IISER Thiruvananthapuram: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 106 Reviews

The faculty at this college are highly educated, with every member holding a Ph.D. and possessing at least three years of post-doctoral experience. They are actively involved in research and have their own labs. The student-teacher ratio is 10:1, although it can increase to 250-300 students per faculty in the first two years of the Integrated BS-MS course. Tutorial sessions are available, typically managed by PhD students, with a ratio of 30 students per session.

Faculty members are approachable, enthusiastic, and contribute significantly to the curriculum. Exams include one mid-semester and one end-semester exam per subject, along with quizzes and practicals, with difficulty varying by professor. In the math department, exams are particularly challenging to develop critical thinking. Faculty advisors are assigned to students to guide them academically and personally. Faculty:

The Faculites teaching here are very well qualified and most of them are foreign returns, Their methods of teaching and explaining is very professional. Ratio of faculty to students can be estimated 1:30. But few of them are nasty, not everyone is perfect on their own. Semester exams are tough and no one is allowed to cheat and fool the invigilators, however the long proven method of studying a night or week before exams works here too.

Faculty to student ration is o ly kept according to classes , subject and year courses therefore this keeps on changing respectively as in any other college. For a sing semester we have 2 quizzes(unit tests) , midsems and endsem exminations. Overall difficulth level depends on the course structure and mainly on the professor. But curriculum is well designed to get u ready for research field.

Faculty:

Faculty is plenty in every department. They are well trained and helpfull and approachable, not only for their course but in general about their research field. Can approach any faculty memeber about their past research and will get a positive reply. Some senior faculty memebers can be egoistic, but they care about their department and the students. Generally, a course is graded based in assignments, quizes, midsems and endsems. Very little number of students (~4-8) fail a course. The first and second year curriculum included multiple subjects, oroviding exposure to students about all these fields (phys, Bio, Maths, Chem, EES, CSE, DSE, SSt). Can choose one major subject for 3-5th year.

Faculty:

The student faculty ratio is pretty bad, especially in the first few years (although there's a lot of TAs, but they can only help you so much). I won't name any faculties but I can assure that whoever there is might not always be one of the best teachers at teaching but they sure are extremely qualified individuals having earned their PhDs and multiple Post Docs from prestigious foreign universities.

The student ratio in the first year is approx 1:450 But after taking your majors in 3rd year, it's around 1:50 I liked Rahul Garg, Kenny Thomas, and angna chaudhary as they are very kind to students and are great educators as well. Till now, I haven't disliked any of the faculty. We have 2 quizzes (each worth around 10%) 1 mid-semester (30%) 1 endsem (50%) Quizzes are mostly easy, midterms are moderate, and end sems are somewhat on the tougher side. Most students pass the course and it's relevant and gives a good idea about the subject and later we can do further study in library too.

Faculty:

Faculty to student ratio is around 30:1 across all departments. The faculties are generally very friendly to approach and helpful. Personally I liked Dr. Rahul Garg, Dr. Sanjit Konar, Dr. Subhajit Roychowdhury, Dr. Raghuvir Singh Tomar and many others among the best. I liked their teaching style and how easy it is to approach them. There is no faculty that I didn't like as such. There are Mid-semester exams once each semester, and end-semester exams at the ending. There are also generally 1-2 quizzes per course. Generally most students pass the exams and it is quite easy to do so with regular study. The curriculum is very relevant, and not outdated. Professors also occasionally bring in breakthroughs or current developments in that area during the lectures to engage the students more.

Faculty:

Faculty to student ratio is 1.3. In classroom teachers are soo helpful but sometimes the way of teaching needs to get changed. But in lab teachers are very very strict. Some teachers tought students are their slave,i need to mention not all the teachers. Even my PI is very strict. Rach course will have mid sem and end sem, depending upon the teachers quiz system keeps changing. Again the grading policies depend upon the teacher.

Faculty:

Professors are open to everything. They help students in every kind of doubts. If they're not free, they assign their TAs to solve them and they're just there to make you fully enlightened but you gotta choose to approach them. the ratio is good in later year when you choose your specialisation. In first year its around 400 students because all disciplines are taught together. Exam pattern is Quiz 1, Midsem, Quiz 2, Endsem and there are two semesters in a year. You study everything in first year then choose three premajor subjects in second year and then choose major subject in third year. I'm willing to choose Physics but am still exploring and open to choose any other if I get inclined towards it. But I'm particularly fascinated by physics a lot.

Faculty to student ratio is around 1:40 in first year, although in further years it gets better. I personally like Adarsh Vasista sir as he is easily approachable and he seems really interest in Physics. We have a total of 4 quizes, one midsem and end sem. two of the 4 quizes are conducted before midsem and others are conducted after midems. Difficulty levels vary from professor to professor, overall quizes are easier to score on. There is relative grading, and 75% attendance is compulsory.
