Ques. What is the difference between Information Science and Engineering (ISE) and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at AIET?
Ans. ISE focuses more on information systems, networking, database management, and software engineering, while CSE has a broader focus on core computing, algorithms, and system design. In practice, both branches have similar placement opportunities in IT companies. ISE at AIET has a strong alumni base in companies like EY, Capgemini, and TCS. If you are interested in software development, networking, or data management, ISE is a solid choice.
Ques. What is the seat intake for BE ISE at AIET, and how competitive is admission?
Ans. The seat intake for BE ISE at AIET is 60 students. Admission is through KCET and COMEDK UGET. Based on 2025 data, the KCET closing rank for ISE was around 87,712 (General Merit) and the COMEDK closing rank was around 1,05,816 (General Merit), indicating moderate competition. Students with a reasonable KCET or COMEDK rank have a good chance of securing admission.
Ques. Does AIET ISE have good placement support, and which companies recruit ISE graduates?
Ans. Yes, AIET has a dedicated Training and Placement Cell that conducts regular soft skills training, mock interviews, and aptitude workshops. ISE graduates are recruited by companies such as Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Cognizant, Oracle, SAP, EY, and Capgemini. The annual Pragati placement drive attracts 200+ companies. Ques. Is the BE ISE program at AIET recognized for higher studies abroad or for GATE preparation?
Ans. Yes, the BE ISE degree from AIET (VTU-affiliated) is recognized by universities abroad for higher studies. Many AIET alumni have pursued MS programs in the USA, Germany, Japan, and Australia. For GATE, the ISE curriculum covers subjects like Data Structures, Algorithms, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, and Database Management, which are core GATE CS/IT topics, making it a good foundation for GATE preparation.
Ques. What is the mode of study for BE ISE at AIET, and are there any online or hybrid options?
Ans. BE ISE at AIET is a full-time on-campus program. There are no online or distance learning options for this course. The campus is located in Mijar, Moodbidri, approximately 35 km from Mangalore city. Students are expected to attend classes in person, and hostel facilities are available for outstation students.
Ques. Can I switch from ISE to CSE or another branch after joining AIET?
Ans. Branch changes at AIET (as with most VTU-affiliated colleges) are generally not permitted after admission. The branch allotted at the time of counselling (KCET or COMEDK) is final. However, students can apply for a branch change in the first year if seats are available and if they meet the academic criteria set by the college, subject to VTU regulations. It is advisable to confirm this directly with the AIET admissions office before applying.
