- UBC is the top most ranked university in Canada. I got offer letters from both universities i.e. York University and UBC as well but I choose UBC over York due to its top ranking.
- Immense resources for everything, UBC has so many opportunities even during the degree they have a number of jobs for working on-campus and it is ranked amongst the top universities in Canada. The faculty is so good and it is indeed a pleasure to connect with all of them.
- The professors allow you to think innovatively and help their best to make your concepts clear. The studying pattern is so different from my home country, at first I was apprehensive about it but after giving my first exam at UBC I realized that their focus is to make you understand the concept, and the exams are application based so you do not need to cram everything and spill it out in the exams, usually, they teach you how to apply the rule or the law laid down by the judges in a scenario and ask you your opinion.
Dislikes
- There is nothing I dislike about UBC. I can say that the campus is so huge that you need more time than a year to explore it. UBC has so and fun activities and events that it makes it really hard to utilize and attend all of them in that one year along with your studies and part-time.
Required Exams for Admission
The course duration was really good, however, there is no on-campus placement. The faculty and academics are commendable and overall my experience with UBC has been memorable. It was a great opportunity to study with such a good faculty and get so much exposure. To conclude, I would say to study abroad the first research should be done about the country you want to move to, does it has job opportunities or not then you need to hunt the college or university. Getting into UBC was a great thing however the moment I would get a job in my legal field then I would be on cloud nine.
Course Curriculum
My course is an NCA-recognized course. With this course, I do not need to give any NCA exam separately and after finishing this course I just need to send my transcripts to NCA.
Faculty
So I would mention Professor Robert Russo, I studied Administrative law and I did Directed Research under his mentorship, I would say he is a very supportive and knowledgeable professor, he helped me throughout my research work and he is always updated with the legal updates.
Campus Life
Campus life is really good as I mentioned there are so many events for students to interact and connect. There are a lot extra curricular activities as well the only challenge is to spare time for all of that with your studies.
Placement
I am looking for jobs, no doubt finding a job is the most challenging part. UBC has a career service office that helps you with the resources to prepare your application and interviews.
Accommodation
There was on-campus housing available. I would recommend opting for on-campus housing at least in your first term. It is a myth that it is expensive however with the increasing rent rates in Vancouver, BC it costs you the same. Moreover, if you go off-campus housing then you have to see the traveling time also.
Exams
My score in academic IELTS was overall 7 Listening: 7.5 Reading: 7 Writing: 7 Speaking: 7 I did submit my CV and SOP For courses like master's, I believe usually preference is given to those applicants who have some work experience so that was mentioned in my CV along with my role and responsibilities which I performed during my work tenure. And for SOP it should be so convincing and expressive that it clearly states the reason of your interest in that course and how it is gonna be beneficial for you. I did not have any interview, it was just my application submission.
Fees
So I paid the entire tuition fee in 2022 and it was around 1247 per credit, it is a 30 credits course, so I paid about 37000 CAD however, at the end of my course I was asked to pay 2100 CAD more as every year in May UBC increases its fee. So, the courses I took in my last semester in 2023 were charged as per the revised rate so there was a difference of 2100 CAD, which I paid recently.
