APJEE 2026 (Arunachal Pradesh Joint Entrance Examination) is a state-level diploma admission process conducted by the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, offering seats in 3-year diploma programmes at five government polytechnics across the state. In a landmark change for the 2026-27 academic session, DHTE cancelled the written entrance test via an official circular dated March 11, 2026, and moved to a purely Class X merit-based selection. The Round 1 seat allotment for APJEE Diploma 2026 has been released today, June 16, 2026, and all allotted candidates must now report to their polytechnic between June 17 and June 26, 2026.
- Round 1 Reporting: APJEE 2026 Round 1 seat allotment was released on June 16, 2026. Allotted candidates must report to their polytechnic from June 17 to June 26, 2026 with all original documents for verification and admission fee payment.
- Round 2 Seat Allotment: Round 2 allotment is expected on July 3, 2026 for seats that fall vacant after Round 1 non-reporting or withdrawals. Round 2 reporting is expected from July 6 to July 11, 2026.
- Mop-up Round: A mop-up or spot-counselling round is expected in late July 2026 to fill remaining seats across all five government polytechnics in Arunachal Pradesh after Round 2.
- Documents for Reporting: You must bring your original Class X marksheet, PRC or domicile certificate, category certificate, APJEE 2026 registration receipt, and the Round 1 allotment letter during the June 17–26, 2026 reporting window. Carry at least two sets of photocopies of every document.
What is APJEE 2026?
APJEE stands for the Arunachal Pradesh Joint Entrance Examination. It is the official state-level selection process managed by the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE), Government of Arunachal Pradesh, under the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Technical Education (APSCTE). APJEE gives admission to 3-year diploma programmes at government polytechnic colleges across Arunachal Pradesh for the academic session 2026-27.
APJEE covers diploma courses in engineering branches — Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering — as well as non-engineering programmes like Pharmacy, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, and Fashion Technology. All participating colleges are government institutions under DHTE, making APJEE the primary gateway to publicly funded technical education in Arunachal Pradesh.
More than 80% of seats in most APJEE programmes are reserved for Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (APST) candidates. This makes APJEE primarily significant for tribal students from the state, though Non-APST candidates who meet domicile conditions can also apply for the remaining open-category seats. APJEE does not cover B.Tech degree admissions — those go through JEE Main and JoSAA — and it has no role in MBBS or other medical admissions, which require NEET.

APJEE 2026: No Entrance Test — Key Change This Year
The biggest development for APJEE 2026 is that the written entrance examination has been cancelled for the 2026-27 academic session. On March 11, 2026, DHTE issued an official circular placing the APJEE diploma entrance examination "in abeyance." This means no written test was conducted, no admit card was issued, and there were no exam centres or answer keys for 2026.
Admission to all diploma programmes for 2026-27 is based entirely on candidates’ performance in their Class X board examinations. DHTE prepared a common merit list using marks from the best five subjects in each candidate’s Class X results. All eligible candidates who applied online by the May 30, 2026 deadline and submitted their institution preferences by June 12, 2026 were ranked for seat allotment.
The official circular states the APJEE entrance examination is cancelled "till further orders." The format of APJEE 2027 has not yet been confirmed. Monitor apdhte.nic.in regularly for any announcement about next year’s admission process.
What Changed in APJEE 2026 Compared to Previous Years?
- No written APJEE exam — no MCQ paper, no admit card, no exam centres for 2026
- Merit list prepared on Class X marks (best five subjects) instead of an entrance test score
- All eligible applicants who submitted preferences by June 12, 2026 are automatically ranked in the merit list
- Seat allocation is done fully online based on merit rank, category, and the preference order each candidate locked in
- Tie-breaking uses combined Math + Science scores first, then Math alone, then Science alone, and finally age — the older candidate ranks higher in a tie
- Registration fee structure, domicile requirements, and category structure remain unchanged from previous years

APJEE 2026 Merit List
Since no written entrance examination was held in 2026, DHTE prepared the merit list purely on Class X board examination performance. The APJEE 2026 final merit list was released on June 9, 2026 at apdhte.nic.in. Candidates can check their merit rank by logging in to the application portal with their registration credentials.
How is the APJEE 2026 Merit Calculated?
Your rank in the APJEE 2026 merit list depends on the marks you scored in your best five subjects in the Class X board results. The authority adds the marks from the top five scoring subjects and prepares the rank list in descending order of the total. For Diploma in Engineering courses, English, Mathematics, and Science must be among the five subjects counted.
If two or more candidates have identical total marks, the tie is broken in this order:
- First: Combined marks in Mathematics and Science — the candidate with higher combined Maths + Science marks ranks higher
- Second: Mathematics marks alone — if still tied after first criterion
- Third: Science marks alone — if still tied after second criterion
- Final: Age — the older candidate ranks higher if all other criteria are equal
Separate Merit Lists for Each Category
DHTE prepares two separate merit lists:
- Category-I Merit List — ranks only APST candidates; used to fill the approximately 80% of seats reserved for APST
- Category-II Merit List — ranks Non-APST candidates; used to fill the approximately 20% open category seats
Your merit list rank determines which institutes and courses you can be allotted. A higher rank gives you a better chance of getting your first or second preference. The actual closing rank for each college and branch depends on total applicants and available seats per category — DHTE does not pre-announce branch-wise cutoff ranks.
APJEE 2026 Seat Allotment and Counselling
The APJEE 2026 counselling and seat allotment process is conducted fully online by DHTE. Seats are allotted in multiple rounds based on merit rank, category, and the preference order each candidate locked in before June 12, 2026. The Round 1 seat allotment was released today, June 16, 2026. Reporting begins tomorrow, June 17.
APJEE 2026 Counselling Schedule
| Round | Allotment Date | Reporting / Admission Period | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | June 16, 2026 | June 17 – June 26, 2026 | Released Today |
| Round 2 | July 3, 2026 (Expected) | July 6 – July 11, 2026 (Expected) | Upcoming |
| Mop-up / Spot Round | Late July 2026 (Expected) | To be announced | Upcoming |
How to Check the APJEE 2026 Round 1 Seat Allotment
- Visit apdhte.nic.in and log in to your registered account
- Navigate to the seat allotment or counselling section of your candidate dashboard
- Your allotment letter shows the allotted institute, course, category, and the reporting deadline
- Download and print the allotment letter — you must carry a printout when reporting to the polytechnic
What to Do After Round 1 Allotment
After seeing your Round 1 allotment result, you have three options available through the portal:
- Accept: Confirm your allotted seat. You must then report to the allotted polytechnic between June 17 and June 26, 2026, pay the admission fee, and submit documents for verification
- Float: Keep your current allotted seat secure while remaining in the pool for a better option in Round 2. If Round 2 gives you a higher-preference seat, your Round 1 seat is released automatically. If not, your Round 1 seat stays confirmed
- Withdraw: Exit the counselling process entirely. Your seat goes back to the common pool for Round 2. This choice is final — you cannot re-enter after withdrawing
If you receive a Round 1 allotment but neither respond through the portal nor report by June 26, 2026, your seat will be cancelled automatically. You will not be considered in Round 2. Always choose Accept or Float before the June 26 deadline — even if you are undecided, selecting Float keeps your options open.
Round 2 and Mop-up Round
Round 2 allotment (expected July 3, 2026) fills seats vacated by Round 1 withdrawals and non-reporting candidates. The mop-up round, expected in late July 2026, fills any seats still vacant after Round 2. DHTE may also conduct a physical spot-admission round at the institute level for remaining seats. Check apdhte.nic.in for the official Round 2 and mop-up schedule once it is published.
APJEE Participating Colleges and Courses
APJEE 2026 admission covers five government polytechnic colleges in Arunachal Pradesh. All are fully government-run institutions under DHTE. Here are the participating colleges:
| College | Location |
|---|---|
| Arunachal Pradesh Polytechnic | Laying |
| Government Polytechnic | Dirang (West Kameng) |
| Government Polytechnic | Namsai |
| Government Polytechnic | Roing (Lower Dibang Valley) |
| Government Polytechnic | Pasighat (East Siang) |
Not all courses are available at all five polytechnics. Each college offers a different combination of diploma branches depending on its infrastructure and approved intake. Check the APJEE 2026 information brochure at apdhte.nic.in for the branch-wise seat matrix showing exactly how many seats each college has per course and per category.
Diploma Courses Available Through APJEE 2026
| Diploma Programme | Duration | Qualifying Exam Required |
|---|---|---|
| Civil Engineering | 3 years | Class X with Maths and Science |
| Electrical Engineering | 3 years | Class X with Maths and Science |
| Mechanical Engineering | 3 years | Class X with Maths and Science |
| Electronics and Communication Engineering | 3 years | Class X with Maths and Science |
| Computer Science and Engineering | 3 years | Class X with Maths and Science |
| Pharmacy | 3 years | Class XII (PCB or PCM) |
| Hotel Management and Catering Technology | 3 years | Class XII from recognised board |
| Fashion Technology | 3 years | Class X from recognised board |
After completing a 3-year diploma from an APJEE polytechnic, you become eligible to apply for lateral entry into the 2nd year of B.Tech programmes at engineering colleges across India. This is a popular path for diploma holders who want to upgrade to a degree-level qualification later without starting a 4-year B.Tech from scratch.
APJEE 2026 Seat Reservation Policy
APJEE follows the reservation policy of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. Since Arunachal Pradesh is a tribal-majority state, the APST (Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe) reservation in diploma seats is very high — around 80% in most programmes. You should understand your category clearly before applying so your preference choices are realistic.
| Category | Description | Approximate Seat Share |
|---|---|---|
| Category-I (APST) | Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe candidates with a valid and current PRC | Around 80% of total seats |
| Category-II (Non-APST / Open) | Non-APST candidates meeting domicile requirements — children of state/central govt employees or long-term residents of the state | Around 20% of total seats |
In some specific courses at certain polytechnics, the APST share may be even higher. Sub-reservations within Category-I for specific tribal groups or geographical areas may also apply as per state government notifications for 2026-27. The exact seat matrix for each college and course is in the APJEE 2026 information brochure at apdhte.nic.in.
If you are a Category-II (Non-APST) candidate, very few seats are available and competition is high. Your merit rank needs to be among the top scorers in Category-II to secure a seat in a popular branch like Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
Within Category-I, your valid PRC must clearly identify you as an APST member. Expired, disputed, or incorrectly issued PRCs result in admission cancellation during document verification — even after seat allotment has been granted. Get your PRC renewed if needed before the reporting date.
APJEE Exam Pattern (Historical Reference)
Since the APJEE written entrance test has been placed in abeyance for 2026-27, this section provides a historical reference from previous years when the written exam was conducted. It is useful for students who may appear in a future APJEE written test if DHTE reinstates the examination from 2027 onwards.
| Parameter | Details (Previous Years) |
|---|---|
| Exam Mode | Offline — OMR-based pen-and-paper test |
| Duration | 2 hours |
| Total Questions | 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) |
| Subjects Covered | Mathematics and Science (Physics + Chemistry + Biology) |
| Marks for Correct Answer | +4 marks |
| Negative Marking | -1 mark per wrong answer |
| Total Marks | 600 |
| Language of Paper | English only |
| Question Level | Class 9 and Class 10 CBSE curriculum |
Subject-wise Question Distribution (Previous Years)
| Subject | Number of Questions | Maximum Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Mathematics | 75 | 300 |
| Science (Physics + Chemistry + Biology) | 75 | 300 |
| Total | 150 | 600 |
The APJEE paper focused entirely on Class 9-10 topics. There were no questions from Class 11 or 12 topics. This made NCERT textbooks for Class 9 and 10 the most important preparation resource. The -1 negative marking meant blind guessing was risky — you were advised to attempt only questions where you were reasonably confident.
APJEE Syllabus (Historical Reference)
The APJEE syllabus for previous years — when the written exam was held — was based on the Class 9 and Class 10 CBSE curriculum in Mathematics and Science. This is provided as a reference in case DHTE reinstates the entrance test for future cycles. For 2026 admissions, the syllabus is not applicable as there is no written exam this year.

Documents Required for APJEE 2026 Reporting
If you have been allotted a seat in APJEE 2026 Round 1, you must carry these documents when you report to your polytechnic during the June 17 – June 26, 2026 window. Carry originals along with at least two sets of photocopies of every document. The institute inspects originals but retains copies during enrollment.
- Class X Marksheet (Original) — used to verify marks and merit calculation
- Class X Passing Certificate (Original) — confirms you passed Class X from a recognised board
- Class XII Marksheet (Original) — only for candidates applying for Pharmacy or Hotel Management diploma
- Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) — original, valid, and current; mandatory for all APST candidates
- Domicile Certificate — for Category-II (Non-APST) candidates without PRC, showing 3+ years continuous residence in Arunachal Pradesh
- Category / Tribal Certificate (Original) — for APST candidates, issued by the competent authority
- Parent’s Government Service Certificate (if applicable) — for candidates applying as children of state or central government employees posted in Arunachal Pradesh
- APJEE 2026 Registration Receipt — printout of the completed application form confirmation
- Round 1 Seat Allotment Letter — printed copy of the allotment letter from the APJEE portal
- 6 Passport-Size Photographs — recent, colour, white background
- Valid Photo ID (Original) — Aadhaar card, school ID, or any government-issued photo identity document
Do not report without your original PRC or domicile certificate. Admission can be cancelled at the document verification stage if the domicile or category document is found to be invalid — even after seat allotment has been granted. Verify all documents before going to the institute.
Tips for Future APJEE Applicants
Since APJEE 2026 is merit-based with no written exam, the tips below address two groups: Class 9-10 students who want to maximise their Class X board marks for future merit-based APJEE cycles, and those who may face a reinstated written exam from 2027 if DHTE reverses its abeyance decision.
Maximising Class X Marks for Merit-Based Admission
- Prioritise Mathematics and Science above all else. These are the first and second tiebreakers in the APJEE merit rank. A 2-3 mark advantage in Maths + Science can move you ahead of many candidates with the same overall total
- Do not neglect English — it is a compulsory subject in the best-five count for engineering diploma courses. A weak English score lowers your aggregate directly
- Regular revision and timed practice before Class X boards helps you score higher. A single mark improvement in each of the five counted subjects can shift your APJEE rank significantly in a competitive merit list
- Start collecting domicile and category documents early. PRC and category certificates take time to obtain from government offices. Begin this process as soon as your Class X results are out in May — do not wait for the APJEE notification
Preparing for a Potential Written Exam (If Reinstated)
- Start with NCERT. The APJEE written exam was entirely based on Class 9 and 10 CBSE curriculum. Every question in previous papers traced back to NCERT concepts
- For Mathematics: focus on Algebra, Trigonometry, and Mensuration — these three topics together accounted for the largest share of marks in previous APJEE papers
- For Science Physics: memorise all formulas and their SI units — formula-based numericals are common and straightforward
- For Chemistry: build concept clarity on chemical equations, the periodic table, acids and bases, and metals vs non-metals
- For Biology: revise NCERT definitions, diagrams, and factual content — most Biology questions in APJEE were recall-based
- With 150 questions in 2 hours, you have roughly 48 seconds per question. Practice timed mock tests to build both speed and accuracy
- Avoid guessing on questions you have no idea about. The -1 negative marking adds up fast if you attempt many random questions
General Tips for All APJEE Cycles
- Know your category before applying. Applying under the wrong category leads to rejection. If you are unsure whether you qualify as Category-I or Category-II, verify with the DHTE office before registration opens
- Add multiple college-branch preferences. During the preference-filling window, add every combination you would realistically accept. Fewer choices mean fewer options if your top preferences are taken by higher-ranked candidates
- Monitor the portal during counselling. Allotment results, response windows, and round dates are published only on the official portal. Missing a response window can result in automatic seat cancellation
- Apply at least 7-10 days before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical issues or document rejections costing you a year

Ques. What happens if I do not report during Round 1 of APJEE 2026?
Ans. If you are allotted a seat in Round 1 but do not report between June 17 and June 26, 2026, your allotment will be automatically cancelled. The seat is released into the pool for Round 2. Candidates who lose their seat due to non-reporting are generally not considered in later rounds. If you are undecided, choose the "Float" option through the portal before June 26 — this keeps your Round 1 seat confirmed while making you eligible for a better offer in Round 2.
Ques. Can Non-APST candidates apply for APJEE 2026?
Ans. Yes. Non-APST candidates (Category-II) can apply if they are children of state or central government employees posted in Arunachal Pradesh, have resided continuously in the state for 3 or more years, or completed Class X or XII from a school in Arunachal Pradesh. However, Category-II seats are limited to around 20% of total seats, so the competition for popular branches is high.
Ques. Will APJEE 2027 also be merit-based or will the written exam return?
Ans. The non-conduct circular states the abeyance is "till further orders," meaning DHTE has not made a permanent decision. A separate notification will be issued for the 2027 cycle. Students currently in Class X should watch apdhte.nic.in from January 2027 for an official announcement on the 2027 admission format. Prepare your Class X boards strongly regardless — strong marks help in both merit-based and exam-based selection processes.
Ques. Does APJEE cover B.Tech or MBBS admissions?
Ans. No. APJEE covers only 3-year Diploma-level polytechnic admissions in Arunachal Pradesh. For B.Tech at NIT Arunachal Pradesh, you must qualify JEE Main and participate in JoSAA and CSAB-NEUT counselling. For MBBS and other medical courses, NEET qualification is mandatory. APJEE has no role in B.Tech degree or medical admissions. However, after completing a diploma, you can pursue lateral entry into the 2nd year of a B.Tech programme through a separate admission process.
