As per the existing rules of the University of Mysore, a candidate must have a Master’s Degree or any other Degree / Diploma of any recognized university/institution with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA /Grade. A candidate who has completed M.Phil., with a minimum of 55% or equivalent grade is eligible for admission even if his/her marks in master’s degree is less than 55% provided the candidate has got admission to M.Phil., by an entrance examination.

However, this condition is relaxed to 50% in case of:

a) SC/ST candidates/Cat-I candidates.

b) In-service candidates with a minimum of five years of regular experience associated with the teaching profession as teacher’s/library professionals/physical education instructors/laboratory staff in educational institutions.

c) A candidate who has completed a master's degree prior to 19 Sept 1991.

2. The candidate shall also appear for the Entrance Test conducted by the University of Mysore.

Candidates who have qualified for UGC/CSIR, JRF fellowships through UGC/CSIR, NET Examinations/SLET/GATE are exempted from Entrance Test. Candidates who have completed M.Phil. course /who have joined M.Phil. course are also exempted from the entrance test provided the M.Phil. /Equivalent course was through an entrance examination. However, all such candidates have to undergo an interview before the probable guide(s)and obtain the consent /acceptance letter from the guide, if vacancies are available.
