PGIMER Chandigarh, NIMHANS Bengaluru, and SCTIMST Thiruvananthapuram. All registration, choice filling, and allotment activities happen at aiimsexams.ac.in.
Ques: Do I need to re-fill choices for Round 2 in INI CET Counselling?
Ans: No — and this is the feature that most distinguishes INI CET from other PG counselling processes. Round 2 uses the identical preference list you locked during Round 1. No additions, deletions, or reordering are permitted between rounds. AIIMS automatically applies your locked list for Round 2 allotments for all students who chose Option 2. The practical implication is that building the most comprehensive, correctly ranked list in Round 1 is your only and best strategy — there is no second chance to revise preferences.
Ques: How many choices should I fill in INI CET Counselling Round 1?
Ans: Fill at least 15–20 choices to maximise your chances across all rounds. Since your Round 1 list is also used for Round 2 with no changes, a broader and more carefully ordered list increases the probability of being upgraded to a better seat in Round 2 as well. List your most preferred institute-course combination first and work down in true preference order — the AIIMS algorithm allots you the highest-ranked option from your list for which a seat is available in your rank and category in each round.
Ques: What is the non-joining penalty in INI CET Counselling and when does it apply?
Ans: The non-joining penalty is Rs. 3 lakh, levied on students who chose Option 2 in Round 1 (or Round 2), received an upgraded seat in the subsequent round, but then failed to join that institute within the reporting deadline. The amount is forfeited to AIIMS and is not refundable under any circumstance. The penalty does not apply to Option 1 students (who freeze and report directly) or to students who formally withdraw before receiving any allotment.
Ques: Is there a state domicile quota in INI CET Counselling?
Ans: No. All seats at Institutes of National Importance under INI CET are filled on a purely All India merit basis within each reservation category. There is no state domicile quota — students from any state can apply for a seat at any participating AIIMS campus or other INI. The only institute-specific quotas that exist are for sponsored / in-service students at select institutes (PGIMER, NIMHANS, SCTIMST), and those are still merit-based within the sponsored category rather than domicile-based.
Ques: What documents are mandatory when reporting to the allotted institute?
Ans: At reporting, carry originals and self-attested photocopies of these essential documents:
- INI CET July 2026 Allotment Letter and Offer / Joining Letter
- MBBS / BDS Degree or Provisional Degree Certificate
- MBBS / BDS Mark Sheets (all professional examinations)
- Internship Completion Certificate
- NMC / DCI Permanent Registration Certificate
- Category certificate (OBC-NCL / SC / ST / EWS / PwD) if applicable
- Valid photo identity proof (Aadhaar / Passport / Voter ID)
- Recent passport-size photographs (minimum 6)
Additionally, you must either submit original documents to the institute as security or pay Rs. 3 lakh as a monetary security deposit in lieu of originals at the time of reporting.
Ques: How is INI CET Counselling different from NEET PG Counselling?
Ans: INI CET and NEET PG are entirely separate admission processes. INI CET, conducted by AIIMS New Delhi, covers PG admissions exclusively at Institutes of National Importance (AIIMS campuses, JIPMER, PGIMER, NIMHANS, SCTIMST). NEET PG, conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), covers all other state and central government medical colleges. The two exams have separate schedules, separate portals, and no cross-applicability of ranks — you must participate in each process independently if you appeared in both exams.
Ques: Can I participate in the Open Round if I missed Rounds 1 and 2?
Ans: Eligibility for the Open Round depends on the specific conditions AIIMS announces in the Open Round notification. In some past INI CET sessions, the Open Round accepted fresh registrations from all qualified students who did not participate in Rounds 1 and 2. In other sessions it was restricted to students already within the counselling process. Monitor aiimsexams.ac.in when the Open Round schedule is published (expected July–August 2026) to confirm eligibility and registration requirements for that round.
Ques: What happens if I do not lock my choices before the Round 1 deadline?
Ans: If you do not lock your choices by the closing time on June 17, 2026, you will not be considered for Round 1 seat allotment. The AIIMS system processes only submitted and locked preference lists — an unsaved or unlocked draft is ignored entirely. Depending on AIIMS’s Open Round conditions, you may still be able to participate in the Open Round. There are no extensions to the choice filling deadline.
Note: The Round 1 choice filling window closes on June 17, 2026. Portal traffic near the deadline often causes login and submission delays. Lock your choices well before the cutoff — do not wait until the last few hours.
