LIT Ph.D. Microbiology Admission 2026
Ph.D Microbiology at LIT Nagpur follows a merit-based admission process conducted through an entrance examination and interview. The university conducts Ph.D admissions twice a year in July and January. Admissions are conducted at the departmental level with a transparent merit system. Eligibility Criteria
- Master of Science (M.Sc) degree in Microbiology or related subject with minimum Second Class from a recognized university
- Minimum 45% marks in the qualifying M.Sc examination (40% for SC/ST/OBC/VJ/NT/EWS candidates)
- GATE/UGC-NET (including JRF)/CSIR-UGC SET (including JRF)/DST-Inspire qualified candidates are exempted from entrance examination
- Valid migration certificate for candidates from universities outside Maharashtra
- Character certificate from the previous institution
- No Objection Certificate from employer (for employed candidates)
Admission Process
- Apply online on the LIT University Ph.D admission portal (https://mis.litu.edu.in/litu_phd/)
- Submit application form with necessary documents before the deadline
- Appear for Ph.D Entrance Examination (Paper I: General Aptitude Test, Paper II: Subject Specific Test)
- Candidates qualifying both papers are called for interview
- Merit list is prepared based on entrance examination and interview performance
- Selected candidates complete admission formalities and fee payment
- Guide allocation is done by the respective School Research Committee
- Provisional registration is issued after completion of admission process
Mandatory Coursework:
All Ph.D candidates must complete mandatory pre-Ph.D coursework within two years of provisional registration. This includes:
- One M.Sc level theory course of minimum 4 credits
- Additional coursework of minimum 4 credits covering research methodology, quantitative methods, and computer applications
- Seminar presentation of 4 credits
- Minimum CGPA of 6.0 required in coursework
- Failure to complete coursework within two years results in cancellation of registration
Research and Thesis Submission:
- Minimum 2 years of research work required before thesis submission
- Candidates must publish at least 2 research papers in peer-reviewed SCI/SCOPUS international journals with Impact Factor greater than 1
- Thesis submission requires 8 copies of synopsis and 4 copies of thesis
- Thesis is evaluated by external examiners appointed through online system
- Open defense (viva-voce) is conducted after favorable evaluation reports
- Maximum registration period is 8 years (6 years + 2 extensions of 12 months each)
