GBPIET M.Tech FAQs
Ques. Which GATE paper should I appear in for different M.Tech specializations at GBPIET?
Ans. The required GATE paper depends on the chosen specialization. CSE requires the CS paper, ECE and Digital System and Signal Processing require EC, Power System Engineering requires EE, Production and Thermal Engineering require ME (or PI for Production), Environmental Geotechnology and Infrastructure Engineering require CE, and Biotechnology requires BT. All GATE-qualified admitted students are eligible for the AICTE PG GATE Scholarship regardless of the specialization selected.
Ques. Does every M.Tech at GBPIET go through UK Tech Counselling or do some use a separate process?
Ans. Eight of the nine M.Tech specializations at GBPIET route through UK Tech Counselling (uktech.ac.in) for seat allotment based on GATE merit. M.Tech Infrastructure Engineering is the exception and uses direct college counselling at gbpiet.ac.in. Candidates applying for Infrastructure Engineering should track the official GBPIET website for application dates rather than relying on the UK Tech Counselling portal.
Ques. How much do I actually pay at the time of joining GBPIET after seat allotment through counselling?
Ans. At the time of seat acceptance on UK Tech Counselling, candidates pay INR 10,000 as the counselling fee. The remaining INR 33,480 (completing the first semester fee of INR 43,480) is paid at GBPIET through SBI iCollect during document verification. Hostel accommodation, if opted, costs an additional INR 2,480 per semester and mess advance of INR 16,000 per semester is paid separately.
Ques. Is the AICTE PG GATE Scholarship automatically given or does a student need to apply separately?
Ans. The AICTE PG GATE Scholarship is not automatic. Students must apply through the AICTE scholarship portal (aicte-india.org) after admission by submitting the GATE scorecard, admission confirmation, and bank details. The INR 12,400 monthly stipend is disbursed directly to the student’s bank account after institutional and AICTE verification. Students should apply within the scholarship window notified by AICTE to avoid missing disbursements for the first semester.
Ques. Can candidates from states other than Uttarakhand get admission to M.Tech at GBPIET?
Ans. Yes, candidates from outside Uttarakhand can apply under the All-India Quota seats available through UK Tech Counselling. The majority of seats are reserved under the Uttarakhand domicile quota. Candidates should check the exact state versus All-India quota breakdown for each specialization in the official UK Tech Counselling notification at uktech.ac.in before applying.
Ques. Why is the M.Tech Infrastructure Engineering fee at GBPIET lower than other specializations?
Ans. M.Tech Infrastructure Engineering carries a total fee of INR 86,960 (INR 43,480 per academic year), while all other eight M.Tech specializations have a total fee of INR 1,73,920 (INR 43,480 per semester over four semesters). The fee structure also differs in that Infrastructure Engineering uses a direct college admission process at gbpiet.ac.in rather than UK Tech Counselling. Candidates should verify the current fee structure on the official GBPIET website before applying.
