- The University of Alberta offers a Doctor of Dental Surgery for a duration of 4 years or 5 terms program.
- It is an on-campus program offered on a full-time basis only.
- A Doctor of Dental Surgery degree will give students the education and expertise required to practice dentistry.
- Dentistry is a challenging and rewarding profession within the health care field, offering a balanced lifestyle and the opportunity to have a true impact on patient’s quality of life.
- The 1st and 2nd years of the program are comprised of an integrated curriculum, studying anatomical, physiologic, and health systems, including:
- Infection, Immunity, and Inflammation
- Endocrine System and Cardiovascular
- Pulmonary and Renal Systems
- Gastroenterology and Nutrition
- Musculoskeletal System
- Neurosciences and Oncology
- The first two years of the program also includes the study of Oral Biology, Dental Anatomy, Oral Pathology, and an introduction to the pre-clinical practice of dentistry.
- The 3rd and 4th years of the program are comprised of lectures, laboratories, seminars, and clinical practice.
- Students can apply for various types of scholarships like Alberta Blue Cross Scholarship in Dentistry, Alberta Dental Association and College Awards, Albert Bodnarchuk Award in Dentistry, etc.
- The Doctor of Dental Surgery program is accredited through the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada.
- The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta provides opportunities to the students to involved in the community and gain experience working with non-profit organizations.

- Transcripts: Submit copies of official transcripts from post-secondary institutions attended in PDF format.
- Degree Certificate: It provides proof of degree completion and must be an original copy issued by the institution with an official stamp or seal.
- Medical Testing and Immunization Requirements: Students must have immunization records that are due at the time when admission is confirmed.
- Proof of Residency Status: Because residency status determines the competitive pool in which students are ranked, students may be required to present proof of residency status.
- Police Information Checks: Students should be aware that a clear Police Information Check (PIC) is required as a condition of admission and that any criminal charges pending must be declared.
- Personal Interview: Students have to give an interview to get admission in this program.
- Students have to submit the results from the Canadian Dental Aptitude Test.
