Ans. NIT Rourkela is better for a Masters in Geology. It offers better facilities. Geology department has well-equipped labs with latest technologies. The campus has an active research environment. There is cutting-edge ongoing research in the field of Earth and Atmospheric Science.  Although NIT Rourkela is the better option in terms of academics and research culture, IIT Bhubaneswar has a locational advantage. Ans. Very few IITs in India offer Geology and all of them follow the same curriculum. The faculties at IIT Bhubaneswar is well qualified and experienced. Given below are a few advantages of choosing geology at IIT Bhubaneswar:- One of the parts of the IIT Bhubaneswar campus is close to Chilka lake, which is used for ocean and navel geology based courses, it is probably the only IIT in the country with such practical facilities available. Being one of the most culturally effervescent cities in the country and having a tropical savanna climate, Bhubaneswar is the most suitable for the field of climate and ocean research. There are a large number of elective courses of the geology department that are available in IIT Bhubaneswar with a few notable ones being Glacial Geoscience, Modelling and Stimulation, and many others. There are about 11 elective courses in MSc Geology each having 3 contact hours and 3 credits and divided between semesters(I and II) and (III and IV). Ans. As a former student of MSc. Geology at IIT Bhubaneswar, I am going to shed some light on my department/institution: IIT Bhubaneswar offers an MSc. Geology program under the School of Earth, Ocean, and Climate Sciences.  The program's objective is to give students extensive instructions and training in Earth, Ocean, and Climate Sciences, including both basic and applied topics.  Additionally, students can also engage in innovative Earth System science research.  We have excellent faculty members at our department who are indulged in high-quality research.  The department students are indulged in workshops, presentations, and academic conferences at top institutes.  Last year, i.e. in 2023, the students of our department won the 1st prize in an oral presentation at the Research & Industrial Conclave, IIT Guwahati.  Based on these factors, I can assure you that joining IIT Bhubaneswar for an MSc. in Geology is a good idea.Read more

Ans. The course touches on all the aspects that is needed for industry purposes completely. There are two CIAs and one end semester exam. Each CIA is of 20 marks each. The first one is written while the second one is either objective type questions, projects or presentations. The end semester exam is of 60 marks.
