The BS-MS programme allows students to choose their major discipline at the end of the second year, after a broad foundational training in all sciences. A distinctive fifth-year thesis research project gives students hands-on research experience equivalent to a full-year lab immersion before they complete their degree. The M.Sc programme offers a flexible curriculum with year-long project components.

IISER TVM Admission Process

BS-MS Admission

From 2026 onwards, BS-MS admission at all IISERs including IISER TVM is based solely on the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT). The IAT is a three-hour computer-based test covering Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. Candidates who have passed Class 12 with PCM or PCB with at least 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD) are eligible.

  • IAT registration is done through the centralised IISER admissions portal at iiseradmission.in
  • The merit list is drawn IAT-discipline-wise. Candidates rank their preferred IISER during choice filling after results.
  • IISER TVM intake for BS-MS is 320 seats across six disciplines
  • SC/ST/OBC and PwD reservation norms apply as per central government rules

M.Sc Admission

M.Sc admissions at IISER TVM are based on IIT JAM scores (for JAM-conducting subjects) followed by an institute-specific written test and interview. Candidates must hold a BSc or equivalent degree in the relevant discipline with a minimum of 55% marks. Applications are invited annually from March to April.

Ph.D. Admission

IISER TVM admits PhD students in two annual cycles: a July cycle (applications in January to March) and a December cycle (applications in October to November). Candidates with a valid CSIR/UGC-NET JRF, GATE, DBT-JRF, or DST-INSPIRE score are preferred. Candidates without a fellowship qualification may sit for the IISER PhD entrance test followed by a faculty interview. Supervision is assigned before enrolment based on faculty availability and research alignment.

IISER TVM Campus and Infrastructure

The IISER TVM campus is located at Vithura, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, at an elevation in the Western Ghats foothills adjacent to the Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve. The 200-acre campus is surrounded by forest reserve and tea estates, giving it one of the most scenic and ecologically unique settings among all IISERs.

Key infrastructure at IISER TVM includes:

  • School-specific research laboratories (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Sciences, Data Science, Mathematics)
  • Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) with advanced analytical equipment for cross-school use
  • Centre for High Performance Computing (HPC) for computational research in physics, mathematics, and data science
  • CAMRIE research centre and the RDC Office managing grants and industry partnerships
