JECRCU PhD(Law) FAQs
Ques. Is the JECRC University PhD (Law) entrance test compulsory for all candidates, or can I get direct admission based on my LL.M. marks?
Ans. Direct admission based solely on LL.M. marks is not available. All candidates must either appear in the JECRC University PhD Entrance Test or hold a valid UGC-NET/JRF qualification to be exempted from the written test. Even NET/JRF qualified candidates must appear for the interview before the Departmental Research Committee (DRC). The final selection is based on a combination of entrance test performance (70% weightage) and interview (30% weightage), ensuring that only research-oriented candidates are admitted.
Ques. How many seats are available for PhD (Law) at JECRC University, and how competitive is the admission process?
Ans. As per the January 2026 session announcement, only 5 seats are available for PhD (Law) at JECRC University. Given the limited intake, the admission process is competitive. Candidates with UGC-NET/JRF qualifications have an advantage as they are exempted from the written test and directly called for the interview. For others, scoring well above the minimum 50% cutoff in the entrance test is important to secure a seat.
Ques. Can I pursue the PhD (Law) programme while working as a lawyer or in a law firm? Is there any part-time or distance option?
Ans. The PhD (Law) programme at JECRC University is offered in full-time mode only. There is no part-time or distance learning option available for this programme. Full-time scholars are expected to be present on campus for coursework, research activities, and interactions with their supervisor and the Departmental Research Committee. Candidates who are working professionals should factor in this requirement before applying.
Ques. What happens if I am unable to complete my PhD within the minimum 3-year duration? Are there additional fees?
Ans. As per UGC norms, the minimum duration for a PhD is 3 years and the maximum is 6 years. If a scholar is unable to complete the programme within 3 years, they are required to renew their registration every year and pay the Annual Academic Fee of Rs. 50,000 for each additional year. The Thesis Submission Fee of Rs. 40,000 is payable only at the time of actual thesis submission, regardless of the year of completion.
