Placement Experience:
Henry takes an elitist view on this subject. He believes the way to fix America's educational problems is to start people on different paths early in there schooling careers. Say a child is a good with working with wood, Send the child to a school for carpenters instead of him wasting away in a school where he might not do as well and waste people time and money. "The U. S. Department of Labor states that more then 30% of college graduates are in fields not requiring a degree. (Henry 136)" Which means that money spend by and on these students was wasted because the return for sending he/she to college was minimal. "Statistics of the Department of Commerce says that 63% of American high school graduates go on to some from of higher education as oppose to 10 to 15% in other first world countries. (135)" Henry thinks this shows why are educational system is not meeting world standards. If the goal is for all students to go on to college and that's the teachers goal to then it seems the more apt to let them slid on the little things such as grammar, simple arithmetic, etc. He says "As a society we think it's cruel not to give everyone a second chance, It my be more cruel to let them go on fooling themselves. (136)" He purposes a massive overhaul of higher education in America by doing two things.
