APJEE 2026 (Arunachal Pradesh Joint Entrance Examination) is the state-level selection process conducted by the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, for admission to 3-year Diploma programmes at state polytechnic colleges. In a major change for the 2026-27 academic session, DHTE issued a non-conduct circular on 11 March 2026, keeping the APJEE Diploma entrance examination in abeyance — admissions this year are based entirely on Class X merit. The APJEE 2026 Diploma merit list was released on 5 June 2026, and Round 1 seat allotment is scheduled for 16 June 2026.
- Round 1 Seat Allotment: APJEE 2026 first round seat allotment is scheduled for 16 June 2026. Candidates who appear in the diploma merit list and locked their preferences before 30 May 2026 will receive seat offers based on Class X merit rank and college-branch choice order.
- Document Verification: After Round 1 allotment, shortlisted candidates must complete document verification at the allotted polytechnic. Carry originals of your Class X marksheet, PRC or domicile certificate, and category certificate. In 2025, this step was completed within 7–10 days of allotment.
- Round 2 Seat Allotment: A second allotment round is expected in early July 2026 to fill seats vacated by candidates who do not confirm after Round 1. Candidates who chose to "float" remain automatically eligible. Exact dates will be announced on apjee.co.in after Round 1 closes.
- Reporting and Admission: After seat confirmation and document verification, candidates must report to their allotted polytechnic and pay the admission fees within the stipulated deadline. In 2025, final reporting deadlines for diploma admissions fell in late July. Watch the portal for the exact date for 2026.
What is APJEE 2026?
APJEE — Arunachal Pradesh Joint Entrance Examination — is the official state-level selection and nomination process managed by the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Technical Education (APSCTE) under the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar. It selects and nominates eligible state candidates to technical and professional diploma courses at government polytechnics in Arunachal Pradesh, and to reserved seats in colleges across India offered by the Government of India, the North Eastern Council, and partner universities.
APJEE 2026 covers admission to 3-year Diploma programmes in engineering, pharmacy, and hotel management. For the 2026-27 session, DHTE issued a non-conduct circular and replaced the written entrance exam with a Class X merit-based process. The diploma merit list was released on 5 June 2026, and seat allotment begins on 16 June 2026.

APJEE is the primary gateway for Arunachal Pradesh students seeking technical diploma education in state-run polytechnics. The process reserves a large majority of seats for APST (Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe) candidates, with around 20% open to Non-APST residents of the state who meet domicile conditions. APJEE does not cover degree-level (B.Tech) admissions — those go through JEE Main and JoSAA — and it has no role in MBBS or other medical admissions, which require NEET.
APJEE 2026 Non-Conduct Circular: Key Changes
APJEE 2026 marks the most significant structural change in the examination’s recent history. DHTE issued an official Circular on Non-Conduct of APJEE 2026 dated 11 March 2026, keeping the Diploma entrance examination in abeyance from the 2026-27 academic session "till further orders." This means no written entrance test, no admit card, and no exam-based score. All diploma admissions for 2026 are based on candidates’ Class X board marks.
No written entrance examination has been conducted for APJEE 2026 Diploma admissions. Selection is entirely based on Class X board marks as per the official non-conduct circular issued on 11 March 2026.
Here is what changed for 2026 compared to previous years:
- No Entrance Test: DHTE kept the APJEE Diploma exam in abeyance for 2026-27. No exam hall, no admit card, and no test-based ranking.
- Merit Based on Class X: The authority prepares the merit list using the best five subjects in a candidate’s Class X board results. For Diploma in Engineering courses, English, Mathematics, and Science are compulsory and must be included in the five subjects counted.
- Tie-Breaking Criteria: If two candidates score the same Class X aggregate, the combined score in Maths + Science breaks the tie. If still equal, Maths marks alone are used. Then Science marks alone. Finally, the older candidate ranks higher.
- Category System Unchanged: Separate merit lists are still prepared for Category-I (APST) and Category-II (Non-APST/Open) candidates, just as in past years.
- Merit List Released: The APJEE 2026 Diploma merit list was released on 5 June 2026.
- Online Counselling Continues: The seat allotment and counselling process remains fully online through apjee.co.in, starting with Round 1 on 16 June 2026.
This circular applies specifically to the Diploma category of APJEE. Degree-level admissions through JEE Main (NIT Arunachal Pradesh via JoSAA and CSAB-NEUT) and medical admissions through NEET are not affected. DHTE’s "till further orders" language means the 2027 cycle may or may not restore the written exam — a fresh official announcement will confirm the approach for next year.

APJEE 2026 Eligibility Criteria
APJEE 2026 eligibility rests on three pillars: Class X qualification, age, and domicile in Arunachal Pradesh. Since admissions are merit-based this year, your Class X marks and domicile status are the two factors that directly determine your merit position and eligibility for counselling.
Basic Academic and Age Requirements
- You must be an Indian national.
- You must have passed Class X from a recognised board with a minimum of 35% aggregate marks.
- English, Mathematics, and Science are compulsory for Diploma in Engineering courses. Students without these subjects in Class X cannot be ranked for engineering streams.
- You must be between 15 and 21 years of age as of 31 December 2026.
- You must hold a valid PRC (Permanent Resident Certificate) issued in Arunachal Pradesh or meet the domicile conditions specified for Category-II.
Category-wise Eligibility
| Category | Who Can Apply |
|---|---|
| Category-I (APST) | All APST (Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe) candidates who passed Class X. Also includes children of APST employees of State Government, Central Government, or Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) posted in Arunachal Pradesh. |
| Category-II (Non-APST / Open) | Children of Non-APST employees of State Government, Central Government, or CPSUs posted in Arunachal Pradesh. Also includes other residents who have continuously lived in Arunachal Pradesh for 3 or more years and passed Class X from a school within the state. |
Seat Reservation Between Categories
In most diploma branches at state polytechnics, around 80% of seats are reserved for Category-I (APST) candidates. The remaining 20% are available for Category-II (Non-APST/Open) candidates. For certain quota seats offered under North Eastern Council and GoI arrangements, the APST reservation can reach 100%. This means APST candidates have significantly more seat options at the same merit rank.
If you do not hold a valid PRC or do not meet the 3-year continuous domicile condition in Arunachal Pradesh, you cannot be considered for APJEE 2026 admission regardless of your Class X marks.
APJEE 2026 Important Dates

APJEE 2026 Diploma Merit List: Basis and How It Is Prepared
The APJEE 2026 Diploma merit list was released on 5 June 2026. Since no entrance test was held this year, the list is entirely based on Class X board performance — a significant departure from past years when a written exam score determined the rank.
Merit Calculation Method
The authority uses the best five subjects from a candidate’s Class X board results to compute the merit score. For Diploma in Engineering courses, English, Mathematics, and Science are compulsory and must be among the five subjects counted. Candidates who did not study any of these subjects in Class X cannot be ranked for engineering diploma streams.
Tie-Breaking Criteria
| Tie-Breaking Round | Criterion Applied |
|---|---|
| 1st tie-breaker | Combined marks in Mathematics + Science |
| 2nd tie-breaker | Marks in Mathematics alone |
| 3rd tie-breaker | Marks in Science alone |
| 4th tie-breaker | Age — the older candidate ranks higher |
Tie-breakers are applied in order. Each criterion is used only if the previous one produces a tie. This makes strong performance in Mathematics and Science the most critical factor for a good APJEE 2026 rank, beyond overall aggregate.
Separate Category-wise Merit Lists
DHTE prepares two separate merit lists:
- Category-I Merit List: For APST candidates applying under the APST reservation. Seat allotment for Category-I seats uses this list exclusively.
- Category-II Merit List: For Non-APST / Open category candidates. The roughly 20% open seats are allotted from this list.
A candidate appears in only one list based on the category under which they applied. Switching categories after the application window closes is not permitted.
How to Check the APJEE 2026 Merit List
- Visit apjee.co.in and log in with your registration number and password.
- Navigate to the "Merit List" or "Rank Card" section on your dashboard.
- Download and print your rank card. Keep it ready for document verification and reporting at the allotted college.
Candidates listed in the merit list are eligible for Round 1 seat allotment on 16 June 2026. If your name is not in the list, you were not shortlisted — this can happen due to document rejection, ineligibility, or marks below the cutoff rank for your category. Contact the DHTE helpdesk immediately if you believe there is an error in your position.
Check your merit list status now at apjee.co.in. Only candidates listed in the merit list can participate in seat allotment on 16 June 2026. Raise any error with the authority before the allotment date — disputes after allotment are harder to resolve.
APJEE 2026 Seat Allotment and Counselling Process
APJEE 2026 seat allotment is fully online through apjee.co.in. Only candidates listed in the merit list can participate. Round 1 is on 16 June 2026. Here is how the complete counselling process works from allotment to final admission.
Counselling Steps
- Step 1 — Verify Merit List Status: Log in to apjee.co.in and confirm your name appears in the Category-I or Category-II merit list released on 5 June 2026. Your merit rank is the primary factor in which seat you get.
- Step 2 — Review the Seat Matrix: Before 16 June, check the seat matrix on the portal to see how many seats are available in each course and college for your category. This helps gauge how realistic your locked preferences are for your rank.
- Step 3 — Round 1 Allotment (16 June 2026): The system automatically assigns the best available seat matching your locked preferences, based on merit rank, category, and seat availability. Your allotment letter is generated on the portal on this date.
- Step 4 — Accept, Float, or Withdraw: After receiving your Round 1 offer, you choose one of three options. If you accept, your seat is confirmed and you pay the security deposit. If you float, you keep the current seat and remain eligible for a better option in Round 2. If you withdraw, you exit the process and lose your seat.
- Step 5 — Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must complete document verification — either online via portal upload or physically at the allotted institution as directed. Original documents must match what was submitted during application.
- Step 6 — Round 2 Allotment (expected 3 July 2026): Seats vacated by withdrawals and upgrade requests from Round 1 are re-allotted. Candidates who chose "float" participate automatically. Reporting window: expected 6–11 July 2026.
- Step 7 — Spot Round: If seats remain after all regular rounds, DHTE may hold a spot round. Format and date will be announced on the official portal.
- Step 8 — Report to Allotted College: After seat confirmation, report to the allotted polytechnic within the deadline. Pay admission fees and complete enrollment with original documents.
Key Points About the Allotment
- Locked preferences cannot be changed after 30 May 2026. The algorithm uses only these choices.
- Not responding to a Round 1 offer within the given window may result in automatic seat cancellation.
- Choosing "float" does not guarantee a better seat in Round 2 — it depends on vacancies and your rank relative to other floating candidates.
- Once you physically report to the allotted college and complete enrollment, withdrawal is generally not permitted.
Round 1 allotment is on 16 June 2026. Log in to apjee.co.in on that date, check your allotment letter, and respond within the window. Missing the response deadline can result in your seat being cancelled and offered to the next-ranked candidate.
APJEE 2026 Participating Colleges and Available Courses
APJEE 2026 fills seats at government polytechnic colleges in Arunachal Pradesh. The process also nominates candidates to seats reserved for Arunachal Pradesh residents in institutions across India under GoI and North Eastern Council quota arrangements.
Government Polytechnic Colleges in Arunachal Pradesh

Not every branch is offered at every polytechnic. The exact seat matrix — showing branch-wise seat counts split by Category-I and Category-II at each college — is published on apjee.co.in during the seat allotment phase. Review this before choosing preferences so your selections are realistic for your merit rank.
Out-of-State Nominee Seats
Beyond state polytechnics, APJEE nominates Arunachal Pradesh candidates to seats in technical institutions across India. These are offered through the Government of India, the North Eastern Council, and partner institutions under quota agreements. The specific programmes and colleges available under this route are listed in the official APJEE notification on apdhte.nic.in each year. Candidates interested in out-of-state placements must include these as preferences during the filling window.
Seat Distribution by Category
Around 80% of seats in most diploma branches at state polytechnics are reserved for Category-I (APST) candidates. The remaining 20% go to Category-II (Non-APST) candidates. For certain NEC and GoI quota seats, the APST share can reach 100%. At the same merit rank, an APST candidate therefore has significantly more seat options than a Non-APST candidate.
Documents Required for APJEE 2026 Admission
You need all documents in order before Round 1 allotment on 16 June 2026. Document verification is mandatory for confirming your seat. Missing or incorrect documents can lead to cancellation of your allotment even after the merit rank has been assigned.
- Class X Marksheet: Original and self-attested photocopy of your Class X board marksheet showing subject-wise marks. This is the primary document used to prepare the merit list.
- Class X Passing Certificate: Original certificate from your school or board confirming you passed Class X.
- Class XII Marksheet (if applicable): For candidates who have already passed Class XII. Some quota seats may require it.
- PRC (Permanent Resident Certificate): Valid PRC issued by the competent authority in Arunachal Pradesh. Mandatory for all candidates without exception.
- Domicile Certificate (for Category-II without PRC): Certificate showing at least 3 years of continuous residence in Arunachal Pradesh for Non-APST residents applying under Category-II.
- Category Certificate: APST or relevant community certificate issued by the competent authority. Mandatory for Category-I candidates.
- Parent’s Government Service Certificate (if applicable): Service certificate of a parent employed in State or Central Government or a CPSU posted in Arunachal Pradesh, for candidates applying under that sub-category.
- Passport-size Photographs: Recent colour photographs with a white background. Carry at least 6 copies for application, verification, and enrollment formalities.
- Valid Photo ID Proof: Aadhaar card, passport, or any government-issued photo identity document.
- APJEE Registration Receipt: Printout of the completed APJEE 2026 application or the registration confirmation from apjee.co.in.
- Seat Allotment Letter: Printed copy of the allotment letter generated on apjee.co.in after Round 1 or the applicable round.
Always carry originals along with self-attested photocopies. The institution inspects originals but retains photocopies during enrollment. Do not permanently surrender original certificates at document verification — keep them for future use.
If any document submitted during the application stage is found to be incorrect or forged during physical verification, your admission will be cancelled. Verify all documents carefully before submission.
APJEE 2025 vs APJEE 2026: Key Differences
APJEE 2026 differs significantly from 2025 due to the non-conduct circular. This comparison helps current candidates understand what changed and helps future applicants plan for the next cycle.
| Aspect | APJEE 2025 | APJEE 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Written Entrance Test | Yes — conducted as a written exam | No — non-conduct circular issued on 11 March 2026 |
| Basis of Admission | Entrance exam score | Class X merit (best five subjects) |
| Admit Card | Yes — released before the exam | Not applicable — no exam conducted |
| Merit List Released | 1 June 2025 | 5 June 2026 |
| Tie-Breaking | Exam score differences | Maths + Science combined, then Maths, then Science, then age |
| Round 1 Seat Allotment | Post-result (June–July 2025) | 16 June 2026 |
| Registration Fee — APST | Rs 500 | Rs 500 (unchanged) |
| Registration Fee — Non-APST | Rs 700 | Rs 700 (unchanged) |
| Minimum Class X Qualification | 35% aggregate | 35% aggregate (unchanged) |
| Counselling Mode | Online via apjee.co.in | Online via apjee.co.in (unchanged) |
| Category Structure | Category-I (APST) and Category-II (Non-APST) | Category-I (APST) and Category-II (Non-APST) — unchanged |
The shift to merit-based selection removes any benefit from entrance exam preparation. It places full weight on Class X board performance — students who scored strongly in Mathematics and Science have a direct advantage in the 2026 merit ranking. The rank gap between candidates with similar aggregates is often decided at the Maths + Science tie-breaker level, making those two subjects the most important.
The "till further orders" language in the DHTE circular means the 2027 cycle format has not yet been confirmed. Students currently in Class X — the cohort applying in 2027 — should watch apdhte.nic.in from January 2027 for an official announcement on whether the written exam returns or the merit-based route continues.
Tips for Future APJEE Applicants
If you plan to apply for APJEE in the next academic cycle, here is what you should focus on. These tips cover both the 2026 merit-based model and the scenario where a written exam returns for 2027.
If APJEE Continues as Merit-Based
- Prioritise Mathematics and Science in Class X: These subjects are the primary tie-breakers in the APJEE merit list. A single mark difference in Maths or Science can shift your rank by dozens of positions when many candidates share similar aggregates. Aim for 90% or higher in both subjects.
- Do Not Neglect English: English is compulsory for engineering diploma courses in the best-five calculation. A weak English score lowers your aggregate and directly reduces your merit rank.
- Focus on Overall Board Performance: Since Class X marks are the only criterion, every subject in your best five matters. Do not drop or neglect any subject during board preparation.
- Start Document Collection Early: PRC, category certificate, and parent service certificate take time to obtain from government offices. Begin this process as soon as Class X results are declared in May — do not wait for the APJEE notification to open.
- Know Your Category Before Applying: Applying under the wrong category leads to rejection. Verify your category status with the DHTE office before the registration window opens.
If the Written Exam Returns for APJEE 2027
- Cover Class X Maths and Science Thoroughly: Past APJEE written tests were based on Class X-level topics. Your board preparation already covers most of this content, but practising previous-year APJEE questions helps with exam-specific patterns and question formats.
- Practise Under Timed Conditions: The written APJEE was time-bounded with MCQ questions. Regular timed practice builds accuracy and reduces careless errors on exam day.
- Rely Only on Official Notifications: Do not base your preparation timeline on third-party sources. Check apdhte.nic.in directly for the official syllabus, dates, and application schedule.
Applicable for All Future Cycles
- Apply Before the Deadline: APJEE 2026 closed on 30 May 2026 at midnight. Technical errors or last-minute document rejections on deadline day can cost you a seat for the year. Apply at least 7–10 days early.
- Add Multiple College-Branch Preferences: During the filling window, add every combination you would realistically accept. Fewer choices mean fewer options if your top preferences go to higher-ranked candidates.
- Monitor the Portal During Counselling: Allotment results, response windows, and round dates appear only on apjee.co.in. Missing a response window can result in automatic seat cancellation.
- Plan Degree Routes Separately: APJEE Diploma is not a path to a B.Tech degree. Prepare for JEE Main independently if you want degree engineering. You can pursue lateral entry into a 3rd-year B.Tech programme after completing the diploma, but that requires a separate admission process.
