Q1. Is there an entrance exam for M.Sc. (Materials Science) admission at PTU?
Ans. No, there is no entrance examination for M.Sc. admission at PTU. Selection is based purely on the CGPA of the qualifying undergraduate degree, computed from the first semester to the final semester.
Q2. What is the scope after completing M.Sc. (Materials Science and Technology) from PTU?
Ans. Graduates can pursue Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science, or related fields at PTU or other universities. Career opportunities exist in research labs (DRDO, ISRO, CSIR), semiconductor and electronics industries, nanotechnology firms, and academia. Qualifying CSIR-UGC NET/GATE opens doors to research fellowships and teaching positions.
Q3. How many seats are available for M.Sc. (Materials Science) at PTU and what is the reservation?
Ans. There are 10 seats in total - 7 seats for Puducherry UT residents and 3 seats for candidates from other states/UTs. Within the Puducherry quota, further reservations apply for OC, OBC, MBC, SC, ST, and other categories as per UT norms.
Q4. Can students from engineering backgrounds apply for M.Sc. (Materials Science) at PTU?
Ans. Yes, candidates with a STEM degree (Physical Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) equivalent to the specified B.Sc. qualifications are eligible. However, the primary eligibility is for B.Sc. graduates with Physics/Chemistry as main subjects.

Ans. The total programme fee is Rs. 28,150 as per the 2024-25 PGAC brochure. This is subject to revision for subsequent years. The fee is paid at the time of admission.
