  • AIIMS Counselling: MCC will conduct AIIMS MBBS counselling for approximately 2,257 seats across 20 AIIMS institutes. Counselling is expected to begin in August 2026. In 2025, MCC counselling Round 1 started in late June after results.

What is AIIMS MBBS?

AIIMS MBBS stands for All India Institute of Medical Sciences Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. It refers to the MBBS programme offered by all 20 AIIMS institutes in India. These are centrally funded autonomous institutes set up by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The AIIMS MBBS exam was a separate national entrance test conducted by AIIMS New Delhi from 2009 to 2019. From 2020 onwards, AIIMS discontinued its own exam. All AIIMS institutes now accept NEET UG scores for MBBS admission. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NEET UG on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Every year, more than 20 lakh candidates appear for NEET UG. Out of these, only the top-scoring candidates can secure MBBS seats at AIIMS institutes. AIIMS New Delhi requires one of the highest NEET scores in the country. The admission to all AIIMS seats is done through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the All India Quota (AIQ) counselling process.

  • After Re-NEET 2026 is conducted on June 21, NTA will release a fresh provisional answer key in July 2026
  • Candidates can raise objections against the provisional key within the stipulated time
  • NTA will then release the final answer key before declaring the result
  • Only marks from the Re-NEET 2026 final answer key will be used for result and counselling

You can download the answer key from neet.nta.nic.in once released. The download link requires your application number and date of birth.

Preparation Tips for Re-NEET 2026

If you are preparing for the Re-NEET 2026 exam on June 21, you have about three weeks left. This is enough time to revise and sharpen your strategy. The Re-NEET 2026 paper will be a fresh question paper — do not assume any advantage from having seen the May 3 paper, as that paper has been cancelled.

Subject-Wise Tips

  • Biology (360 marks): Revise all NCERT chapters from Class 11 and 12. Focus on Genetics, Ecology, Plant Physiology, and Human Physiology. Make short notes of diagrams. Biology is the highest-scoring section — aim for 340+ out of 360.
  • Chemistry (180 marks): For Organic Chemistry, focus on reaction mechanisms, named reactions, and biomolecules. For Physical Chemistry, practise numerical problems daily. For Inorganic Chemistry, revise NCERT facts thoroughly.
  • Physics (180 marks): Physics is the toughest section for most students. Focus on Mechanics, Electricity, and Optics. Practise problems from NCERT exercises and previous year papers. Use formula sheets for quick revision.

Last Three Weeks Strategy for Re-NEET 2026

  • Week 1 (June 1–7): Revise Class 12 Biology (full NCERT), solve previous 5-year papers for Biology, revise Organic Chemistry reaction mechanisms
  • Week 2 (June 8–14): Revise Class 11 Biology, Physical and Inorganic Chemistry, Physics (Mechanics + Electricity), take 2 full mock tests
  • Week 3 (June 15–20): Revise weak topics only, solve 1 full mock test per day, focus on accuracy and time management, avoid new topics
  • Exam Day (June 21): Read the paper carefully before answering, attempt Biology first, avoid negative marking by skipping doubtful questions

Best Books for NEET UG / AIIMS MBBS Preparation

  • Biology: NCERT Biology Class 11 and 12 (primary), Trueman’s Biology
  • Chemistry: NCERT Chemistry Class 11 and 12 (primary), O.P. Tandon for Organic Chemistry
  • Physics: NCERT Physics Class 11 and 12, H.C. Verma for Concepts of Physics
  • Previous Year Papers: NEET UG papers from 2017 to 2025 (at least 10 years)

For AIIMS New Delhi, you need to score above 710 out of 720 marks. That means near-perfect accuracy across all three subjects. If AIIMS New Delhi is your goal, aim for 160+ correct answers out of 180 with minimal negative marking.

Ans. The Re-NEET 2026 exam will be held on June 21, 2026 (Sunday), from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM IST. The exam will be in offline mode across exam centres in India and abroad. NTA will release fresh admit cards for all candidates by June 14, 2026.

Ques. What NEET score do I need for AIIMS New Delhi?

Ans. AIIMS New Delhi requires one of the highest NEET scores in the country. In 2025, the General category closing rank was AIR 48, which required a score above 710 out of 720. For other categories — OBC (AIR 206), SC (AIR 644), ST (AIR 1405), and EWS (AIR 254). You need near-perfect accuracy to get AIIMS New Delhi.

Ques. How many MBBS seats are there in AIIMS?

Ans. There are approximately 2,257 MBBS seats across 20 AIIMS institutes in India as of 2026. AIIMS New Delhi, Jodhpur, Bhopal, Rishikesh, Bhubaneswar, Raipur, and Patna each have around 125 seats. The newer AIIMS institutes (Nagpur, Kalyani, Gorakhpur, etc.) have around 100 seats each.

Ques. When will AIIMS MBBS 2026 counselling start?

Ans. AIIMS MBBS 2026 counselling through MCC is expected to begin in August 2026, after the Re-NEET 2026 result is declared in July. There are usually 4 counselling rounds — Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round. You must register on mcc.nic.in to participate in counselling.

Ques. What is the age limit for AIIMS MBBS 2026?

Ans. You must be at least 17 years old as on December 31, 2026 to apply for NEET UG 2026 and AIIMS MBBS admission. There is no upper age limit for NEET UG — the Supreme Court removed the upper age cap. You can appear any number of times as long as you meet the age and qualification criteria.

Ques. What is the NEET UG 2026 qualifying cutoff for AIIMS admission?

Ans. To be eligible for AIIMS MBBS counselling, you must first clear the NEET UG qualifying cutoff. For 2026, the expected qualifying marks are around 164 for General/EWS (50th percentile) and around 129 for OBC/SC/ST (40th percentile). Clearing this cutoff only makes you eligible for counselling — the actual admission cutoff is much higher, especially for AIIMS institutes.

Ques. Will the NEET UG 2026 fee be refunded after cancellation?

Ans. Yes. NTA opened a fee refund portal from May 23, 2026 for all candidates who appeared in the original NEET UG 2026 exam on May 3. You can apply for a full refund through the official NTA portal. Applying for a refund does not affect your eligibility for Re-NEET 2026 — you can still appear on June 21, 2026.
