AIFT BAFTNMP FAQs
Ques. Is there any entrance exam for admission to the BA Film Making and Television Production course at AIFT Mumbai?
Ans. No, there is no entrance exam for admission to the BAFTNMP course at AIFT. Admission is purely merit-based on Class 12 (HSC) marks. Students need to register on the Mumbai University UG admission portal (muugadmission.samarth.edu.in) and apply directly to AIFT. The merit list is prepared based on Class 12 percentage, and seats are allotted accordingly. Students from any stream (Arts, Commerce, or Science) are eligible to apply.
Ques. What is the actual fee for the BA Film Making course at AIFT, and has it increased recently?
Ans. The total fee for the 3-year BAFTNMP programme at AIFT for 2026-27 is Rs 4,50,000 (approximately Rs 1,50,000 per year). This is a significant increase from the previous year's fee of Rs 2,25,000 for the full course. Students should note that hostel accommodation is not available at AIFT, so they need to budget separately for accommodation in Mumbai. The institute is located in Malad West, which has relatively affordable PG and rental options compared to South Mumbai. Students are advised to confirm the exact fee structure directly with the institute before applying.
Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing the BA Film Making and Television Production course from AIFT Mumbai?
Ans. Graduates of the BAFTNMP programme can pursue careers as film directors, assistant directors, cinematographers, video editors, scriptwriters, production managers, sound designers, VFX artists, and digital content creators. Given AIFT's location in Mumbai, graduates have direct access to Bollywood production houses, television channels, and OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hotstar. Alumni have been placed with production companies and media houses in Mumbai. The growing OTT industry has significantly increased demand for trained film and television professionals, making this a high-growth career path. Students can also pursue higher studies in filmmaking at national institutes like FTII Pune or international film schools.
Ques. Is the BAFTNMP course at AIFT recognised and what is the value of the degree in the industry?
Ans. The BAFTNMP degree is awarded by the University of Mumbai, one of India's oldest and most reputed universities, which gives it strong academic recognition. The course is affiliated to Mumbai University and the institute is part of the Atharva Group of Institutions, which is NAAC Accredited. Being a Mumbai University degree, it is recognised by all government and private employers. The practical, industry-oriented curriculum and the institute's location in Mumbai's media hub add significant value to the degree. However, students should note that in the film industry, a portfolio of work (short films, documentaries, etc.) often matters as much as the degree itself.
Ques. What is the difference between the BAFTNMP and BAMMC courses offered at AIFT, and which one should I choose?
Ans. AIFT offers two BA programmes: BAFTNMP (BA in Film, Television and New Media Production) and BAMMC (BA in Multimedia and Mass Communication). The BAFTNMP is specifically focused on filmmaking, direction, cinematography, editing, and OTT content production - ideal for students who want to work behind the camera in the film and television industry. The BAMMC is broader, covering multimedia, journalism, advertising, public relations, and mass communication - suitable for students interested in media, journalism, or advertising careers. The BAFTNMP fees are Rs 4,50,000 for 3 years, while BAMMC fees are Rs 9,00,000 for 3 years. Students passionate about filmmaking and content creation should opt for BAFTNMP, while those interested in broader media careers should consider BAMMC.
Ques. Does AIFT provide placement assistance, and what kind of companies recruit from the institute?
Ans. AIFT provides placement assistance through its industry connections in Mumbai's film and television ecosystem. Alumni have been placed with production companies, post-production studios, television channels, and advertising agencies in Mumbai. Notable alumni placements include positions at Anaiah Films and After Studio (Santacruz, Mumbai). The institute's location in Malad West, close to Film City and several production houses, facilitates industry interactions, internships, and job placements. However, as with most film schools, placements in the film industry are highly competitive and depend significantly on the student's portfolio, skills, and networking. Students are encouraged to build their portfolio through the institute's film festival participation and industry project opportunities during the course.
