The CA Final pass rate for both groups together is typically between 10–15%, making it one of India’s toughest professional qualifying exams. January sessions tend to show slightly higher pass rates than May or November sessions — January candidates are fewer in number and usually more focused in their preparation.
The CA Foundation pass rate ranges between 14–22% across sessions. January sessions generally show higher rates (19–21%) compared to May and September (14–16%), reflecting the difference in candidate preparedness between the two cohorts.
ICAI Articleship and Practical Training 2026
The ICAI articleship — also called practical training — is a mandatory and central part of the CA course. You cannot appear for the CA Final exam without completing it. Articleship provides real-world exposure to accounting, auditing, taxation, and finance under the supervision of a practising Chartered Accountant.
Key Articleship Requirements
- Duration: 2 years of mandatory practical training under a practising CA or a CA firm
- You can start articleship after clearing at least one group of CA Intermediate
- You must complete the ICITSS (Orientation and IT Course) before starting articleship
- Articleship must be completed before the date of filling the CA Final exam form
- Candidates serving the last 6 months of articleship (including any excess leave) as of the first day of the exam month are also eligible to apply for CA Final
- Any leave beyond 12 days per year is treated as excess leave and extends your articleship period proportionally
Advanced ICITSS (Mandatory Before CA Final)
- Advanced IT Course: Builds advanced technology and data analytics skills
- Management and Communication Skills (MCS): Develops leadership, presentation, and soft skills
- Both must be completed before you appear for the CA Final exam
Articleship Stipend 2026
| Year of Articleship | Min. Stipend (Cities below 4 lakh population) | Min. Stipend (Other cities) |
|---|---|---|
| 1st Year | ₹1,000 per month | ₹2,000 per month |
| 2nd Year | ₹1,500 per month | ₹2,500 per month |
These are ICAI-prescribed minimum stipends. In practice, Big 4 accounting firms and large CA firms in metro cities pay ₹15,000–₹30,000 per month to articleship trainees. The actual stipend depends on the firm, city, and your CA Intermediate performance.
Important: Track your leave carefully during articleship. Any leave beyond 12 days per year extends your training duration by the same number of extra days. An extended articleship period delays your CA Final eligibility.
ICAI CA Exam Fee 2026
The ICAI CA exam fee 2026 covers two components: a one-time registration fee when you first enroll at each level, and a per-session exam form fee paid before every attempt. The total course investment across all three levels is approximately ₹87,300 (including all training costs).
| Level | Registration Fee (One-time) | Exam Form Fee — Single Group | Exam Form Fee — Both Groups / All Papers | Late Fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CA Foundation | ₹9,000 | — | ₹1,500 | ₹600 |
| CA Intermediate | ₹13,000 (Single) / ₹18,000 (Both) | ₹1,500 | ₹2,700 | ₹600 |
| CA Final | ₹22,000 (valid 10 years) | ₹1,800 | ₹3,300 | ₹600 |
- CA Foundation total first-time cost (Prospectus ₹200 + Registration ₹9,000 + Exam Form ₹1,500): Around ₹11,300
- CA Final registration fee of ₹22,000 is a one-time payment valid for 10 years — you do not pay it again for each attempt within those 10 years
- International candidates pay $550 for the CA Final exam form (both groups)
- Candidates appearing from Kathmandu centres pay ₹2,200 extra for Foundation and Intermediate
- All fees are paid online via the SSP portal (Net Banking, UPI, Debit/Credit Card)

Preparation Tips for ICAI CA Exam 2026
Clearing the ICAI CA exam needs structured, consistent preparation over months. With Foundation pass rates around 15–20% and CA Final rates under 15%, success comes from concept clarity, disciplined revision, and smart exam strategy — not just coverage.
Tips for CA Foundation Preparation
- Start with ICAI Study Material: Foundation questions are drawn almost entirely from ICAI’s official Study Material and Practice Manual. Master these before anything else
- Practice MCQs daily for Papers 3 and 4: Quantitative Aptitude and Business Economics are objective — speed and accuracy come only with regular timed practice sets
- Solve 5 years of past papers and MTPs: ICAI releases Mock Test Papers (MTPs) and past exam papers on its website. These are the best indicators of the expected question format and difficulty level
- Watch your time in objective papers: Papers 3 and 4 are only 2 hours each. Practice completing the full paper within the time limit — do not spend more than 2 minutes on any single MCQ
- Accounting (Paper 1) needs problem practice, not just theory: Reading journal entry rules is not enough — solve problems every day to build speed and accuracy
Tips for CA Intermediate Preparation
- Do not neglect any paper: You need 40% in each individual paper AND 50% aggregate. Ignoring even one weak paper puts your group pass at risk
- Taxation is the highest-impact subject: Paper 3 covers both Income Tax and GST. Tax laws change every year — always use the ICAI material for the current assessment year, not old notes
- Plan across all 6 papers simultaneously: If appearing for both groups, rotate your daily study plan across all 6 papers so no subject loses revision in the last month
- Use ICAI Practice Manuals for Auditing and Law: Papers 2 (Corporate Laws) and 5 (Auditing) are purely reading-based. The ICAI Practice Manual has exam-style questions — use it from month one, not just the last week
Tips for CA Final Preparation
- Start preparation during the last 6 months of articleship: Most toppers begin Final preparation while still doing articleship. Use your daily client exposure to understand how theoretical concepts apply in practice — it makes revision faster and deeper
- Paper 6 (IBS) needs a different strategy: This case study-based paper is 4 hours long and integrates all subjects. Practice with full-length mock cases under timed conditions — reading time management is critical
- No negative marking in Final MCQs — attempt all: Unlike Foundation and Intermediate, CA Final MCQs carry no negative marking. Never leave any MCQ unanswered, even if you are guessing
- Complete SPOM modules early: Set A and Set B each take 40+ hours. If you leave them to the last 2–3 months, they will eat into your exam preparation time. Target completing SPOM 4–5 months before your exam date
- Prioritise revision over fresh coverage: Most CA Final rank holders recommend 4–5 complete revisions of core subjects rather than attempting to read new material in the final 2 months
