PTU Ph.D. CSE Admission 2026

PTU conducts PhD admissions once a year, typically in the June-August cycle. The selection process is two-stage: a written entrance test followed by an interview. Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must hold a B.E./B.Tech. degree in CSE/IT/ECE and an M.E./M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, or any related specialization with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks (or CGPA 6.0 on a 10-point scale) in the qualifying PG examination.
SC/ST/PwD candidates require a minimum of 50% marks (or CGPA 5.5 on a 10-point scale) in the qualifying PG examination.
Candidates who have passed their Master's Degree through the Open University system are not eligible.

Admission Process

Apply online at ptuniv.edu.in during the application window (typically June-July).
Pay the non-refundable application fee of Rs. 2,000 (Rs. 1,000 for SC/ST, OBC, PwD, Women).
Appear for the PTU PhD Entrance Examination (100 MCQs, 150 marks, 3 hours) - exempted for GATE/UGC-NET/CSIR-UGC-NET (JRF) holders.
Shortlisted candidates appear for an interview, including a 20-minute research presentation.
Final selection is based on: 20% of PG marks (above minimum) + 30% of entrance test marks + 50% of interview marks.

Ques. Can I pursue the PTU PhD in CSE part-time while working in a private company?

Ans. Part-time (External) PhD is available only for permanent employees of PTU's Recognized Research Centres (Group II/III), such as CSIR labs, government undertakings, or reputed private sector R&D organizations recognized by PTU. Regular private company employees not affiliated with a recognized research centre are not eligible for the part-time external category. Contract employees are not eligible at all.
