Ques. Is GATE mandatory for admission to M.Tech Instrumentation Engineering at PTU?
Ans. No, GATE is not mandatory. Non-GATE candidates are also eligible for admission. However, GATE-qualified candidates are given priority in the merit list. Vacancies remaining after GATE candidates are allotted are filled by non-GATE candidates based on their qualifying degree CGPA. Having a GATE score significantly improves your chances of securing a seat.
Ques. What is the difference between the Self-Supporting (SS) programme and the Regular programme at PTU?
Ans. The M.Tech Instrumentation Engineering is a Self-Supporting (SS) programme, which means the fee is slightly higher (Rs. 56,101 per year) compared to regular M.Tech programmes (Rs. 49,101 per year). The academic quality, faculty, and facilities are the same. GATE-qualified students in SS programmes are also eligible for the AICTE PG Scholarship of Rs. 12,400/month.
Ques. Can students from other states apply for M.Tech Instrumentation Engineering at PTU?
Ans. Yes. Out of 12 total seats, 2 seats are reserved for candidates from other states/UTs (OS quota). Students from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and all other states can apply under the OS quota. OS quota candidates must submit self-attested copies of Nationality, Nativity, and Community certificates.
Ques. What are the career prospects after M.Tech Instrumentation Engineering from PTU?
Ans. Graduates can pursue careers in process industries (oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical), automation companies, biomedical device manufacturers, and research institutions. Key recruiters include BHEL, ISRO, DRDO, Honeywell, Emerson, ABB, and various process industry companies in the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry industrial corridor.
Ques. Can working professionals pursue M.Tech Instrumentation Engineering at PTU?
Ans. Yes. PTU offers this programme in Part-Time mode (3 years) for working professionals. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience and submit a No Objection Certificate from their employer. Sponsored candidates (with employer sponsorship) can also apply for up to 5 dedicated seats.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation available for M.Tech students at PTU?
Ans. PTU has a dedicated PG hostel named Charukesi with a capacity of 120 students (for all PG programmes combined). Hostel accommodation is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. Students are advised to apply for hostel accommodation early after receiving their admission order. The annual hostel fee is approximately Rs. 60,000-75,000 (including mess charges).
