- UBC is internationally recognised as a world-class university and is ranked among the top 40 universities in the world.
- UBC Okanagan campus is very beautiful and picturesque.
- The small class sizes in UBCO provide students with an opportunity to connect with professors.
Dislikes
- Because the Vancouver campus is more well-known than the Okanagan campus, the latter can get overlooked or overshadowed by the public and employers.
- The location of the Okanagan campus is slightly inaccessible since it is not in a metropolitan (or big) city like Vancouver.
Course Curriculum
- Since I am an English major, much of my studies is influenced by current societal discourses. UBC and its professors take great care to keep course syllabi updated and relevant. There is always a wide range of course topics offered for every major, and a student is always encouraged to choose those that they like instead of having a set, mandatory course list.
- All of the courses are also designed with the goal of providing research experience (such as a thesis, in my case) or directions towards possible research interests and opportunities (such as field work projects in the Sciences). There are also no set time tables for every student since the choice of courses will create different schedules for different students.
- Many courses have different sections at different hours of the day so that students can choose the one that is more convenient for them. Class sizes are also great at UBC, particularly in the Okanagan campus. Owing to a smaller campus size, first-year classes can be as big as 400 students and then go as low as 4 students in the fourth year and above.
Fees
- International students have a higher tuition cost compared to domestic students. Fees generally vary from degree to degree; the more specialised it is, the higher the cost. Tuition does not include other costs such as housing, books, library, transit, recreation, etc. Currently, the tuition fee for BA and BSc is around CAD 51000 per year (8 months: September to April). For MA, it is around CAD 9600 (12 months: September to August).
- There are several ways to receive scholarships, too. UBC has an extensive list of who can apply for which scholarship, and these can prove useful for students who are seeking financial support from their academic institution. There are also ways to receive a scholarship during undergraduate and graduate studies.

- Ample opportunities to engage oneself.

Dislikes
- Expenses and tuition. Tuition is very high.
- Grading schemes and department set averages.
- Hard to make friends easily in general.
Securing a job is further difficult; full-time is almost very difficult. It is rare to find a job within the first 6 months of graduating. The average salary range is 50-90k. Students find jobs by networking, with the highest salary of 150k and the lowest at 40k

- The teaching staff, is really helpful and friendly.

- Housing crisis, the long waiting list for on-campus housing.
- Gyms can be crowded sometimes.

Per year is around 34 lacs. So my program is for 4 years.

- The beautiful campus, the people, opportunities, and the unique college experience. UBC was a very fast-forward institution that cared and prepared their students for a bright future.

- The tuition fee is exceedingly too expensive for international students, it’s impossible to live on campus due to the high cost of living and expensive rent.

- The campus! And my course. Fun fact: UBC has been a film spot for many movies. So you can just imagine how beautiful the campus is.
- There are specific people who help international students as well.

- Specific to my course I have no complaints. But my friends in other courses wish that their course (data science) was more application based rather than theoretical. So maybe I don't like the fact that some courses are not application oriented.
Course Curriculum
The course is exceptionally updated with the current research that is happening in my field. As my program is course based and not research based, I wasn't given any research experience. As the BCBA certification requires us to work 2000 hours under supervision before we give the certificate exam, the program is designed such that students can work with children in the morning and attend classes in the evening. Passing the graduate program has nothing to do with the completion of 2000 hours.
Fees
Tuition Fee: $15,700 per year and this is for international students.
Likes
- I love the campus, the professors, the counseling services, and the students.
- The student council also seems to actually care about others, so that’s always a bonus.
- The professors are understanding yet challenging, which is a great balance.
Dislikes
- I wish the courses were more interesting or out-of-the-box.
- I would also appreciate a decrease in various fees, as most international students do.
- I also wish UBC was more attentive towards helping socially awkward/anxious students socialize, especially those who do not get on-campus housing first year.
Course Curriculum
The syllabus and curriculum is updated and well-reflective of the mindset and needs of a 21st-century student’s: open-mindedness, problem-solving, critical thinking, strategic, etc. UBC and its professors challenge you to challenge them- dig deep and debate (unless specified otherwise). Not to mention, UBC has amazing programs and opportunities for research/work experience. The university itself has jobs that pay and give you valuable academic experience and leadership qualities, such as the newsletter club, as well CO-OP programs, which I highly recommend as they can secure you a full-time position at a decent company even before you graduate, which happened to my older brother when he did a great job at his CO-OP position for a start-up in Vancouver, in computer science.

For 5 courses, plus other university fees, it comes to about almost C$23,000 (Canadian dollars) per semester. The fees for dorms, cafeteria use, gym membership (optional), etc. are not included here.

- I liked the place along with the university, so that was a big factor
- The campus facilities and resources also contribute to a fulfilling college experience, providing ample opportunities for research, collaboration, and community engagement. Overall, I value the sense of belonging and the rich learning experiences. it can be overwhelming at first but you find your path in your own time.

- while the campus community is generally supportive, I've noticed occasional instances where issues related to diversity and inclusion could be addressed more proactively.

- UBC is the top most ranked university in Canada. I got offer letters from both universities i.e. York University and UBC as well but I choose UBC over York due to its top ranking.
- Immense resources for everything, UBC has so many opportunities even during the degree they have a number of jobs for working on-campus and it is ranked amongst the top universities in Canada. The faculty is so good and it is indeed a pleasure to connect with all of them.
- The professors allow you to think innovatively and help their best to make your concepts clear. The studying pattern is so different from my home country, at first I was apprehensive about it but after giving my first exam at UBC I realized that their focus is to make you understand the concept, and the exams are application based so you do not need to cram everything and spill it out in the exams, usually, they teach you how to apply the rule or the law laid down by the judges in a scenario and ask you your opinion.
Dislikes
- There is nothing I dislike about UBC. I can say that the campus is so huge that you need more time than a year to explore it. UBC has so and fun activities and events that it makes it really hard to utilize and attend all of them in that one year along with your studies and part-time.
Course Curriculum
My course is an NCA-recognized course. With this course, I do not need to give any NCA exam separately and after finishing this course I just need to send my transcripts to NCA.
Fees
So I paid the entire tuition fee in 2022 and it was around 1247 per credit, it is a 30 credits course, so I paid about 37000 CAD however, at the end of my course I was asked to pay 2100 CAD more as every year in May UBC increases its fee. So, the courses I took in my last semester in 2023 were charged as per the revised rate so there was a difference of 2100 CAD, which I paid recently.

- What truly sets my university apart and makes it special to me is its small, tight-knit community. Unlike UBC Vancouver's sprawling campus, our university fosters a close and intimate environment that allows for meaningful connections and personalized experiences.
Dislikes
- Firstly, the lack of vibrant events and social events on campus has left me yearning for a more engaging atmosphere that fosters student connections and memorable experiences.
- Secondly, it is disheartening to see some professors receiving consistently poor reviews from students yet remaining in their positions without any discernible improvement. This raises concerns about the university's commitment to maintaining a high standard of teaching and ensuring student satisfaction.
- Additionally, the inadequacy of transit facilities poses a significant inconvenience for students, making commuting to and from the campus a challenging aspect of university life.
Course Curriculum
In my opinion, the courses being taught are outdated and irrelevant in today's world. The course curriculum is along the same wavelength as it was 50 years ago. While there are some business trips and research experience, it is not as much as it should be.
