The MBBS curriculum comes with a mandatory 1yr internship in the hospital of the medical college. A student is required to complete the clinical rotations in all the departments of the hospital to get the degree of an MBBS graduate and a license to practice medicine in the country. A decent stipend of 28000 is also provided by the government in the medical colleges under West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) as of 2024, which may increase in the future.

After the completion of final year study of MBBS course, internship are provided to all students for practice in the OPD, TRAUMA, EMERGENCY,etc. Stipend offered for the internship varies in all states and colleges.

Internship can be availed by the students after they pass their final professional exam and then successfully complete their exit examination, namely the National Exit Test, or NExT. Their place of internship is the college of enrolment itself, and their MD/MS course and college is determined by their rank.

After you have completed 4 years of MBBS, the last year is of internship where you will be employed in different departments like Eye, Ent, Surgery, Medicine etc., and have a hands-on approach to handling cases and patients. This is a very important phase in one's life as they learn patient handling critical and emergency medicine and overall practical experiences. The salary for an internship is around 30k/month. After the internship is completed one can either appear for NEET PG examinations to apply for a postgraduate course or they can opt for housestaff in any government it private hospitals.
