McGill University offers various scholarships to international students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. For new undergraduate students, there are two main types of entrance scholarships: a one-year award of CAD 3,000 / INR 2 Lakhs and major scholarships that range from CAD 3,000-10,000 / INR 2-6.7 Lakhs. To qualify, students generally need strong academic skills, such as about 97%, and must meet leadership criteria. No separate application is needed for the one-year scholarship, but major scholarships require an additional application. Current undergraduate students can also receive in-course scholarships based on their academic performance during their studies. These awards are decided by individual faculties and are automatically considered for eligible students.

Graduate students can apply for scholarships like the McCall MacBain Scholarship, Cynthia Weston Fellowship in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, and others. They offer amounts in the range of CAD 20,000-21,000 / INR 13.4-14.1 Lakhs. To be eligible for graduate scholarships, students require high academic scores. McGill University also offers scholarships for the MBA program, like the Adam Dinkes MBA Leadership Award, Sandhya and Swati Sharma MBA Leadership Award, and others, which offers the amount in the range of CAD 10,000-40,000 / INR 6.7-26 Lakhs. • I live off campus as it’s cheap, and I got it via a senior I was talking to on LinkedIn, and there are groups for housing as well on WhatsApp and Instagram.

  • Yes, I was a DAAD KOSPIE fellow. I am not sure about the criteria now but at that time it was pointer-based, 8.5 and above, please refer the website for updated criteria.
  • I was receiving 850 euros a month for the seven-month duration.
  • Yes, a few people got that award whom I personally know.
  • Not sure of the number but those scholarships are a bit scarce, so you need to have good academic credentials.

  • I went through an agency called Studentenwerk; I would recommend this, as it is cheap and especially for international students.
  • For me the monthly rent was around 300 euros a month back in 2022 but it must have increased; you can expect around 600 euros for a good studio in hanover.
  • The thing with accommodation is, it is very difficult to get with studentenwerk. So the suggestion is to book as early as possible after you receive the confirmation of your admission.
  • It is not that far; if you are based on the main campus, you can reach it in 2-3 mins by tram/bus but if you are based in mechanical engineering, it will take you 15-20 mins to reach from the city centre. Another option is to have an accommodation near Mechanical engineering campus, depending on your liking.

  • For finding accommodation, it is mostly through friends, which is the most trustworthy, as international students are more prone to SCAMS. Be aware of it!. Some other platforms are facebook marketplace, Kjiji.
  • But make sure you sign the proper document and read the agreement terms and conditions. Some landlords create an issue, especially for those of Asian origin.

I received funding from my supervisor and the department. I also received the MITACS Globalink Graduate Fellowship valued at $15000. Only MITACS Globalink Research Internship alumni are eligible to apply for the scholarship.

The overall experience is pretty good. The campus has a lot of racial diversity and you meet people from different cultures and ethnicities. We have esteemed faculty and research professionals too. The campus has decent infrastructure with good wifi. The food options are limited on campus but we have good restaurants and fast food outlets nearby.

Law fac is something else at McGill University: Superb University culture, chill atrium with a Piano and ping pong table, massive networking opportunities, very-very friendly students (much better than anywhere else in Canada - based on the experience of students who were previously in UBC and UfT), and opportunity to learn French and experience French culture. Located in Montreal, a city like no other. The only drawback is that finding part-time jobs without french can be difficult. Also, NCA students will have to make more efforts than UfT or UBC students owing to location constraints. Remember, if you are in trouble, seek help and there will be some help around every corner. McGill Law is good at that.

McGill University, being one of the premier research institutes of the country has truly lived up to its expectations as it has given me a great platform to start my research career with its strong research abilities and a great international outlook. I'm really glad that I took this decision to pursue my masters from this university and looking forward to graduate soon.
