BTech Sugar and Alcohol Technology: Entrance Exam Preparation Tips

  • It is tough to crack entrance exams but with the right pointers, it can become quite easy. To prepare for the exams, candidates must create a practical study plan and use fewer books for theory.
  • They must plan an exam strategy wherein they train their mind for the exam and focus on their strengths and weaknesses. Before appearing for the exam, they should practice previous years’ papers. In the examination hall, candidates must read the questions cautiously.
  • IIT JEE mains entrance examination has objective type questions with an equal marking for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. It has two papers in total. There is no deduction in marks for unattempted questions, however, one mark is deducted for incorrect answers.
  • The entrance exam conducted is based on questions asked from the field of mathematics, physics, chemistry, English language comprehension, current affairs, and general awareness. PU-CET is based on Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, and Biology.
  • The examinations are generally multiple-choice based which also have a negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer. No marks will be deducted for unattempted questions.

How to get admission to a good BTech Sugar and Alcohol Technology?

To secure admission into a top-ranking BTech Sugar and Alcohol Technology college, several factors come into play.

  • To get into a good college, candidates must first appear for an entrance examination. JEE Main is the commonly accepted entrance test, and most of the engineering colleges in India accept JEE Mains score for BTech admissions. Apart from JEE Main, state-level engineering entrance exams are also conducted. For BTech in Sugar and Alcohol Technology, PU-CET and MHT CET are the required examinations.
  • Candidates must make a list of the pros and cons of the engineering institutes they are considering, and rate them out of 10 against different aspects of college life like affordability, distance from home, teacher-student ratio, etc.
  • Other factors to keep in mind are college infrastructure, facilities available, the brand name or status of the engineering college, the university it is affiliated to, placement record, whether accommodation is available nearby, and so forth.
  • Certain colleges carefully assess high school grades, courses, test scores, essays, activities, recommendations, and interviews, if required. Candidates will increase their chances of getting into the colleges of their choice by- getting the best possible grades in 10+2.
  • Taking academically rigorous classes, spending sufficient time and developing college essays, preparing for on-campus interviews if required by colleges, and most importantly starting their college search early-on will further help candidates choose the right college.

Ques. What should I choose between IIT Indore (CSE) and IIT Delhi (Chemical Engineering)?

● Top Answer By Rohit Gajendra on 09 Jul 24

Ans. IIT Delhi is consistently ranked among the top engineering institutions in India. Its brand name will significantly improve your employment prospects after graduation. Moreover, the ‘IIT’ tag will be beneficial if you apply for higher education in foreign universities in the near future.  The Chemical Engineering program at IIT Delhi is known for its rigorous curriculum. The department has state-of-the-art facilities and top industry collaborations. This allows the students to gain excellent research exposure. Moreover, the placements at IIT Delhi are better than those at IIT Indore due to the former’s strong industry connections.  Chemical Engineering graduates from IIT Delhi find job opportunities in diverse sectors including petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, environmental engineering, and even in finance and consulting. IIT Delhi's vast and influential alumni network can be invaluable for your career growth. Here’s a comparison between IIT Delhi and IIT Indore for your reference: Particulars IIT Delhi  IIT Indore    Year of Establishment    1961    2009   NIRF Ranking 2023 (Engineering Category)    2    14   Highest CTC (2023)   INR 2.5 CPA (Overall)   INR 68 LPA (CSE) Median CTC (2023) - INR 28.57 LPA (CSE) Average CTC (2023) INR 17.60 LPA (Overall) INR 30.89 LPA (CSE)   % Batch placed (2023) 84.94% (Overall) 96.83% (CSE) (The branch-wise placement stats for IIT Delhi are not available). Ques. Which is better, IIT Delhi (chemical) or BITS Pilani (CSE)?

● Top Answer By Shruti on 09 Jul 24

Ans. I am a B.Tech Chemical Engineering student at IIT Delhi. According to me, these are the main factors you should consider while making up your mind: Demand: CSE is more in-demand than chemical engineering. Brand: The “IIT” tag holds more brand value than the “BITS” tag. The “IIT” tag will be more advantageous if you want to apply to foreign universities for higher education later on. Fees: IIT Delhi is an affordable choice, whereas, BITS Pilani has high fees for its engineering programs. Additionally, IIT Delhi has better placements, which places it at a better position in terms of ROI. Here is a comparison between IIT Delhi Chemical and BITS Pilani CSE: Parameters IIT Delhi Chemical BITS Pilani CSE Course Fee INR 99,650 (for sem-1)* INR 3.32 lakh (for sem-1) Highest Package (2023: Overall) INR 2.5 CPA  INR 60. 75 LPA Average Package (2023: Overall) INR 17.60 LPA INR 30.37 LPA CTC Range (for 2023) - (IT branches) INR 11 - 38 LPA Campus Recruiters Microsoft, CISCO, Accenture, Brain & company, Jaguar Land Rover India Limited EY, HSBC,KPMC, HCL,IBM, TCS *This is the fee-structure for General/OBC students with family income>5 LPA.    Even though CSE is a highly sought after branch in the current market, I would suggest you opt for Chemical Engineering at IIT Delhi. IIT Delhi will offer a better ROI, and its brand name will be of immense benefit if you wish to pursue higher studies in India and abroad after graduation.   You can do some research on the career and research opportunities after Chemical Engineering, and see if this branch aligns with your future goals.Read more
