Which is a better B-school between FMS, ISB and IIM Lucknow?

The student fraternity of ISB is very different from that of FMS and IIM Lucknow. ISB requires a minimum of 2 years and an average of 4 years of work experience for admission. Whereas IIM Lucknow and FMS focus more on academics and almost 40% of the batch comprises freshers. Others have 2 or fewer years of experience. My answer is divided into 3 parts If you have work experience of 2 or fewer years: In this case, you should give up on ISB and totally focus on FMS or IIM Lucknow. Personally, I would suggest you go for IIM Lucknow because of its brand image. Despite the fact that FMS offers high ROI, you can never underestimate the value of an IIM tag. If you have work experience of 2-3 years: This is the toughest decision as you can nearly go for ISB but will be risking a lot including its extravagant fees. But you won’t regret choosing ISB because of its peers, faculty, research orientation, and campus life. It is also the place where all the big consulting firms come for placements. So if you value reputed firms a lot then go for ISB. If you have above 3 years of experience: Close your eyes and without thinking choose ISB.

Why are IIM A, B, and C valued over FMS, Delhi when the difference between the fees are so high?

It is true that a person’s caliber can in no way be judged from the Business School that they have graduated from. In practice, however, things work very differently. The general assumption is that if a candidate has secured a top rank in one of the most challenging exams and studied one of the top curriculums in the country, then they are really good in their field. IIM A, B, and C have been around for a very long time and its graduates have carved a niche for themselves in the corporate world. Most companies in India and many abroad have IIM A, B, and C graduates in top positions. The alumni spread the goodwill of these institutions in silicon valley and other parts of the world, leading to international repute. These institutions are ‘brands’. An IIM A, B, and C brand opens numerous opportunities for you. Judging IIMs based on ROI solely is not wise. Most IIM graduates end up paying their loans in a period of 3 to 5 years. Also, keep in mind that salary does not remain constant, it keeps increasing each year. Even if you take a loan to fund your MBA, it will be worth it. If you get the opportunity to study at IIM A, B, or C you should grab it at the earliest.

How would you rank the following business schools, ISB, IIM A, B, C, L, XLRI, FMS, and SPJIMR?

All the aforementioned colleges are among the best B Schools in India so the choice between them depends on your preference and future prospects. You need to determine what exactly you want from the program and where your career currently is. In general, ISB is for people who have better industry experience, good leadership skills and decent academics. The other B Schools focus more on excellent academics throughout your career. The ranking of these institutes in my opinion is ISB, IIM-A, B, C>IIM-L, FMS, XLRI,>SPJIMR The above preference order is based on a number of factors like career progression, college market value perception, quality of faculty, quality of students, academic learning, quality of recruiters and infrastructure.

FMS Delhi - Admissions, College life, and Placements.

Fee Structure- the low fees allows a lot of us with high opportunity costs to pursue an MBA. Further, it also allows us to follow our dream domain without having to worry about repaying a heft loan amount.
Location- Being located in the heart of the Capital city, we get access to a lot of resources and opportunities such as live projects etc.

Semester System- Since the other Bschools globally follow a trimester system, we cant take up a term abroad. however, summer schools are always an option.
Fresher Cohort- the admission criteria has no weightage to work experience, making the batch majorly freshers.

You can refer the summer placement report, but largely top companies from all domains come and hire at FMS. From MBB, Big 4 in consulting, to Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanly in Finance, to HUL, Nestle, PnG in marketing, all major companies offer internships for summer placements and compensate extremely well. The average stipend is around 3 Lakhhs for the duration of 2 months.

Top notch faculty, some of the best professors in the whole country.
Great location, North Campus in Delhi offers great off-campus spots to have fun and also connectivity.

Lack of some sports facilities like playground.

Most of the top companies like MBBK, HUL, JPMC, GS, etc. visit the campus for offering summer internships to students. We get to see roles in all domains with very good stipends overall. The average stipend was around 2 Lakhs for the 2024 batch.

The average stipend this year was 1.5 lakhs per month and the highest stipend was 2.2 lakhs per month. FMS received offers for roles in domains like consulting, finance, IT, Product Management, Operations, General Management, Sales, and Marketing. Most of the students received offers in their domain of interest. Companies that offered roles include BCG, Bain, McKinsey, Amazon, Accenture Strategy, Adani group, Relian, TAS, TATA steel, TATA Play, RPG, Zensar Technologies, HUL, ITC, Asian Paints, Byjus, Uber, OfBusiness, Nestle, etc. The highest stipend was Rs.4,40,000/- for two months, the Average stipend was Rs.3,06,000/- per two months and the median stipend of Rs.3,00,000/- per two months was recorded for the year 2022-23.
