Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering) at Vimal Jyothi Engineering College (VJEC), Kannur, Kerala, is a 4-year full-time undergraduate programme affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) and approved by AICTE. The programme offers a comprehensive curriculum covering core CS fundamentals, programming, data structures, algorithms, operating systems, networks, and emerging technologies. With a seat intake of 240 seats, the total tuition fee for the programme is Rs. 4,02,000 (Rs. 1,00,500 per year), making it one of the more affordable private engineering options in Kerala. Admission is primarily through KEAM (Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical Entrance Examination), and the course is offered in full-time on-campus mode. VJEC's B.Tech CSE is the flagship programme of the college and is highly popular due to its large intake, NBA accreditation, autonomous status, and strong industry connect in the Kannur region.

Admissions for the 2026-27 batch are upcoming. Based on last year's schedule, KEAM 2026 option registration and counselling is expected to begin in mid-July 2026, with the first allotment likely in late July 2026. The KEAM 2026 exam has already been conducted (April 17-23, 2026), and results/rank list are expected by May 2026. VJEC's own management quota application window is expected to open alongside the CEE allotment process. Candidates are advised to regularly check the official VJEC website (vjec.ac.in) and CEE Kerala website (cee.kerala.gov.in) for updates.

Key Points

  • VJEC is an autonomous institution affiliated to KTU, which means the college has the flexibility to design its own curriculum and conduct internal assessments independently.
  • The B.Tech CSE programme is NBA accredited, ensuring quality standards in technical education.
  • The college is a member of the Kerala Catholic Engineering College Management's Association (KCECMA), and 50% of seats are filled through government allotment via CEE Kerala.
  • VJEC offers a special scholarship scheme where students with top KEAM ranks or high Plus Two scores can avail significant fee reductions, with some students paying as low as Rs. 10,000 per year.
  • The college has a dedicated Training and Placement Cell that begins placement preparation from the 3rd semester onwards.

VJEC B.Tech CSE FAQs

Ques. Is VJEC B.Tech CSE a good choice for students from outside Kerala?

Ans. Yes, VJEC accepts students from outside Kerala under the Non-Keralite Category I and II through KEAM. However, the majority of seats (50%) are filled through CEE Kerala's government allotment, which prioritises Keralite candidates. Non-Keralite students can also apply for management quota seats directly. The college has a hostel facility, making it accessible for outstation students.

Ques. What is the difference between government quota and management quota seats at VJEC?

Ans. 50% of seats are filled by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala, through KEAM rank-based allotment. Of the remaining 50%, 15% are NRI quota seats and 35% are management quota seats filled by VJEC based on a merit rank list prepared using Plus Two PCM marks and KEAM score with equal weightage. The fee is the same for both government and management quota seats.

Ques. Does VJEC offer any fee reduction for students with high KEAM ranks?

Ans. Yes. VJEC, being a KCECMA member college, offers scholarships based on KEAM rank. Students with KEAM rank 1-7000 may pay fees equivalent to the government fee (approximately Rs. 8,500 per year). Additionally, VJEC's 2026 scholarship scheme offers 200 students the opportunity to pay only Rs. 10,000 per year. Students with 90%+ in Plus Two PCM are also eligible for management scholarships.

Ques. What is the placement scenario specifically for CSE students at VJEC?

Ans. CSE is the strongest branch for placements at VJEC. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, and Federal Bank regularly recruit from the CSE department. Students eligible for campus placements are those in their 6th semester onwards with no active arrears. The average package for placed students is around Rs. 3-4 LPA, with top packages going up to Rs. 6.50 LPA. Placement training begins from the 3rd semester.

Ques. Is VJEC B.Tech CSE affiliated to KTU or is it autonomous?

Ans. VJEC is an autonomous institution affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). Being autonomous means VJEC designs its own curriculum, conducts its own internal assessments, and has more flexibility in academic matters, while the degree is still awarded by KTU. This is considered an advantage as the curriculum can be updated more frequently to match industry needs.

Ques. What documents are required at the time of admission to VJEC B.Tech CSE?

Ans. The following documents are required: printout of the online application form, SSLC/equivalent certificate (original + 3 copies), HSE/equivalent certificate (original + 3 copies), KEAM 2026 data sheet/score card (original + 3 copies), TC and conduct certificate (original), Aadhaar card copy, KEAM allotment memo (for government seats), and 3 passport-size photographs. NRI quota students additionally need NRI sponsored form, valid visa copy, valid passport copy, and NRI bank account passbook/statement.

Tution fee is high on this private college. It will be 95000 - 120000 due to separate fees for many college needs per year also this college is autonomous now. The caution fee is 5000 rupees here. Those who are in the OEC category will get scholarships from the government so they only need 20000 rupees for the fee. In semester exams, if you get an SGPA greater than 8.5, get 30000 rupees as a scholarship, also not in the general category. General category students will not get any of this scholarship. I think campus recruitment processes and placement cell are very good due to high fee having private college. It's good.
