To get admission in lateral entry, the candidates must have a 3-year diploma in engineering or a B.Sc. from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks and are eligible to apply. Admissions are mostly on the basis of rank of the candidate in the concerned entrance tests, i.e., the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) or other entrance tests. Also, if a student is offered a job and later becomes eligible for a "Dream Offer", meaning one that pays more than two times the compensation package of the original one, they can accept the better-paying job. Such provisions are made to maintain equity in the placement process while respecting students' desires for occupations closely related to their area of study or better-paying ones.
