The Institute was established by the Government of India, Ministry of Tourism, in the Union Territory of Pondicherry in October 1991 and is now being sponsored by the Government of Pondicherry also with a prime objective of developing human resource for the hospitality industry. Besides, it provides job opportunities to the youth in a wide range.

Admission to PIHMCT Pondicherry is done based on NCHMCT JEE exam followed by counselling to get selected and you must have passed 12^th with 50% to be eligible.
